I think Coleman can play the position.

As Browns fans, no matter who we get to play the position, we are going to have to adjust our expectations.

Joe is up there with the GOATs. They don't come along all that often.

Shon Coleman isn't a LT in the NFL mac. He was a very poor RT much less LT. We just signed his replacement.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

He's pretty athletic though. Maybe he can be as poor a LT as he was a RT. lol

Honestly, I didn't think Coleman was that bad of a RT. I just saw him as very raw. I think he's got room for growth (unlike a bad player with no room for growth). Even if we don't draft a LT, i'm interested in some competition at camp between him and Drango. Maybe this Hubbard guy too. Both tackle spots are open

I'm just trying to do the math here. I don't believe they paid out a 38 million dollar contract for Colemans back up. Something about that makes zero sense to me.

He's coming in to be a starting Tackle I'd assume. Maybe he's competing for Left and Right. And Drango is competing for Left and Right. And Coleman is competing for Left and Right?

One of Coleman or Drango will be left out. They're both still on rookie deals, so it's not the end of the world if one of the two sits the bench

That would be quite a projection since he's a RT. He was signed to RT money. I haven' seen any indication that either Hubbard or Coleman have the physical attributes to play LT in the NFL.

j/c....

Interesting stat.

Sports Info Solutions
@SportsInfo_SIS
Browns RT Chris Hubbard was a key blocker at the point of attack on 83 runs in 2017.

His RB only cutback or bounced to a different gap on 17 of those runs,

That's a 20.5% Bounce Rate, 3rd-best in the NFL

(among 64 T with 200+ run snaps)

Fair deal. Coleman and Roderick certainly need more time to develop into NFL tackles.

I am ASSuming that Hubbard was brought here to shore up our LT position he will have to compete with Drango who I thought did a decent job last year. He is not big enough to man the RT position if you ask me.

But Pass blocking is something not easily taught. Run Blocking is easier taught. Hope this kid spends time in our conditioning program and adds 20 pounds of muscle! Devalve did it. So can he.

Again I love this kid in the draft raw...big naturally strong but amazingly quick for his size and athletic.

I think the plan is to move Coleman to LT (where he played in college) and Hubbard becomes the RT which is where he played for the Squealers last year.

Why would you think that Tab? He's a RT and we needed one.

You may be right about Coleman, he may not be up to the task. But he was essentially a rookie last year and he played like one. Now he has to defend his position. I expect he will be better this year, the question is will it be enough. I think the plan is to bring in Hubbard and Stephenson, have them compete with those already on the team, and see who wins the LT and RT positions.

Hopefully he learns to love run-blocking.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

So Hubbard's contract is very team friendly:

Quote:
Another fantastically team-friendly deal for Browns with Chris Hubbard.. it's essentially a one-year contract with a series of team options. Only $3.2M is guaranteed after 2018. So basically, he's the RT until he loses the job, at which point he gets cut.

https://twitter.com/Ryan_McCrystal/status/974368672989917184

Quote:
Really important note on the Hubbard contract: it was originally reported as $18M guaranteed, but that includes his 2019 salary which only becomes guaranteed at start of 2019 league year. So if he's a bust, he gets cut next offseason and never sees that "guaranteed" money

https://twitter.com/Ryan_McCrystal/status/974368672989917184

Most of these new contracts are really one or two year deals, which is important because we will need to get out of them to re-sign the guys from the 2016, 2017, and 2018 drafts.

We will need to get out of them only if they don't work out.

Either way. Being able to get out of the contracts will be necessary.

Only if they suck. Otherwise we have to figure out how to keep them in their contracts.

Agreed. But if they don't/won't restructure we can release them with little to no dead money. That is very smart.

This contract is structured to make him very easy to cut or trade.
