He played for the Steelers last year, and played well. Definitely some upside here, but I would guess we are out of the sweepstakes for the Pats LT.
Maybe not. He played RT for the Steelers. (unless we are projecting him to the left side)

According to Pro Football Focus, Hubbard was functional in pass protection with a 74.0 grade. Where he really struggled was in run blocking finishing with just a 47.4 overall grade. Frankly, that should suit the Broncos just fine as it is the pass rush from the right tackle position that has hurt this offense.
At 6’4” and 286 pounds, he is a bit undersized, which is why he has probably struggled in run blocking. His speed, however, is why he has functioned well in pass protection. The Broncos should definitely pursue him in free agency at the right price.

This sounds far more like an upgrade from Shon Coleman. Something we need far more badly than some fans are willing to admit. While we may not have privy to Joe Thomas future plans for obvious reasons, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Browns do and will act accordingly. IMO we just upgraded our weakest position on the OL, our RT.
The contract strongly indicates this is not LT money.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Started 10 games last year (at tackle AND guard) and is very well-known to new #Browns OC Todd Haley. Good for him.
I forgot the fact that Haley knows him.

Hahahahahahhahaha, I did too until you mentioned it. You know, I can get on board with this signing a lot more now.
" Now here you are running these dirty old streets tattoo on your neck fake gold on your teeth, got the hood here snowed but you can't fool me, we both know who you are"
Competition is always good. Hubbard can definitely play well in Haley's system, so I think that Coleman has to step it up.

Seems like a RT replacement. Coleman to the bench. Stephenson as a backup T as well.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
I saw Joe on Mike & Mike one morning and he said his wife has been trying to talk him into retiring for several years. His chronic knee and back pain along with some memory issues being the main reasons.
I don't know about this O Line grading system but as a Steeler fan I'll say that this is an excellent sign by Cleveland. Hubbard has bailed Pittsburgh out so many times when guys go down and he comes in and starts 3 games here and 4 games there. He played multiple positions on the line and was excellent the last two years. Steady as a rock.

Chris Hubbard, offensive lineman
The Cleveland Browns agreed to sign offensive lineman Chris Hubbard, who played the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here’s a closer look at the signing:
Grade: B. This seems like a solid addition that has the earmarks of Todd Haley’s influence. Hubbard played well as Pittsburgh’s sixth offensive lineman and appears to be a player who deserves a chance to start full-time. It’s tough to judge what his signing means about Joe Thomas’ future, though. Hubbard has mainly played right tackle -- he has 14 career starts at the position, 10 last season with Marcus Gilbert injured or suspended -- but he has versatility to play different spots on the line. The Browns also will add ex-Broncos offensive lineman Donald Stephenson, primarily as a depth player.
What it means: The Browns did not believe they had a replacement on the roster if Thomas decides to retire, but Hubbard seems primarily to be a right tackle. If the Browns believe Shon Coleman can move from right to left -- something Thomas has said he believes Coleman can do -- then Hubbard could play the right side and Coleman the left. That’s if Thomas retires. If Thomas plays, Hubbard would figure to be the starter at right tackle. Thomas has said his decision would come down to his health, and he would let the team know before free agency. Officially, the free agent signing period starts Wednesday at 4 p.m.
What’s the risk: The Browns believe they have a player on the rise. Hubbard earned praised from Steelers coach Mike Tomlin for his play when Gilbert was out last season, and Pittsburgh liked the way he handled moving around and filling in. Haley would know him well; he was the Steelers' offensive coordinator the four seasons Hubbard was with the team. Hubbard is an undrafted free aget who can play inside as well as outside. He seems like a positive addition, without huge risk.

j/c Not sure why many are down on Shon Coleman. I watched him plenty at Auburn, he was an above avg. LT. Unfortunately, he had to battle leukemia in 2011-12 before becoming a starter for 2015 season. Then he had to battle back from a knee injury at end of 2015 season, limiting him from the combine in 2016. He was still ranked the eighth best offensive linemen that year.
The dude can ball, give him time, this could be his break out season. Not a time to give up on another third year player. He did make it through the complete 2017 season as starter and did improve by the end. If he cleans up the holding penalties, he would have been considered to have a good year.
I think Coleman played decently not good-very good by any means. Its highly magnified when you have to play alongside Pro Bowl or near Pro Bowl caliber players like Joe Thomas, Joel Bitinio, Zeitler...Hoping Coleman improves with the competition signings we inked.
I can't believe we gave a RT who is an average pass blocker and a terrible run blocker a contract worth $7.5 mill a year. We just made this dude the 5th highest paid RT in the league and he doesn't even grade out to average according to PFF.
I'd assume he could become our LT. Even if Joe plays this year he's not going to play the next 5 years. Coleman wasn't terrible, but Hubbard plays over him if Joe remains another season.

Hubbard seems to be a RT who can fill in at the other spots in a pinch. That's valuable.
Solder has to be our target once JT says he's out today. I hope that's what Solder is waiting for ..
