Time To Get Serious
hello out there have you thought about:
the oceans are all dying the economy’s in the tank wars start with the government lying and generals and arms dealers to thank.
the air gives our kids asthma the weather’s gone beserk there’s toxins in our plasma and millions out of work.
supergerms collect in pools behind every hospital door there’s no money for our schools still the army cries for more.
the cities will be flooded as the ice not so slowly melts fukushima’s radiation is included echoing hiroshima’s brutal welts.
the stock market is soaring we’ll close our eyes until we crash the bankers aren’t lending your money just their private stash.
the ads show cute people with smart phones changing the world or just shifting screens? the super-rich live in luxury homes you can see in magazines.
guns do kill, we all know it in our schools and on the street without them kids aren’t deadly just throwing punches not deadly metal sleet.
Monsanto tampers with the seeds of life And ruins poor farmers who won’t play ball While big pharma pushes lifestyle drugs And leaves antibiotics out in the hall.
but Kim and Khloe are very happy and are quickly getting rich I don’t blame them but people really does your tv have a turn-off switch?
do you care what Cruise’s kids look like or who should draft that left tackle from Tennessee do you stay up after midnight posting facebook photos no one wants to see?
I don’t mean to sound alarmist But it’s our kids’ futures I’m talking about Of people I may not be the calmest But I don’t think it’s weird to want to shout You’re human not an ostrich Pull your head out from the sand Take a breath and give yourself a lift And lend the world a helping hand

Zuckerberg, I'm not a huge fan but I have followed his story since the beginning and I think he's got some good points here. We were all taken advantage of by the hackers.
The hackers developed facebook apps (quizzes) and tricked users into participating in things they thought were entertainment while they were really building a database of what scares people. Their intent was to use their fear to manipulate them.
In a nutshell, if you know who the hardcore wingnuts are they become easy to target with memes and such. This allows them to spread fake news propaganda and spread it via the users, their friends, and connections.
If you can target thousands of users, you will reach millions.
Facebook's problem is not foreseeing this abuse and taking measures to stop it.
The other issue is that it becomes a matter of national security. We need to know if our elections can be tampered with or even our society is being manipulated by creating vicious divides using existing political, religious, racial, etc. biases. This makes us incredibly vulnerable to many bad possibilities.
We'll disagree on this, and it's okay. Here's my reasoning:
I want to know where people lay their allegiance.
In short, I'll side with Alexander Hamilton over Aaron Burr.
Quote:
[Burr (Company):] I (I wanna be in the room where it happens) Wanna be (The room where it happens) In the room where it happens (The room where it happens) I (I wanna be in the room where it happens) I wanna be in the room… (The room where it happens) Oh (The room where it happens) Oh (I wanna be in the room where it happens) I wanna be (Where it happens) I wanna be (Where it happens) I've got to be, I've got to be (I wanna be in the room where it happens) In that room (The room where it happens) In that big ol' room (The room where it happens)
[Company:] The art of the compromise
[Burr:] Hold your nose and close your eyes
[Company:] We want our leaders to save the day
[Burr:] But we don't get a say in what they trade away
[Company:] We dream of a brand new start
[Burr:] But we dream in the dark for the most part
[Burr and Company:] Dark as a tomb where it happens
--------------- Here's some more reasoning. It sums up my feelings.
Quote:
[Jefferson:] He's not very forthcoming on any particular stances
[Madison:] Ask him a question: it glances off, he obfuscates, he dances
Quote:
Burr (Ensemble):] Talk less! (Burr!) Smile more! (Burr!) Don't let 'em know what you're against or what you're for! (Burr!) Shake hands with him!
Quote:
[Hamilton:] I have never agreed with Jefferson once
[Jefferson/Madison/Ensemble:] Oh!
[Hamilton:] We have fought on like seventy-five diff'rent fronts
[Jefferson/Madison/Ensemble:] Oh!
[Hamilton:] But when all is said and all is done Jefferson has beliefs, Burr has none
----------------------
I don't want people hiding behind some obfuscating viewpoint, and that viewpoint is just used to hide their true feelings.
Sorry, 45 stands for a numerous of reprehensible things this country ain't meant for. I will call out white supremacy, discrimination, and everything of that ilk. -------------------------- You should get into Hamilton.

Hackers? Funny, I thought hackers stole information. People willingly give up that info now. Most of you will come back telling me that I'm comparing this to obummer, but Facebook willingly gave him data so they could taylor ads to people. Google and Facebook had satellite offices in the white house for the 2012 election. Now to hear the dems say it, when they did it, it was genius. When the republicans did it, it's a crime. This is why I don't have a facebook, instigram, twitter, or other soctal media accounts other than this one. I value my pricacy, and I don't like peopLe trying to manipulate me.
Most of you can't even figure out why people voted for trump or why he's still supported. He promised to lower taxes, remove regulations, and secure the borders. He's gotten two of those three done, and is still doing more on them. Obama promised "hope and change" and let people make up their own minds on what that meant.
Furthermore, most of trumps 'scandals' have been for things he did way before office, while obummer scandals happened in office. I don't care if trump plooked a porn star. I don't care if he cheated on a wife. He's lowered my taxes. Obama screwed up health care worse than it already was. I don't care if trump tweets his displeasure over some other politician. Obama tweeted lie for years (keep you plan). Hell, I haven't even heard of a single dem complaining of unfair taxation or delays on 401c designations, unlike the previous administration that was weaponising the IRS.

I'm pretty sure they were doing this way back with "Welcome to Farmville" (it's an old FB game App that polluted your feeds everyday...

Exactly what marketing is all about...

Wrong my friend. Facebook's problem was not being vigilant enough to deny any GOP supporters from using the same system as the Dems did to help Obama get elected. The outrage isn't because of what was done, the outrage is because they did it better and more effectively than the Dems did.
The other issue is that it becomes a matter of national security. We need to know if our elections can be tampered with or even our society is being manipulated by creating vicious divides using existing political, religious, racial, etc. biases. This is pretty scary to read. First, this is American politics. Always has been. You can't win an election without convincing people there is a problem and that you're the one to solve it. Second, creating divides and exploiting them has been at the heart of liberal progressive politics for decades. It is the foundation of (group) identity politics.
What's scary is that you either fail to recognize this fact, or even worse recognize it and are ok with it because it's being used to achieve results you wish to see. But any hint of it in the opposition, well...now that is a national security issue. And how do we handle national security issues? More gov't intervention, control, restrictions, targeted laws, the application of force to ensure compliance, the skirting of Rights under the pretense of "exigency"....

For not caring about my opinion, you sure did write a whole lot.
You can’t even practice what you preach.
Snark.
At least you fit the mold of what i described. Keep winning over the masses with your intellectual reasoning Swish.
Did you become a conservative because you wanted a monopoly on snark? Calling people plebs is extremely inflammatory and really unbecoming.
Think about the word pleb, look up the definition. Re-evaluate what was said.
Blind partisanship is for plebs....on both sides, it is absolutely factual. If you find that to be inflammatory, I'm sorry but in my estimation it is an absolute fact. Anyone with a high school education can see that both sides are hypocritical and deluded.

Really? high schools are spending more time and resources on security, teaching our kids how to go into lockdown and arming their teaching staff with guns and ammo. Have you turned on any news this weekend. High schools students marching for their lives? They are seeing one side as hypocritical imo.

lol look at this elitist who watched Rome one time. If you knew anything about Plebis, then you would know they could not operate in the Senate at all. And while the ruling class finally allowed Plebs to have a legislative arm, all motions ended up being decided by the Senate. Plebeian law was only enforced on plebs and not patricians, so it really didn't matter for the Senate to approve laws. Finally, if you looked at which people had the most plebeian support, it's the Gracchi brothers and Julius Caesar. If you weren't supporting either of them, then you probably weren't think or was a member of the patrician.
I get that you're hurt because the other side called you names or your friend names. But calling people plebs is such poor show. We get it, you're an elitist and anyone who thinks differently from you is a lowly commoner who isn't thinking for themselves, because if they were thinking for themselves they would have your views and not their own.
Vers I understand your message. I just don't think that a utopian effort to right the wrongs is ever going to happen in our lifetimes. Right now the world is split into many factions, many beliefs, and many tribes. Our leaders are using divides to widen the gaps between us. The media does the same. The internet does the same. Our Peers do the same. It's systemic.
Compromise is a dirty word. However compromise is the only non-violent way forward in my opinion. But before there can be compromise, there must be definition of the beliefs, definition of the factions, and definition of the tribes. That's where we are now, sorting all that out. Who's right, who's wrong, who's willing to change, who's going to be left behind... scary stuff, but maybe necessary. Time will tell.
Working together towards a better country sounds wonderful. Here's the problem:
More than half of this country truly believes that a misogynist, racist, childish, buffoon was elected president and it pisses them off. And they can't talk to the people who even thought about voting for that man, because the hatred boils over. In past elections, they didn't like the Republican candidate who won, but it wasn't like this. This time, they're all missing the days when the worst it got was George W. Bush.
So when they can't respect the President as a human being, and can't understand why any other human would vote for him to lead them, they therefore will not respect those humans who voted for him. It's a simple equation really.
When the person places their vote for such an individual, they no longer have any credibility left.
And that's just how I feel. So while I think working together would be the smart thing to do, I ask how? How can you work with someone you absolutely hate the very core of???
If someone can figure that out, let me know. I'll take the advice.

You assume that because I used the term "They" that I'm not a lefty. Hasn't anyone ever told you what happens when you assume?
I'm a lefty, and proud of it. I am lumped into "They".
And I do have thick skin. Unlike our President.

i knew you was cool when you described what trump was.

and there you are proving what he said. Just because I agreed with some of his points, you automatically make it "us vs them". Once again proving what he said, that the majority of the left could care less about actual facts and points, and only care to hear what they themselves have to say. Sad world you live you. sad.

It's hard to take the position of President serious when I saw a campaign of ruthless name calling and personal attacks. Not to mention threats of political imprisonment and a history of undermining the legitimacy of the previous President. The standards of decency have really dropped in the position.
