It's Saturday. You make no sense at all. You just want to be right for once in your life.

You're right all of their protests have been on a Saturday my bad.

That's why the thrad title is...'School walkouts to protest gun violence and laws.'

I have absolutely no idea what point you are trying to make. I was at today's rally in Portland and I saw tens of thousands of students and adults & the overwhelming message was clear...change is coming and the politicians who are supported by the NRA should be afraid. 95% of the signs at the rally were anti-NRA. And, this is just one city across this country where demonstrations happened. These students will help vote the spineless politicians out.

Kinda doubt it.

Same thing was supposed to happen with the NFL kneeling...what happened with that?

More people in the USA die by stabs than by rifles. WAY more. In Europe and Asia knives have been used in mass killings MORE than guns have been used in the USA for mass killings.

The idea that if you regulate guns that mass killings will go down is completely false. It will just change form. Bombs and knives are far more likely to kill you too. It's much easier to stab someone to death as the wounds tend to do a LOT more damage as they stab at lungs and hearts at cloer ange and often by ambush. Bombs just hit everything. Guns have to be aimed and are much harder to smuggle in due to size.

Don't believe me?

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-new...ides-180949953/

The real gun they should make it harder to sell are handguns and not assault rifles. Why? because poor people often cant even dream of owning an expensive rifle that could cost thousands. Yet handguns get very little regulation. Why? because they know it doesn't work. The two states with the highest gun control regulations have the WORST gun crimes because criminals will get the guns illegally instead of obeying the law and thus they don't have to worry about being tracked down.

There are over 1 billion guns in the USA. It's easy for criminals to buy one cheap and without any red tape or legal authorities to stop them. Wake up people and fix the root problems causing the violence instead of handing over your rights as Americans for a false sense of security that will NEVER be there.

WATCH: Parkland Student’s ‘Salute’ After Speech Causes Major Twitter Reaction

https://www.dailywire.com/news/28631/wat...ampaign=dwbrand

On Saturday, an enraged student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gave a fiery speech, and at its conclusion threw up a salute that ignited a firestorm on social media.

Far-left activist David Hogg attacked Republicans during his speech, saying, "I’m going to start off by putting this price tag right here as a reminder for you guys to know how much Marco Rubio took for every student's life in Florida."

Hogg continued with his Democratic talking points, stating: "Let's put the USA over the NRA."

Toward the end of his approximately four-minute speech, Hogg said, "Thank you. I love you all. God bless all of you and God bless America. We can and we will change the world!"

At that moment, Hogg threw up a salute that sent Twitter into a frenzy.

It is not clear what Hogg meant by his hand gesture, whether it was from some sort of past political movement or if it was just something he did spur of the moment.

Here are some of the reactions that people had to it:

Francois d'Ottawa @LancopCF

First it was armbands, now it's salutes. #MarchForOurLives seems dedicated to reviving the totalitarianism that brought so much bloodshed last century. The demonization of groups in society, calls for violence, etc This is why Americans own guns. #MAGA https://twitter.com/RealSaavedra/status/977601968603480066

Again, while it's not clear what Hogg meant by his hand gesture, different media outlets like BuzzFeed News published clips of his entire speech, but specifically cut off the part where he makes the salute. Why edit it out?

As someone who was actually in the military, this meme makes no sense.

The meme isn't about banning assault rifles. It is about changing the age to 21 to buy rifles. What makes no sense is the use of it in this thread.

Florida passes bill to restrict gun sales in wake of school shooting

Tue, Mar 06

In the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the Florida legislature has passed a bill raising the age to buy guns and banning sales of bump stocks. NBC’s Kerry Sanders reports for TODAY from Parkland, Florida.

So, I’m watching news coverage of several of the student marches on TV this morning when all of a sudden I realize, these events are super racist against blacks.

These school shootings were in lily white schools.

I was watching the marchs and in scenes of maybe 100 students/people there’d be 98 whites and maybe 2 blacks.

But then the camera crew would seek out and interview the two black kids (who obviously attended lily white schools as they were very well-spoken) and it gave the illusion that whites and blacks were like hand-in-hand in this.

But it is really a white event.

Think about it please.

Look at these huge marches all over the country to protest gun violence. Spurred by school shootings at lily white schools.

Where were these “protesters” while 20 blacks a day are murdered in the United States?

20 blacks were murdered in the U.S. yesterday. And the day before. And the day before that.

And today and tomorrow and every day.

And this has been going on for decades. EVERY DAY!

That’s 140 blacks a week - MURDERED. Every single week.

There hasn’t been a hundred students killed in schools in the last 100 years.

But the handful of students who were killed were white.

Their rallying cry should be:

“WHITE LIVES MATTER!!!” (more)

Good for you. I’m proud of these kids. They want teachers that listen as much as teach. Students don’t want the likes you anyways.

This was my experience....kids destroying property in the class...kids verbally abusing students trying to learn on a daily basis....discipline the kids with in the guidelines established by administration only to have them return the same way for lack of true consequences....my last day was vivid as a group of students were again verbally attacking a sophomore girl who was standing up for herself and me....I intervened and there words were “I do t have to listen to anything you say....you are just a fu**%ng teacher”.

I immediately kicked the kids out of class....told them to never come back during my class time...after 12 weeks of ineffective discipline by the administration,I took action....administration sided with students and the rest is history.

I talk to teachers today....nothing has changed so few I got out 20 years ago.

It's sadly ironic that the grown man who is criticizing the students for being on their phones and using social media is also the one who is polluting this thread with idiotic and immature "memes" that attack the students. Equally as sad are those who hit the "like" button.

Here is a thought. Forget all about the NRA and focus on the parents who abuse, and ignore their children. The ones who spoil their kids rotten. The ones who either are to lazy, to stupid, or just don't care enough to actually discipline their own children. THAT is where most of the problem comes from. Not from the gun.

Again...parental issues affect other countries too and yet, they do not have tens of thousands dying or being shot from guns in their streets, in the park, in their homes, in their schools, in their cinemas, in their malls, at concerts, in the bars, or in their churches. So yes, I will focus on the gun & gun culture and I refuse to "forget all about the NRA" who give millions of dollars to spineless politicians to buy their votes.

You go ahead and waste your time on blaming guns. I will waste mine worrying about parents not doing their jobs, and the family unit going to hell.

Two injured in Maryland school shooting 01:00

(CNN)A 17-year-old male student shot two other students at Great Mills High School in Maryland on Tuesday morning before a school resource officer engaged him and stopped the threat, authorities said.
The incident began in a school hallway at 7:55 a.m., just before classes started. Authorities say Austin Wyatt Rollins, armed with a handgun, shot a female and a male student. The shooter had a prior relationship with the female student, St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron said.
School resource officer Blaine Gaskill responded to the scene in less than a minute, the sheriff said. Gaskill fired a round at the shooter, and the shooter fired a round simultaneously, Cameron said.

ollins was later pronounced dead. Gaskill was unharmed. The 16-year-old female student is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, and the 14-year-old male student who was shot is in stable condition.

Cameron said he was not sure whether Gaskill's bullet hit the suspect, but he praised the officer's quick response to the situation.
"He responded exactly as we train our personnel to respond," he said.
The incident is the 17th school shooting in the United States since January 1, according to CNN research.
"This is what we train for, this is what we prepare for, and this is what we pray that we never have to do. On this day, we realized our worst nightmare," Cameron said.
"The notion of 'it can't happen here' is no longer a notion."
The school was on lockdown for a brief time, and students were evacuated from Great Mills High School to a reunification center at a nearby high school, the school system said.

School buses lined up in front of Great Mills High School after a shooting on Tuesday to transport students to another school.
Toni Foreman, who lives near the suspect and his family in nearby Lexington Park, said he was a good kid from a nice family who used to play catch and ride bikes with her son.
"Whenever snow was out, he would help shovel," she said. "I'm just totally floored that it was him."
Jonathan Freese, a student at Great Mills, called CNN from his cellphone during the lockdown in his math class. Police were going through classrooms to clear the school, Freese said.
"I'm still a little shaken up," he said.
A mother walks with her daughter, a student from Great Mills High School, as she picks her up from a nearby high school in Leonardtown, Maryland, on Tuesday.

A mother walks with her daughter, a student from Great Mills High School, as she picks her up from a nearby high school in Leonardtown, Maryland, on Tuesday.
Freese said the school had held drills a couple of times for this kind of situation.
"I didn't really expect for this to happen. I do always feel safe, though, because they always have police at the school," he said.
Great Mills High School is in Great Mills, about 70 miles southeast of Washington. It has more than 1,500 students, about 56% of them minority students, and its four-year graduation rate is 91%, according to the school's 2015-16 improvement plan.
17th school shooting this year
Last week, students at Great Mills High School walked out of class as part of a student-led protest against school violence in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Several students from Stoneman Douglas tweeted about the Great Mills school shooting on Tuesday, offering their thoughts and calling for an end to gun violence in schools.

"The words School & Shooting should not be next to each other. Headlines like this should not have to be typed up every week. All of these incidents have one thing in common. My thoughts are with Maryland right now," tweeted student activist Adam Alhanti.
Other Stoneman Douglas students contrasted the Maryland school resource officer's quick response with the Stoneman Douglas officer's decision not to enter the school and engage the shooter.
"At least someone is doing their job," Stoneman Douglas student Tanzil Philip said. "I feel like if our (school resource officer) would have went in the building, the overall result would've been less bad."

"It makes me feel angry that the protocols were not effective in our situation," said Demitri Hoth, another Stoneman Douglas student.

Gov. Larry Hogan said the shooting was a "call to action" to address school safety.
"Although our pain remains fresh and the facts remain uncertain, today's horrible events should not be an excuse to pause our conversation about school safety. Instead, it must serve as a call to action," he said in a statement.
Speaking to reporters, President Donald Trump called the shooting "a terrible thing."

Many more children are being murdered every day thru abortion. Where is the passion for the voice of the innocent? No where because liberals see abortion as population control. Only what fits their communist agenda gets a voice.

It's not political, it's moral. A five year old has the correct solution. Devoid from the corruption of humanity. CO2 and temperature. Weapons and destruction.

Time to make amends, eradication, slavery, segregation, guns. This cannot be the result of George Washington.

That's a matter of opinion. If killing cells or growths in or on your body is murder, then a whole bunch of things must end. But if you are only talking about the human fetus in particular (which I know you are), then anything that kills that fetus, harms it, or prevents it from coming into being is also under scrutiny. Unless you set a determination of when a clump of cells becomes a viable human being.

As a country we have done that and made laws based on that even if they don't agree with your personal beliefs. BUT because you have the same right these kids do, we let you spew your anti abortion laws rhetoric whenever you want. You might note that nobody made racists claims or called you a commie...

The thing no understands is that criminals will never obey the rules and laws anyways so the only one your are disarming are citizens who could have protected themselves. A woman who might have avoided being raped, a weaker man who was going to be stabbed, or anyone else in a similar situation. That's on all you gun control freaks who want to take away our right to bear arms to protect ourselves.

Police can't keep people safe. They are just there to clean up the bodies, some of which were put there themselves. With so many cops being proven to be corrupt or abusing their authority you really think it's ok to leave them as the only ones who own guns? Really?

The last time a war was fought on American soil was fought by armed militaries, policemen and citizens. I would absolutely not give up my right to be armed if cops and stateside military are still armed. That's ridiculous. That's how you get a crappy setting for a ya distopian book.
