Orange County votes to fight California's sanctuary city laws, joining sheriff's pushback

The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to join the U.S. Justice Department's lawsuit, which argued three recent California laws deliberately interfered with federal immigration policies.

One of the laws bars police in many cases from turning over suspects to federal immigration agents for deportation.

"This legislation prevents law enforcement from removing criminals from our community and is a threat to public safety," Supervisor Shawn Nelson said before the vote.

The county moved earlier this week to improve communication with federal immigration agents by publishing the release dates of inmates online. The sheriff's department used to screen inmates in the county's jails to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents identify those subject to deportation but had to stop after the state law passed.

I lived in California for awhile when I was a kid. There were a lot of regular people there then. I would guess there are still quite a few. I don't know where all the wackos came from?

Did you know that three illegal immigrants, who avoided capture after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf blew the whistle on a raid by federal immigration authorities last month, have since been re-arrested for new crimes including robbery and spousal abuse, ICE officials said.

New California declares 'independence' from California in bid to become 51st state

The founders of New California took an early step toward statehood Monday with the reading of their own Declaration of Independence from California, a state they describe as "ungovernable."

Their solution: Take over most of current-day California — including many rural counties — and leave the coastal urban areas to themselves.

"The current state of California has become governed by a tyranny," the group, led in part by vice chairman Robert Paul Preston, declared in a document published online.

"After years of over taxation, regulation, and mono-party politics the State of California and many of it’s 58 Counties have become ungovernable," the group said in a statement, citing a "decline in essential basic services" including education, law enforcement, infrastructure and health care.

What we need is a coherent policy that we can all live by. The mess that we have not is the reason for the divide. We are over 30 years of silliness and maybe we can get some reasonable change.

Sanctuary cities go against federal law. It's really just that simple. The federal government should take them to court and be able to stop federal dollars from going to those cities.

It's not any different from states legalizing pot when it's against federal law. Things will soon come to a bloody head when the federal start to flex it's muscle at all these states that are in open rebellion to federal laws. There really isn't any other way to settle it. The fed is going to have to establish its authority at some point or the United States will cease to be one country and instead 50 countries who have a treaty with each other.

Federal Law HAS to be enforced or you just don't have a government with any real authority.

It seems to me this current atmosphere of defying Federal Law began with allowing illegals to enter the Country unchecked, followed by the defiance over Pot with the lack of Federal response.
Now, sanctuary Cities, followed by a sanctuary State of California.

Give em an inch and there goes the mile.

And it has to be very smart and judicious in how it exercises/enforces that law, lest our govt start looking like Putin's. Or Kim's. Or Xi's. Or Bashar's.

A 'sticky wicket,' indeed-

Go in too heavy-handed, and you lose the optics. Law enforcement get painted as jack-booted thugs running roughshod over out-manned states.

Go in too soft, and there's no teeth in your stance. Status quo is the final result.

This would take smarts and finesse to do right.

That's because your overriding talent is cherry-picking.

I'm roughly the same age as you, but I can trace this streak of defiance back much farther.

I distinctly remember a state's governor standing on the steps of a state capitol, shouting "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever..." in direct defiance of federal statutes.

And 100 years before that, 7 states seceded from the nation and declared war... in defiance of federal edict.

So, those were the first two I could think of, but there have been many, many more... since the dawn of this nation.

It's part of how we've always navigated the democratic process- and it'll keep happening. Sometimes, the defiance is supported by you. Sometimes, it's supported by me. And... sometimes, it's supported by you and me.

The courts will be involved. So will legislature. That's how it's always worked.

I know. I have no problem with everyone having a visa and more types of visas. But the goverment holds on to them like golden tickets. You should not be here for any length of time without one. Now I do have a problem with the goverment making up then abandoning DACA, and kicking those who made the US home out because we set lax rules to begin with.

Yes, most everyone wants a settlement of the DACA issue with some kind of citizenship available, whether it be immediate or over a period of years.

I think the numbers are like in the mid 80 percentile.

Sure there is. The Federal Government could make pot legal. Problem solved.

Or at least make it schedule 2. No reason why marijuana should be treated as a more harmful drug than cocaine. It's mind boggling that the Federal government has still not recognized any of the medicinal uses of marijuana.

Homeless residents brag about makeshift 'mansion' near Seattle's famed Space Needle

Residents of the mega tent "mansion" homeless encampment near Seattle's famed Space Needle are bragging about the practicality of their new digs, taunting local politicians: "If you can live on the street and not pay rent, then why would you pay rent?"

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/04/09/hom...ace-needle.html

These things show you the greatness of Liberals running things.

Yes these despicable homeless people need to pay property taxes! How lazy! Turning America into a crap hole...

I wonder how many people are willingly homeless? I mean they have a great job, good credit, decent healthcare, and a home; then just decide they will be homeless...? GMAB

Homelessness is growing and it is a sign of the times where the 1% have it all and the bottom fights for scraps. Most jobs don't pay a living wage and when people are forced to choose between rent, food, and medicine... food will always come first, medicine next (if they can), rent last.

But Donald is on the job and we all know he loves homeless people.

Give it a rest. Here in lancaster, less than three miles from my home there is a homeless camp. Some died there over this winter.

Every major city has homeless people. EVERY MAJOR CITY.

It's not political at all. Homelessness is an economic and mental health issue. It's not partisan. You are deplorable, that's partisan.

Deplorable are the conditions regular people suffer at the hands of the Liberal/Socialist Agenda.
Partisan reflects on the fact that most of these cities and states are run by Liberal/Socialists.

The rest of the citizenry suffers as you come for more and more of their money to pay for your failed policies.

A drop in the bucket. The middle class pays for all of the GOP failed policies. Failed trickle down and 2 wars charged to Uncle Sams credit card. With another war on the horizon with Syria, that BTW still haven't been accounted for. While the rich get handed more tax cuts. Thanks GOP!

Another California City Joins Trump Admin in Opposing State's Sanctuary Law

The Santa Clarita city council on Tuesday voted to oppose California’s “sanctuary state” law and to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state.

City council members voted 5-0 to officially oppose Senate Bill 54, which limits cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.

Multiple California cities and counties have opposed the bill -- which was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown (D) in October 2017 -- but Santa Clarita is the first city in Los Angeles County to do so.
