Sam Darnold is Daniel Jeremiah's top rated QB from the past three drafts:

He also alluded to the Browns pretty much deciding to take Darnold at 1 excluding some unforeseen event.

I've thought Darnold would be the guy for awhile now to be honest. He isn't my guy, but Dorsey has been rumored not to like Rosen, and Mayfield/Allen have too many concerns to take #1. Anyway, at least they would be taking their guy at 1 and no something stupid like a RB.

We shall see I guess.

There is a difference between strip sacks in the pocket and when it is tucked in and the QB becomes

Browns will conduct private workouts with Sam Darnold and Josh Allen this week in conjunction with their Pro Days
By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns will not only attend the Pro Days of Sam Darnold and Josh Allen this week, they'll also conduct private workouts with those players in conjunction with their pro days, league sources told cleveland.com.

They'll also conduct private workouts with UCLA's Josh Rosen and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield who had their Pro Days last Wednesday and Thursday when the Browns were busy overhauling their roster in free agency. Browns general manager John Dorsey and Hue Jackson skipped those workouts.

But they'll be in attendance at the Pro Days of Darnold Wednesday at USC and Allen Friday at Wyoming, which will be run by their QB trainer Jordan Palmer.

All four quarterbacks, who will also come to the Browns facility for pre-draft visits, are in the discussion for the Browns at No. 1 overall even though they've declared Tyrod Taylor their starter for 2018.

The Browns will be especially interested to see Darnold throw since he didn't do so at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. He's expected to throw despite heavy rains in the forecast and no indoor fieldhouse.

"(The Browns) asked why and I gave them a pretty good answer in my opinion,'' he told cleveland.com at the combine.
But he also said he had no regrets about that decision and that he was eager to display his skills at his Pro Day.

"(It will be) just kind of what they saw on film, that I'm accurate, I can throw on the run and I've got some zip on the ball,'' said Darnold. "So they're going to see all of it and I think they'll like what they see.''

Darnold, a strong candidate to go No. 1 to the Browns, acknowledged that they grilled him on his turnovers -- 22 interceptions and 21 fumbles including 14 lost in 22 starts at USC.

"I answered it to the best of my ability,'' he said. "Obviously turning the ball isn't something you want to do as a quarterback and ... I thought I answered it pretty well. I said 'I'm aware I turned the ball over a lot this last season and I'm doing a lot this offseason to clean it up.'''

The private workout will be a chance for the Browns to dig deep into Darnold's skill set and also put him on the board and determine his processing speed.

"We're going to always look at all of those things, as you know,'' Jackson said at the combine. "There's all kind of different variables that a guy's had to deal with, players leaving, systems, all kind of things. So we just have to sort through it all to understand it. And we will. We'll dig into that and understand why those things happened, and we'll give the player an opportunity to explain to us why they happened.''

Sam Darnold: NFL Draft 2018 video profile

As for the fumbles, Jackson said, "you've got to see where that's coming from. Is it because the guy's not protecting the ball? Maybe somebody's hitting him on the arm. Maybe it's his grip. There could be a lot of different reasons why those things are happening. But again, as you just mentioned, it's something we have to find out about.''

Darnold and Allen have both been training the past few months with Palmer, the younger brother of Carson Palmer. A former QB for the Redskins, Bengals, Jaguars, Bears, and Titans, Jordan Palmer was coached in Cincinnati by current Browns quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese and the two have remained close, meaning the Browns will have plenty of good background on Darnold and Allen.

Palmer has been working with Darnold on the turnovers and other issues, and with Allen on his footwork to improve his 56.2 completion percentage.

Allen's more stable base resulted in a sensational combine workout in which he dazzled scouts and coaches with his cannon arm.

Allen felt good about his Browns interview and his combine workout

"The ball comes off his hand with effort velocity,'' analyst David Carr said on NFL Network during the workout. "The guy can just rip it.''

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said, "This kid has a better arm than (Carson Wentz).''

"They're just asking how I'm working to fix it and (I'm) giving them the answer that I usually give to the other coaches and that's working with (QB trainer) Jordan Palmer, working on my base, my footwork, short front stride, all that jazz and hopefully I went out there today and showed the improvement."

Allen drew a big "ooh'' from inside Lucas Oil Stadium when fired a 70-yard pass at the combine

"That was crazy,'' he said. "Yeah, it was really cool. They had some fans inside the stadium this year and I'm happy that they were able to get out here and kind of see the talent that's going to be entering this NFL Draft. Just happy to be a part of it."
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said Allen "won the day,'' and Mike Mayock said he "takes my breath away with some of the throws he makes."

"Felt good," Allen said. "The first throw got away from me and I was thinking about that for a little bit, but not a lot of nerves. Just super anxious to get out there and start throwing the ball again. It had been a few days. I felt like I put the ball where it needed to be and I think I tested pretty well. I think an overall pretty good performance."

Allen hoped to improve even more on his footwork between the combine and his Pro Day.

"Obviously, I'm still going to be working in California, trying to improve and so when we get to Pro Day, hopefully we'll have a better showing there."

I saw this and (imo) this is the most realistic of any mock drafts I have seen to date.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/21/mock-d...-baker-mayfield

For me it's still very much a toss up for me as to my #1 choice at QB. Darnold and Mayfield are probably my top 2.

At 4 (or in the case of this mock - 5) I don't see a downside to choosing Barclay, Chubb or Minkah ... I probably lean towards Barclay because in 12 months time he helps out and multiplies the effectiveness of your new Franchise QB.

Think of it this way: Dallas had a pretty good QB in Prescott, paired with Elliot and they did great. Without Elliot, Prescott stumbled a bit before doing better. But he wasn't great..... Can anyone imagine how good Dallas would have been with Wentz and Elliot together? That's the potential impact/combo we are talking about. I know the OL was a huge factor along with many other things, but it gets the juices flowing.

I love the idea of an elite pass rushing trio in MG, Ogbah and Chubb.

I love the idea of having Minkah directing the D and upgrading our secondary to a new level.

I love the idea of giving your QB a fantastic and elite RB.

Heck I even have friends telling me the Browns need to draft Nelson at 4 because they are convinced he is a future HOF'er....

Man I can't wait for the next 36 days to pass.

Listening to Jordan Palmer on Darnold was fascinating.

Given his background and him knowing Darnold since he was fourteen; he should have a good handle on him.

I wonder if the homeless guy traveled with him . . .

Browns owner watching Sam Darnold's pro day workout

Posted by Darin Gantt on March 21, 2018, 1:23 PM EDT

The Browns are clearly talking to all the quarterbacks at the top of the draft, so it’s normal that General Manager John Dorsey, coach Hue Jackson and others will be at the pro day workouts.

But it’s obvious this year’s different, so the guy in charge is taking it in.

Via Lindsay Rhodes of the NFL Network, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is sitting in the stands at Southern Cal today watching Sam Darnold work out.

His presence there would suggest that he might have been around for their private meeting with Darnold last night, but there has been no other mention of Haslam showing up at other pro days or workouts.

They worked out UCLA’s Josh Rosen yesterday, and have will have a private workout with Baker Mayfield Thursday and then attend Josh Allen‘s pro day Friday. Whether the boss makes the entire road trip remains to be seen, or whether he brought the homeless guy who told him to draft Johnny Manziel.

The Browns pick first and fourth overall, and seem likely to take the quarterback first to guarantee they get their pick.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns owner Jimmy Haslam attended Sam Darnold's Pro Day at USC along with coach Hue Jackson and general manager John Dorsey and others. which is significant.

Cleveland.com previously reported that Dorsey and Jackson were attending the workout, but Haslam is also on hand, which means the Brown are serious about Darnold at No. 1 overall in the draft.

It also means Haslam may have joined Dorsey and Jackson when they took Darnold to dinner on Tuesday night in advance of his Pro Day, after they worked out Josh Rosen privately earlier in the day at UCLA.

The Browns will also conduct a private workout with Baker Mayfield on Thursday, and then attend the Pro Day of Josh Allen on Friday at Wyoming, as well as work him out privately there.

The Browns' top decision-makers are likely criss-crossing the country in Haslam's private jet for the workouts.

All four of the top quarterbacks are in the discussion for the Browns at No. 1, but Darnold and Allen seem to be the frontrunners.

Their trainer, Jordan Palmer, believes it will come down to those two for the Browns and that they can't go wrong with either one.

Jackson, Dorsey and Haslam skipped the Pro Days of Mayfield and Rosen last week, but they were tied up with free agency and overhauling the roster.

I cannot recall a draft, ever, where 4, or possibly even 5, different QBs could potentially go 1st overall in the draft.

It's kind of exciting, and kind of scary.

There is no Andrew Luck, or Peyton Manning. However, we have our choice of any of the top QBs.

We have to get it right. There is a possibility that none of these QBs are the "right" choice, and there is a possibility that all of them could be.

Could this be the 1983 draft all over again? In that draft, we saw Elway, Blackledge, Kelly, Eason, O'Brien, and Marino, all taken in the 1st 27 picks. In a redraft, Elway, Marino, and Kelly would probably have gone 1-2-3 in that draft. Ugh, who would want to be one of the teams that passed on Marino, in favor of Blackledge, Eason, or O'Brien? crazy

I hope that we wind up being the 2918 version of the Broncos, Bills, or Dolphins, and not the Pats, Jets, or Chiefs.

I prefer actual games vs pro days.

Here is the USC vs UCLA game this year. Despite playing w/an inferior team, Josh Rosen was clearly the better qb. Watch for yourself and also please not Herbrsteit's comments on the two guys throughout the game.

This video is about 3 hours long and I get that almost no one will take the time to watch it, but hey, I thought I would provide you all the opportunity.

My takes.

Solid footwork.

TWO HANDS on the ball at ALL TIMES.

Raining. Never lost grip on the ball.

Accuracy all over.

Roll outs were excellent.

HAD to see him in the GUN in the rain. Grip.

Folks. This is THE KAT for us.

Just strikes me as a never give up guy. No matter what happens.

The ONLY thing that would screw this up is failure on the board.

I am starting to think that this is a done deal, us drafting Darnold. Unless we are trying to pull the ultimate bait and switch, it sure feels like we are not hiding our love and our intentions.

Also, there is a VERY large homeless population in LA, and I hear they say Darnold all the way

Right now I am more interested in the second round.

Kinda done talking about the quarterbacks.

Everybody is entitled to stand by their guy.

There is enough tape on Darnold. He has thrown for 7,229 yards.

There is plenty of discussions with people who have been around Darnold for years. His teammates, coaches have all spoken very candidly about Darnold.

Jordan Palmer has known him since he was fourteen and has some very good insight into who Sam Darnold is.

Whatever, anyone thinks of Darnold is fine by me.

I beat the drum hard for Wentz. And many times I thought I was alone. Now it seems like everybody loved him.

Sam Darnold is very good. I believe he will be a very good pro. I hope he becomes a Cleveland Brown.

Over and out.

Yup. I was all in on Jared Goff. Very happy with the trade down once it was clear Goff was out of reach. Carson Wentz just seemed like a risk to me. Didn't think his arm was particularly special, didn't think he was particularly special.

And I was wrong, lol.

Although, Jared Goff aint bad neither. And still is trending upwards

I don't see him as the #1 QB in this draft. Having said that, if he is the one picked I would certainly support him.

I supported picking Wentz. Maybe I just didn't run it into the ground enough for some to remember. lol

Talking about the second round is almost impossible IMO.

You can point out our needs and picks who may be available. But we have very little actual ability to know who will and who won't actually be there at the time of our picks.
