Look, I get that our secondary was trash and needs new talent... what I don't get is our top-performing CB from last year is the first one to go. If you're cutting people (which we first tried to do here) wouldn't you start with your worst and work your way up?
McCourty got cut (before he was traded), but Jamar Taylor is still on the team. That's the part I don't get.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

taylor. Stunk. Stank. Whichever. I thought McCourty was better. Lousy secondary.

According to today's Plain Dealer the Browns traded McCourty and their 2018 #219 for Pats 2018 #205. So we gained. Good trade for a guy we were going to release.

I have a feeling most people on this board may be right. He may have asked for a release. Assuming that is the case, the Browns get "something" out of it and the Patriots get a very cheap contract (after his 2017 season he was set to make quite a bit more in Free Agency).

Everyone is really upset about letting McCourty catch on somewhere else? Really? He was already being protected by scheme, and would be a year older. I consider it a good sign of respect for the guy...hey, unlikely you'll be seeing the field much, and no guarantee you even make the team, so go have a full offseason with the Pats (& fam).
As for Taylor still being here, maybe its the age, maybe they like his athleticism as a 4th CB. I mean, you cannot cut everyone that's been bad here in MARCH, we'd have half a roster. The chances he makes it in August aren't all that high, but you need competition for Wilson and the rookie(s).

Jamar Taylor excelled when he came here to "prove himself." He seemed to slack off last year... either he's still in the works to be released/traded, or he'll get a chance to prove himself once again and the CB competition will be good for him...and us. He's not overly expensive and we do have money... so....

Agreed.
Browns fans are just so durn snake-bitten. Hate guys that don't develop into All-Pros by year 2, and then terrified that anyone cut or traded will turn All-Pro. Look no further than the Colemans. Both are receiving more hate than they deserve. But watch people's tunes change when they move on. This franchised has not only damaged player careers, it is pretty clear it has damaged fan psyches, as well. I laugh so I don't cry.

People just don't get it. Nope and most of them never will. This has been buggin me for a few days now ... i couldn’t let it keep bothering me so here i am ... *L* ... U or your boy Pit need to ENLIGHTEN MY DUMB ASS ... What is it EXACTLY we DON’T GET ... Is it that even though our SECONDARY BLEW CHUNKS that McCourty played WAY WAY WAY WAY BETTER than Taylor yet for some inexplicable reason Taylor is still here and McCourty is not ... and it wasn’t even close .... is that what we don’t understand??? .. Is it that McCourty actually stuck up for himself and his teammates and SPOKE OUT AGAINST Hue and Dorsey who had both made MORONIC STATMENTS about their EMPLOYEES??? Gee ... i wonder why hes gone and Taylor’s still here ... sounds to me like WE GET IT just fine ... but thats just me ...

I doubt that Taylor makes the team. I suspect that we'll take 1 or 2 CB in the draft. Wilson will be back, after missing last year with injury.
The only guy in the CB room (those left from last year) who should feel at all safe, is Boudy-Calhoun. He makes the team, along with Carrie and Mitchell. Pencil in Wilson, (lightly) and that's 4 CB. We probably keep 6, and if we draft 2, then we're full up. Now Wilson is no sure thing .... but he is probably at least as likely to make the team as Taylor .... or any of the other bodies currently on the roster.

Not really. Just jumping to some early conclusions. The FA signing period just started this week. The draft hasn't happened yet. Yet people are already trying to judge early moves when we are far from the end of the process.
Maybe when all this is over and we start pre season it's worthy of discussion. Then we will actually know who will be and won't be on the roster. At this time, it seems you're trying to draw some kind of conclusion based on a very small indication of what the picture will actually look like.
Nobody knows what a painting will look like after the first few brush strokes. That sounds a lot like what's going on here to me.

This is cause he hurt lil Hue’s feelings along with Dorseys for CALLING THEM OUT FOR THEIR BS ... PS. I dont agree with your and your boy gm’s ORIGINAL ASSESMENT that Court stunk .. he didn’t stink IMO ... but even if he did ... the STENCH FROM TAYLOR was way way worse .. and u know it ..

I really don't want to reply to you anymore because you are so far gone, but Good God, man! Your hate for Hue has blinded you. Why in the hell would any coach and FO want a player that is bad-mouthing them? I knew as soon as McCourty opened his big mouth that he was gone. And he would have been gone on any team. You can't have guys on your team who don't buy into what you are doing. Get a freaking clue.

The two ends of the spectrum are hating Hue and defending him like a momma bear does her cub .... I’m pretty sure everyone knows what end of the spectrum your on ... .... and anyone that pays attending knows I am very anxious to see what Hue the HC can do as opposed to Hue the HC/OC .... i have zero hatred for hue as the head coach of the browns ... zero ... i am ROOTING for the man ... u have me confused with Peen ... *LOL* .... Go back to defending your 1 - 31 hero ...

Pffttt........you're full of crap. You have hijacked numerous threads w/your hatred of Hue. you have started several Fire Hue threads. You have started a thank you Sashi thread. You're easy to read.
But, w/all of that aside, you still dodged the question. Why in the hell would the Browns want to keep a poor, aging corner AFTER he dogged the GM and HC?
How in the hell can you defend that guy unless you just want to support him because you are giddy that he bashed guys you don't like?

I wouldn't call it bashing when talking about a guy who says we need real players and a guy who can't coach a team to a win.

What is it EXACTLY we DON’T GET ... That Mccourty is not a good NFL CB anymore. Many posters were boo hooing because we got rid of our best CB. We got rid of a guy who should not be starting in the NFL. Just because he was the best of a sad bunch does not make him good. Is it that even though our SECONDARY BLEW CHUNKS that McCourty played WAY WAY WAY WAY BETTER than Taylor yet for some inexplicable reason Taylor is still here and McCourty is not ... and it wasn’t even close .... is that what we don’t understand??? .. I don't believe Taylor will be around this season either, but I believe the Browns had more respect for Mccourty the man, than they do for Taylor.

PS. I dont agree with your and your boy gm’s ORIGINAL ASSESMENT that Court stunk .. he didn’t stink IMO ... but even if he did He did stink Pepe Le pew style. If Williams had not covered for our DB's with his defensive schemes, he would have been exposed even more.

1st off I agree that Court is not very good .. saying he wasn’t as bad as Taylor and that he didn’t STINK isn’t saying he’s good ... never been a fan of his ... i never said a word about that ... NOT MY POINT ... i only wanted some honesty ... i thought it was honesty I was after until reading what u just said ..... i needed clarification, not honesty ... thanks for claryifing ... If taylor is gone also .... getting rid of Court will make more sense and blow my theory all to chunks ... *L* ... i best be proven wrong yet again as Taylor is BEYOND HORRIFICK ... he made me long for Joe Haden ... ... They should respect Court for what he said ... IT WAS SPOT ON and someone needed to do it ... neither Hue nor Dorsey shoud have said what they did ... THERE HUMAN, THEY MAKE MISTAKES like all of us .. actually ... Hue has proven thats who he is ... anything to cover his ass ... he’ll run that bus over anyone as many times as he has too .. lets hope its not who Dorsey is also ....

So let me get this straight. The only reason you're upset is because Taylor isn't gone YET? So we have six months before the season starts and you're raising hell over something you have no way of knowing whether it will happen in that time span or not. Got it! lmao
Never mind. I figured it out. It's premature speculation.

CB Jason McCourty, who the Patriots acquired from the Browns for a R6 pick (they also got back a R7 pick) is currently PFF's sixth-highest-graded CB of 110 qualifying. https://twitter.com/ScottBarrettDFB/status/1047172268655296512
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

He was very highly rated the first 6 games of last year as well and he melted weeks 7-16.
