Is anyone watching this series on the History Channel? I liked the other Men Who Built America and the Frontiersmen series is equally just as fascinating to me.

Just curious if anyone else is into this show thus far? If you're into history, I would have to highly recommend it.

I loved the original few episodes. I'll have to check this one out as well. Thanks for the heads up!

I love stuff like this, definitely will check it out

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I've got them DVRd. Watched a bit of the Boone episode. Not overly impressed. It's an area I read about and have studied a lot. Wasn't impressed with "The Revenant" and didn't expect much here. Too many liberties taken. I'll give them a shot but don't expect too much factual info from HC...

in the same vain, I do like the show America: History of US (I mentioned it somewhere else) ... that's a neat documentary

I've been recording them too, perhaps you could provide some history vs hollywood type commentary as the shows go on.

WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM
my two cents...

Mainly it's really been about thus far the expansion of the United States territory. 1OldMutt, if liberties being taken, this time period the show has been about will highly turn you away.

But it is indeed that. Andrew Jackson's span in taking Indian territory and fighting against the British. Boone was going to be punished or lead a group of settlers into new territory and the Lewis and Clark expedition (which really was the HUGE journey into the west in newly purchased land) and so much more.

Example, I knew of Sacagawea but I had no idea that when Lewis and Clark were trudging through the lands there, they would meet an overpowering Indian force but, of ALL coincidences - it was lead by the lost brother of Sacagawea.

The format of the show is very well fashioned too, but you need to be into history and be accepting to that time period, even when bad things happened.

I watched that show, and liked the first couple episodes, but it quickly got worse as the show went on. It's like they ran out of budget or something, or the guy that directed the first few shows left, and they brought in an intern. They just kept reusing the same graphics and such from previous episodes and chose to focus on weird topics for each era.

When they were talking about the 1920's, they spent almost the entire episode just talking about the mafia and Al Capone. Almost to the point where I thought I was watching a documentary about the Mob. Then they get to the 1960s and spent maybe 3 minutes to say, "Oh yeah, we went to the moon".

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. I like the format how they "reenact" things to give you a view into that time in history, but when they completely botch facts, it makes you wonder about them. I remember seeing the episode about Edison/Tesla after watching some good documentaries about Tesla, and I couldn't believe how many details they got wrong.

Boone actually didn't have debt problems until around 1799 I believe. He moved to Missouri then and finished out his life there. He didn't do guide work as penance! Approximately 1800-1820 as I recall we're his Missouri years.

He also didn't discover the Cumberland d Gap but rather blazed a new trail for settlers. (The Widerness Road) The gap itself was first explored (by white men at least) by a Dr./frontiersman/explorer, Thomas Walker. I only watched about 1/2 that episode...in no real rush to watch the next but eventually may.

I almost want you to watch the show and give me points of interest that is questionable lol.

According to the show, Boone owed a debt to someone and had been out when Indians stole his pelts and etc, resulting in him not being able to pay the debt. It was then that I believe the Judge Henderson said he could serve some form of punishment, or go into Kentucky and into the new land that he had purchased from the Cherokees and establish a trail. That's when the settlers built Fort Boone, AKA Boonesborough. Boone's daughter was stolen. Attack by Blackfish and etc. I will have to jump into Google or Wiki.
