Facts don't lie. That's as true now as it was at Donald Trump's January 2017 inauguration.
The estimated turnout at the March For Our Lives demonstration in Washington, D.C. falls at around 800,000. That data point comes from official connected to the demonstration's organizers, speaking to NBC.

It's also a significantly higher number than earlier forecasts had predicted.
Jacob Soboroff ✔ @jacobsoboroff Replying to @jacobsoboroff Officials connected with today’s #MarchForOurLives here in D.C. tell @NBCNews that they are estimating a crowd size of *800,000* after forecasts of 500,000.
Sure feels likes that from our vantage point on the ground. 3:19 PM - Mar 24, 2018 188 80 people are talking about this Twitter Ads info and privacy Not to take the focus of the day away from what's important — gun control, and sending a message to politicians who accept NRA dollars — but it's worth noting: The estimated D.C. turnout for March For Our Lives is a great deal larger than popular estimates of the crowd size at Trump's inauguration.
Days after the inauguration, an expert in crowd science compared photos of Trump's with Barack Obama's and deduced that the former attracted roughly one-third the crowd of the latter. It's hard to be exact when dealing with such massive numbers of people, but with Obama's estimated inauguration attendance 1.8 million, Trump's total falls somewhere in the realm of 600,000.
We point this out only because Trump infamously made such a big deal out of his inauguration crowd. He sent his then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer out to proclaim that Trump's crowd "was the largest audience to witness an inauguration, period."
Despite the fact that Spicer's statement was provably false, Trump has never backtracked the claim or publicly backed off his contention.
March For Our Lives isn't the first demonstration to draw a larger crowd than Trump's inauguration — that distinction inarguably goes to the Women's March on Washington, staged one day after the new president was sworn in. But it is the latest, and it should warm your heart to know how much Americans care about putting a stop to gun violence.

I was at Portland's march and there were tens of thousands marching in the street as a cold drizzle rained on us. Most of the signs were anti-NRA and it all concluded with a free concert by local band, Portugal The Man. It was great to see the youth so eager, motivated and energized. I think the GOP has a lot to worry about as November will bring many new voices to the voting booth.

My 18-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter attended the one here in Akron, Ohio. I didn't even know anything about it until they came home Saturday afternoon and I asked them where they had been all morning. It kind of was a proud parent moment for me, not because they were necessarily sharing my views or anything, but just that I raised kids who are aware of their place in the world and would go and stand up for something they believe in on their own.

Just making the point that the good cause of Keeping our Kids Safe at School, something we all want, has been hijacked into Gun Bans and NRA crushing.
I actually agree and I really dont know that that is what my kids want . I wont speak for them , but it is not anything I have seen from them. They want this violence to end , I am sure they have their ideas on how to accomplish that, and I may or not agree with all their thoughts.
I am just proud that I raised two kids who do care about what is going on around them, I am proud that I have two kids who want to be involved and try to improve the world they have to live in. I am proud that I have two kids that can think and have their own thoughts and ideas rather than just parrot what their parent(s) think. It makes me proud that they got up early on a Saturday morning , on their own , and went and participated in our democracy.

I wonder how many NRA members have shot up schools and churches? My guess is none.
There are points from both sides of this debate that I can agree with.
I do believe the media used these marches far more for their own agenda and purposes than to actually help spread the message of the students themselves. I believe many of the adult speakers used their part of the platform to expand their message far beyond the students intent. So to that extent, I do believe the students got played. I watched and listened to a lot of what transpired yesterday and that's what I got out of what I saw.
The students message had nothing to do with the slayings of MLK, JFK and Bobby Kennedy. Yet John Lewis used this platform to go far beyond the intent of the students. There were many other such examples. So yes, I agree with those on the right who say that the students were exploited.
On the other hand, I applaud the students for standing together for a cause they believe in. Whether I agree with their views or not, I've never had someone come into my school and mow down my fellow students and have to witness such an atrocity with my own two eyes. I have not had to attend the funerals of my friends killed by senseless violence within a building that by law I had to enter every day. I did not have to face the daily fear that my school may be the next target of something like this.
I find it shameful of those who attack them on a political basis when they have no idea how something like this feels to have to live through. You see, I believe in civil discourse. I believe in the right to assemble and free speech whether I agree with it or not. I can disagree and disavow people who march while at the same time stand up for their right to do so.
I can understand how and why people may question the politicians and media who surround such events. Why they question the motives of some who promote and help fund such events. Those are positions that can be considered as legitimate.
But when you start to target 15, 16 and 17 year old school kids who have had to experience such horrific events and wonder about their life and safety on a daily basis, you make yourselves look like the whak a moles so many claim you are. You only serve to help those you seem to oppose. You're not doing anything that will ever help promote the side of the debate you claim to stand for.

PARKLAND, Fla. -- When Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students return from spring break, they'll be required by the local school district to use clear backpacks and wear identification badges at all times. Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie told parents in a two-page letter about the security changes. It said the backpacks will be given to students at no cost when they return to school on April 2.
Runcie also noted that metal detectors may soon be installed at the school in Parkland, Florida, where a teenager who carried an assault weapon in a large bag killed 17 people on Valentine's Day.
Parents district-wide were told reinforced safety protocols will include expediting "single point entry" measures for visitors, locking all classroom doors and upgrading surveillance systems.
Students calling for change after the Parkland shooting
Meanwhile, already heightened security will be bolstered at the school on Thursday. Florida Gov. Rick Scott ordered eight highway patrol troopers to assist with securing the grounds -- a step that came after the shooting suspect's brother was arrested there, two students were caught carrying knives and another made online threats.
The troopers will be stationed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School indefinitely along with Broward County deputies, leaving an armed guard at every campus entrance point, Scott said in a statement. Before the shooting, the school was patrolled by one armed deputy and unarmed guards. An unspecified number of deputies, some armed with rifles, were added after the school reopened.
"Parents, students and teachers have recently endured one of the worst tragedies in Florida history," Scott said. "They must be assured that every necessary step is being taken to increase safety and ensure no unauthorized people are allowed on campus."
The strengthened security comes three days after suspect Nikolas Cruz's younger brother, Zachary Cruz, was arrested on trespassing charges. Deputies said he was found Monday riding his skateboard on campus after dismissal after being told to stay away.
Zachary Cruz, 18, is being held on $500,000 bond and Broward County Judge Kim Theresa Mollica has approved a search of his home for weapons. The Broward Sheriff's Office wants him barred from possessing firearms and also involuntarily hospitalized for a mental health evaluation under a state law passed after the Feb. 14 shooting spree that killed 17.
Zachary and Nikolas, 19, both attended Stoneman Douglas. They shared the same biological mother but had different fathers. Both were adopted at very young ages by Roger and Lynda Cruz, who moved them into their Parkland home. Lynda Cruz died in November and their father died some years earlier.
In a separate case, Mollica imposed a $12,500 bail Wednesday on Jordan Salter, a Stoneman Douglas student who officials say pulled a small knife on a boy who she says was harassing her and a friend. The SunSentinel reports that Salter attorney Brian Reidy called the high bond "out of control" and "ridiculous" at a hearing and blamed it on fear from last month's rampage.
"I don't know when we all hit the fear button when everything is such an absolute emergency," Reidy told the judge.
Salter, 18, was one of two students arrested recently for bringing a knife to school.
In another case, a 10th grader who was not identified "was removed from class for posting pictures on Snapchat depicting a handgun in his waistband and numerous bullets." BSO said the student stated the picture was "of a BB gun and the bullets were his father's." The student "...goes by a gamer tag name he created called, 'NickCruz'. He uses this gamer tag in the game Fortnite." The student has been committed for a psychological evaluation.
In yet another incident, BSO announced this week that Deputy Moises Carotti was suspended with pay after a student notified the school he was asleep in his patrol unit.
Meanwhile, Florida residents won't get a chance to vote this fall on adding gun control restrictions to the state constitution. A state panel on Wednesday rejected several proposed restrictions on procedural grounds. A majority of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission voted that the gun control measures were out of order and couldn't be considered under commission rules. The commission is allowed to propose changes to the state constitution.
Elsewhere, several media organizations including The Associated Press asked a judge to determine if additional surveillance video from the school shooting should be released. Last week, the Broward Sheriff's Office released a 27-minute video depicting ex-deputy Scot Peterson's actions remaining outside the building where the shooting took place.
Nickolas Cruz's attorney has said he will plead guilty to 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder if prosecutors will waive the death penalty, which they have refused to do.
I’ve never seen so much hate for a group of kids before in my life.
I guess not wanting to get shot is a horrible thing to protest over.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I'm not a gun guy, but I am a second a supporter in that I don't think access to guns for hunting or protection should not be taken away or "infringed upon".
With that said, we also need to do something to change the course of our society. When I was young, I don't remember school shootings happening. Yes there was the occasional sniper style shooting, but kids didn't think about shooting their school up or at least I never heard of that happening.
How do we make our kids not just feel safe but actually safe now?
Is the right to own certain guns worth the life of a single child, let alone dozens?
If we limit type, scope, range, capacity, etc. Where do we draw the line?
Other than limiting the danger and death toll with limited gun control, short of an outright gun ban, how does the mass shooting genie go back in the bottle?

I hate that these kids are puppets being used to push an Agenda.
There are options out there that are not being talked about such as the armed security guard which recently saved lives at a school shooting and the clear backpacks so the guns are harder to bring into schools.
I didn't hear either of these options during the speeches, nor were there any signs with that on them. Look at what they do at sporting events thousands of people go through every game no trouble and no new gun laws had to be passed why not apply this to schools?

Don't know your age but when I grew up kids had respect for others, kids didn't sass their parents let alone take a gun to school, it seems today kids lost that respect just no self accountability.
As you said we have had guns of all types for years the difference is the respect and responsibility ( not saying all kids).

Is it the gun or the person using the gun?
The gun itself is just a tool any tool can be used to kill.

The devices that exploded in Austin and near San Antonio were pipe bombs with batteries and smokeless powder and were constructed with materials found in a hardware or sporting goods store, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.
The bombs had distinctive shrapnel inside. Some had "mousetrap" switches and others had "clothespin" switches, the source said.
