So we have a lot of threads that are specifically about each QB we may draft #1 overall (and it certainly looks like we are going QB #1 overall right now) but we don't have one where everyone provides their QB rankings.

So... What is your top 5? I honestly am having a very tough time differentiating between my top 3 so I am going to rate them 1a,b, and c. I don't have Mayfield too far behind this group either.

The question now becomes, who is the best fit for our current system and roster? We have Taylor who is going to start this year and allow for a QB to develop. We have a good OL and decent RB's. We also have a deep threat WR in Gordon and a very good possession receiver in Landry.

I think it could come down to who fits the best in Todd Haley's system and which QB is more of a Dorsey guy. Given the fact that we now have Taylor as a bridge QB and that Rosen has inferred he does not want us to draft him, makes me think that it is between Darnold and Allen. Who Dorsey/ Haley like more out of those two? I have no idea. If you have the same overall grade on these two guys, does it make sense to trade down to #2 if we can pick up a second rounder?

1a. - Rosen
Strengths: Polish, preparedness
Weaknesses: Willingness to play for the Browns, Character, Durability
1b. - Darnold
Strengths: Accuracy
Weaknesses: Turnovers
1c. - Allen
Strengths: Arm Strength
Weaknesses: Accuracy, Level of Competition

4.- Baker Mayfield
Strengths: Intangibles, Experience in big games, Cockiness
Weaknesses: Height, Cockiness
5.- Lamar Jackson
Strengths: Explosiveness
Weaknesses: Accuracy, Passing Fundamentals

Hold on to your butts, it's going to be a wild ride

You think Josh Rosen has character concerns, but not Baker Mayfield?

Yeah, this is a bit strange of a list of "strengths" and "weaknesses".

I mean, Mayfield, Darnold, and Rosen are all accurate. Especially Josh Rosen.

That's a strength for all of them. You can't make a list this black and white. There's gray areas and stuff.

My listing would be similar to yours, but I definitely have an order in which I rank them....

Top Tier

1. Rosen....best QB to come out in awhile imo. Concussions do cause concern though.

2. Darnold....seems to have everything you want, but the turnovers concern me....as well as the goofy throwing motion.

Second Tier

3. Mayfield......accurate, and can make all the throws. His height is obviously the biggest drawback, but the gimmick offense at Oklahoma worries me to.

4. Allen.......huge arm, biggest upside. The accuracy and mechanical issues are too much for me consider him at #1 in this draft, but in others (like last year) I could be talked into it.

Should not be on Browns radar

5. Jackson.....elite athlete. Gimmick offense, and accuracy issues. He is not nor should he be in the discussion for #1 overall.

We have the number 1 pick, and that has to be Rosen or Darnold. I prefer Rosen, but can see a case for Darnold. All of these other guys really shouldn't be considered for # 1 overall imo. You want to check off as many boxes as possible, and the top two do that. The second tier guys have legitimate boxes that can't be checked off. Either one could be looked upon in ten years as the best QB in the draft (heck Lamar could for that matter), but you want to mitigate risk while getting a guy with upside.....Rosen and Darnold accomplish this the others do not.

Again imho.

Strengths relative to the others. Not overall. ( I view Darnold as more accurate than Rosen, which is why that is his strength)

Rosen's character relative to the Browns is my concern ( not other teams.)

I don't view Mayfield's cockiness as a weakness, I view it more as a double edged sword. It can be a strength or a weakness.

1 - Rosen
Strengths: Short to mid field accuracy, self confidence, and most technically sound QB in the draft.
Weaknesses: Injury History, arrogance that puts people off

2. - Mason Rudolph
Strengths: Best deep ball accuracy in generations, mental processing speed is elite
Weaknesses: Footwork issues that cause bad passes and he doesn't trust receivers to catch the ball if he throws too hard.

3. - Darnold
Strengths: Charisma and ability create after a play break down due to insane reaction speed.
Weaknesses: Avoiding turnovers will make or break him in the NFL

4.- Baker Mayfield
Strengths: great accuracy and mental toughness because he never quits
Weaknesses: Height, maturity issues could hurt himself and his team

5.- Lamar Jackson
Strengths: great running ability, strong arm, great character
Weaknesses: footwork needs to greatly improve to fix accuracy issues

Honorable Mention

Allen.- This guy needs a lot of work but has an incredible arm. He would do well to get drafted and sit for about 3 years while they beat the bad technique out of him and turn him into a decent QB. As it is now though he is far too inaccurate to have a future in the NFL.

-----------------------
Small edit here

The best QB for a vertical game is Mason Rudolph. The best for a WCO is Rosen. The best for a team who want a QB to be a bit random and make stuff up when a play breaks down would be Darnold.

For the Browns I think Mason is my first choice and Darnold my second choice. I think the best QB in the draft though is Rosen.

For me it is as follows:

Baker Mayfield - Looking at PFF stats, he had the highest Adjusted completion percentage, highest completion percentage under pressure, highest percentage in deep passing and one of the best one year PFF grades of any quarterback in college history. I know this is against Big 12 defenses, but it is remarkable. He has battled to get where he is, and shows no signs of stopping.

Josh Rosen - The most talented QB no question. He was a top recruit out of high school, proved himself through his college career and projects beautifully to the NFL. Hits crossers, posts and outs with ease and puts balls where they need to be. The only reason he isn't 1 is his injury history and I question his true drive.

Sam Darnold - Is very good at everything, but not really great at anything. Could be great at all things with coaching and learning.

After this, I feel there is a steep drop. These top three guys, I am confident that they will all be starters for a long time (barring bad injuries). The rest are boom/bust type quarterbacks. With the proper placement and coaching, they could be servicable to great. But they could be busts:

Josh Allen
Mike White
Lamar Jackson
Luke Faulk
Mason Rudolph
Tanner Lee

2. Mayfield
3. Darnold

4. Rudolph
5. Allen

This is where i'm at right now.
I'm still watching games and looking at information.
And haven't "weighted" the categories.

If you add up all your numbers you have Jackson 1st at 40, Darnold, Allen, and Mayfied tied at 2nd at 39, and Rosen last at 37 (Assuming I added correctly, I did it in my head.) Is that how you'd rank them on your draft board?

Disregard, I just saw where you wrote you hadn't weighted the categories.

I know, only one of those guys is right there for the taking, as the Browns are on the clock,

Who knows, time will tell. April 26th.

This is the best.

Anyway, J/C

Also, someone called Bobby Petrino's offense a "gimmick" offense.

Anyway:

1. Rosen
2. Darnold
3. Jackson
4. Mayfield
5. Allen

I think guys 1-4 have a very good chance at being good players (to varying degrees).

I might not have the best memory but I'm quite sure that that wasn't me, so to put that as the next line to what I put, is leaving me questioning?

1) Rosen

2) Mayfield
3) Darnold

4)Allen
5) Jackson

I see it as three groups. Rosen is alone at the top, Darnold and Mayfield are group two, with Mayfield having the edge over Darnold. Then my final group is Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

Honestly, all of these guys could be successful. Mason Rudolph too. I think it's a very deep class. But based off of the film, Rosen is clearly the top QB in my book. Not sure how anyone could think otherwise.

Maybe there's character questions or health questions that could drop him, but I don't have access to that kind of stuff. So, based off of the film, clearly, Rosen is the top guy. He's accurate, strong arm, makes reads like an NFL QB, looks like a solid NFL Franchise QB to me.

EDIT: I'll try to be excited no matter who we get, as long as it's a QB picked at 1, and we went through a good thorough process to pick our guy. I have faith in this FO.

I won't have to try to be excited if it's Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold. I'll feel pretty darn good

1. Mayfield: All I read from this board and others is "HEIGHT" as his negative and yet Mayfield is that height he's played in that "HEIGHT" his entire career, he has persevered so to me "Height" is just a meaningless stat. When the kid plays he has excellent feet. The most accurate passer in this draft. Can make all the throws. Wide open or tight windows.

2. Sam Darnold: been looking at him close as it appears the Browns will be taking him at #1. He has a quick release and seems to be eager to Learn and improve. Good Arm, Good Leader and can make all the throws.

3. Josh Rosen: he has been groomed to be an NFL QB throughout his life and has had the best coaches. There seems to be a bit of entitlement in the kid. Has he had to work for what he has gotten? Also there are the injury issues from his last season. I don't know I hate to compare cause all are individuals but I think about Marinovich a lot. I'm sure Rosen is nothing like him but he will probably be a Giant.

4. Josh Allen: he has a great arm and can make all the throws. His personnel in college were not NFL caliber, his coaching staff was not the best money could buy. He seems to have responded well with the QB camps so far maybe the biggest upside. Look for Denver to trade up to our #4 and get him.

The rest don't belong in the first round but as we know QBs will move up from the 2nd round and get taken earlier than expected so who knows.

jmho

Multiple posters have mentioned negatives other than his height. Whether you agree with those points or not is another matter. But others have been mentioned.
