with all these moves in FA it's quite evident that Dorsey is ready to prime the franchise for a win now culture
is he the 1st GM to have that mindset
or does Butch Davis count ?
in any event it's starting to look like the Browns are shaping up.to have a competitive NFL roster

I'd say he's in both rebuild (what choice does he have?) and win now mode.

And I might add, he's the ONLY GM we've had since the return. The rest were poor excuses for the title.

That would be grading the results, not the approach.

I saw an article a couple days ago that basically said Sashi deserved some credit for creating the cap space and the draft capital for the Browns to pull off these moves..

If I'm not mistaken, we had cap space and draft capital last year too and all he did was keep moving back, taking lesser players, not aggressively going after anybody good in FA.. just kicking the can down the road...

But at least we passed on Carson Wentz so we could have "draft capital"....

IMO, every GM better have that approach.

This team was stripped and a basic foundation of young players were acquired.A OL was assembled, and a Dline was being formed. Now is the time. We have always said to not waste money on FAs but to build from the draft and add essential FAs when the time was right.

IMO, the time is right. We have a nice core of young players many going into their third season, some their second. The team had very little veteran presence. Now is a great time to add some. Dorsey is adding good veteran players that are in their prime, you mix that with our young base with another year of experience, and tides will change.

I think this team is way better at this point than it was last season. The vets that were acquired are players that have experience and some have had good careers so far.

Many holes have been filled, making it possible to truly go BPA in this draft. We needed a decent QB, a FS, WR, CB, and back-up Oline. Seems to me that he has filled the main holes, and can now build a strong roster by adding QUALITY depth. All this was done by not giving up any of our five 1st and 2nd rounders. I expect this team to be not just competitive this coming year, but to actually be pretty good.

It's not his mindset, it's the plan.

Sashi was brought in to clear out the team and get us cap space while tanking the record and acquire some young talent.

Now Dorsey brought in to evaluate and sign talent.

Time will tell if it works, but so far it's on track.

Dorsey is signing players I never heard of, making moves, trading for players I think can actually impact us big time, like Landry... all and all, even though I'm NOT an expert on most guys we got recently, I like the moves and what I've read about the players we've got.

Still not going to let my excitement get to me, but if we come into regular season and win three games right off the bat - I might have a heart attack.

I don't know, but at this pace, he's likely to become the first GM in NFL history to burn 100mil in cap space, in a single offseason, for mostly average players.....

He's just upgrading and bringing some seasoned talent. I hope its not too much but like the Donaldson Contract that is a come into camp and make the team contract.

Not sure who this Hubbard kid is.

I just hope its not too much.

Unlike Butch...it was a one year shot and come 2002 we were 20 mil over the cap and had to break it all up. This go round we got the cap room. Not all will contribute and not all will be here when we need the space to sign 2nd contracts. We know we won't be offering Coleman WR a 2nd contract unless he turns it around and becomes a stud.

But Ogbah, Garret, Schofeld, Boughty all should be getting contracts sooner or later and several more.

most of these FA contracts will be over with or we cut them, those who turn out to be studs or solid players we will keep.

Don't forget we still got 5 stud impact draft picks coming up!

Butch Davis certainly counts. Especially since he was the last coach to get us to the play offs.

I believe John Dorsey is doing both; trying to win some games now yet building a solid foundation to become a yearly contender. I think he realizes how important it is for this franchise and it's fans to develop a winning culture and attitude and stop the negative mindset that has been prevalent for so long. Trying to do that while also trying to change the national and league wide perception of the Browns is no easy task. I feel he's the right man for the job and as a longtime Browns fan I wish him the best. It won't be easy.

Phil Savage was the GM that led the Browns to their best record since the return 10-6.

He thought the Browns were very close and went hard to put the team over the top in 2008 and the team flopped.

I think he tried very hard to win.

The change of attitude towards urgency to put a winner on the field is refreshing.

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I definitely like what I'm seeing now.
I definitely think a competitive team will be on the grass.
That said, a shave of concern about the cap condition he left KC in.
I'm hoping he learned from past experiences.

No. Butch Davis went with a win now approach.

Farmer also went with a win now approach (unsuccessfully). Signing guys like, Donte Whitner, Dansby, Hawkins, Miles Austin, Ben Tate, Randy Starks, Tramon Williams, Brian Hartline, Dwayne Bowe.

Dorsey may be the first one with the a successful blueprint. Hopefully.

Dorsey Def. seems like he has a plan, probably a few things he wish went better like getting Solder, but I think Dorsey and the FO probably accounted for all possibilities and once draft rolls around we'll get a better idea. He's def. helped the team so far with savvy trades and substantial upgrades in positions of need. He seems the most competent we've had since return. Draft will be the key, but we are setup for some sustainable success once we fix the HC issue

I see it that we should have won 3-4 last year. With the improvements we should add another 4-5 to that.

Just replacing Kizer should give us 5 wins.

Now it's a matter of coaching them up.
