j/c.. Adam Schefter Verified account @AdamSchefter Another blockbuster trade: Giants trading DE Jason Pierre-Paul and a 2018 fourth-round pick to Buccaneers for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN. Tweet Adam Schefter Verified account @AdamSchefter Now that the Giants have traded Jason Pierre-Paul to the Buccaneers, maybe they consider Bradley Chubb at No. 2. Tweet WOW JPP and a 4 round pick swap for a third? I would have to agree now that Chubb going to the Giants is extremely feasible.

It's all about the NY audience and season ticket sales. Does it sound reasonable for NYG to take a DE when their rival for season tickets just moved to #3 to take a brand new QB that will energize their base and sales? Does NYG's move to dump JPP mean they want Chubb or were they simply dumping an aging veteran DE with 11 seasons under his belt, while also dumping his 11 million in cap hit? Is this just an opportunity to try to bait Dorsey into taking Chubb with #1 leaving them their choice at QB? With all the scuttlebutt about us taking Darnold, could Darnold be Eli's replacement? What's your conspiracy theory?

Chubb at #2 or trade with Bills and pick up Davenport at #12 and OG at #22 and RB with second rounder.
Been saying all along they are content with Eli and Webb at QB.

What's your conspiracy theory? My thoughts are basically, don't pay attention to all the noise. GMs aren't telling reporters who they are going to take. When things leak, it might be true or it might be smoke. Fans usually have no way of knowing. Teams signing/releasing/trading/trading for marginal players tends not to have as much of an effect on the top of the draft as some assume. Now, just apply some logic. The Giants went 3-13 last year. Eli was never in the top-tier of QBs, he's 37, and declining. They're probably going to take a QB. If they don't take a QB, well it just so happens there are several QB-needy teams in the top 12 of the draft, and teams are becoming increasingly aggressive (desperate?) to acquire top QB prospects. The value of the #2 pick is tremendous and they won't turn it down to draft a RB or DE. Put it all together and you end up with this: QB is going #2, and it won't be to the Jets (partially for the reason you described.)

Been saying all along they are content with Eli and Webb at QB. I find that hard to believe. A new GM/Head Coach gets one shot to get the QB right. If they screw it up, they're gone fairly quickly. Eli showed signs of decline last year. He is 37. He is nearer to the end, then to the beginning. What does he have left, maybe a year or 2? Hopefully you aren't going to be drafting this high anytime soon. There are a number of excellent franchise caliber QBs waiting for you. I was a big Davis Webb pimp, but it's still questionable whether or not he can be that franchise guy. He's shown no evidence that it's the case. He's under his rookie contract for another 3 years. I don't see them tying their futures to Webb, when they have a potentially great QB ready to fall into their laps.

Believe what you want.
Eli declined because his OL sucked and their skill players were injured for most of the year - No Beckham or Marshall. Shepherd played hurt and for only half the year.
They were a playoff team with 11 wins the year before and they suddenly fell off the cliff.
McAdoo was a disaster.

Casual fans might, but casual fans usually don't buy season tickets. They buy single game tickets. Note.....I am not putting down people who don't hold season tickets. I am just saying that I don't think people who do buy season tickets switch team alliance easily, and neither team has a shortage of season ticket holders. Sales to business are another matter. Business will buy tickets to both, much as they contribute to both Presidential candidates.....that's just smart business, but all those seats are taken. I would bet that single seat sales are pretty small for each team.....maybe 15-20% of the seats are reserved for game day sales. Shoot, I'd bet way over half the games in Cleveland are sold as season tickets. It would be interesting to know.

Tell that to the Saints and the Patriots, too. Clever, but Brady and Brees have not fallen off like Eli has. I get the surrounding talent argument and am not disputing it. However, I know qbs and Eli is not playing as well as Brady or Brees. It's not cool to try and sell that he is playing as good as those two to just win a debate.

Never said he was playing as well as either TB or Brees. I was pointing out that they too have older QBs with no immediate successor as well - although NE had one - and we know what happened there.
I also do not believe Eli has fallen off the cliff as some are suggesting. One off year which can be somewhat attributed to injuries, coaching, and poor OL. Has he declined, yes. in 2016, he threw for over 4000 yards with 26 TDs.
Having said that, I have no clue what the Giants are going to do. I just don't think it is clearcut that they are going to draft a QB at #2. But that is just my unsolicited opinion.

Okay, thanks for the clarification and that is fair.
I agree w/you that I don't think he has fallen off a cliff either. I think that he wasn't quite as good at Brady and Brees [and that is no insult] and that his OL sucked the last couple of years. Also, his top WRs got injured and he had no running game. Those are all factors.
On the other hand, he did digress a bit. I am saying that because he made a ton of mistakes on his own.
I like Eli. I just don't think he is as good as Brady or Brees and I think the Giants need to consider finding his replacement. Then again, I think NE and NO needs to do the same. There is probably a bit more urgency in NY, but all of those guys are nearing the end.

Tell that to the Saints and the Patriots, too. Once those guys fall off the edge, I think that it's going to be a massive descent. I think that their teams have to have a backup plan, and since NY picks so high this year, it would be foolish for them to pass up a franchise quality QB, in a very good draft for them. The Pats and Saints are likely to be out of range for the very best QBs in this draft. The Giants are not. I cannot see them passing on one.
