Why would Solder care if he played 1-2 years at RT if he was getting LT money?

That's what I don't get. Why would he care. He's played RT before. The money is the money, and that's all that counts.

Pride. Besides, why would he come here to play RT, when he can play LT elsewhere. I would guess that the money's not that different.

Joe is supposed to make his decision known tomorrow. I suspect that one of 2 things will happen; he will return, or we will announce that we have agreed to terms with Solder.

You don't pay a RT, LT money. That's not how any of this works.

It may be when you have an obscene amount of cap space.

For one year? Why not?

It's not your money? And if it's for the overall good of the team, it might just make sense.

Just said hello to Joe Thomas. Didn’t get a chance to talk. Hopefully we’ll learn something tonight.

It simply wouldn't make any sense to me. Solder is simply the best option at the moment. He isn't a great LT nor is there really a clear cut answer in this years draft. If Joe is going to be here for another year there's simply no need to make a move now. Solder is the kind of player you can get next year.

I can see the sense in it if Joe is leaving now. We would kind of be in a pinch to address the position right away. But if I knew I had another season to address the position next year I would avoid signing Solder to a FA contract like the plague. lol

Then that, in a Poirot (apologies if you don't know the Belgian sleuth, replace with Columbo ), means we need a LT.

I have a question for all of you. What would you hate more

1) Joe not coming back
2) Joe coming back and not being Joe

I'd rather 1) all day and every day. Dude has been the lone bright spot in a decade of awfulness. I don't want him sinking to our level. He deserves better.

I would only want Joe back if he feels it's the best move for him and his family. I honestly don't believe he would come back unless he felt that he had the ability to play at his best.

All I want is for when Joe goes, for Joe to be fully ready to go.
That's all that matters. He's given so much for so long to this team, I could not care less if he wanted to stay but wasn't his old self. He's earned that.

It seems like, after today's signings, the team might not know what Joe Thomas is doing. He seems to be actually conflicted about what he wants to do. The team looks like they are protecting themselves if he retires.

I don't see anything about todays signings having anything to do with Joe. We signed a RT and some FA depth.

LOL He is a beat reporter. Hopefully he knows where Joe will be, and will get to talk to him.

Joe should have already decided on his future. He is putting himself above the team. My guess is he retires.

My guess is, he and the team both know what he is going to do and the silence is because some how it’s benefiting the team.

What makes you think the team doesn't already know and it simply hasn't been announced to the public yet? Let's not jump to conclusions.

I do not think the team knows. What is the purpose of telling the team and not the fans? Maybe for some draft strategy, but once free agency hits and the way the Browns are going after Nate Solder, it seems like a foregone conclusion he retires.

A person is allowed to be conflicted as to what they should do with their future.

What makes you think the Browns are going hard after Solder? I've heard fans talk about him in case Joe retires but I haven't heard any buzz about the Browns actively pursuing him.

And as far as telling the team and not the fans. I'm not sure telling the fans is a pressing issue or something that is owed to us. As long as the team knows going into tomorrow, I think that's the only thing that's important.

Seems to me that if you have months and months to ponder your future, then you should have some sort of decision about it, especially when it impacts your employer and teammates. He cannot hold the team hostage for too long, and time is up.

And nobody is even sure he's doing that.

Not when the team has to make important, and in this case, a solitary decision to replace him, or not. It's not like we let Solder get away if Joe retires, and we have another option to effectively replace him.

No, there's something called having class and respect for your team.

It's a pivotal time for the team right now, and decisions need to be made that affect next season.

I'm not saying Joe is dogging the team, he may have already told them what he wants to do. And it's a strategy game.

I disagree with that.

As some have said, if he has indeed retired, maybe we delay the announcement for a while. That could impact what a player and agent might ask for if they know we don't have a LT.

But, if he is just undecided, that messes with my team. He doesn't have the right to do that, I don't care who he is.

not what i saw.. could be wrong but coleman was getting help until joe went down.. the help shift to drango.. then colemans play went down... not that coleman cant get better... just what i saw...

I agree...as there is no other feasible options out there.

We don't agree to sign a LT if we know Joe is coming back.

Because if it’s public knowledge then other teams have more leverage in negotiations.

That makes sense as well.

I was just trying to go with the folks sticking up for Joe that not announcing this could somehow help the team.

It would be a bad thing for agents/players to feel the Browns are desperate for a LT. Kinda gives the all the leverage.
