Josh Rosen - QB - Player
Profootballtalk reports UCLA QB Josh Rosen isn't attempting to avoid the Browns in the draft. There's been chatter for months that Rosen will try to force his way around the Browns, but he doesn't have many options. The quarterback-desperate franchise owns the first and fourth picks. Were they to draft Rosen and he were dead set against playing for them, his only recourse would be sitting out a year and re-entering the 2019 draft. That will not happen.

Yea.. I agree. Who wants a thinker and student of the game that constantly questions why things are done a certain way.. Reminds me of Peyton Manning and who needs that crap.

Mora was on today. He attempted to clarify.
As I stated. He planned his response. He told Rosen what he was going to say.
So the Browns can not intellectually challenge Rosen?
And New York can? Interesting. Maybe Mora believes Haslam, Hue, Haley, maybe all of them together is not a "fit" for Rosen?
I don't think that their preference could be any clearer.

To me Mora with the compliance of Rosen are trying to make a cheezy move.
They want to play for a New York team but are trying to camouflage it so as not to appear so under "good fit".
Mora saying he is the bets player but Darnold fits better in Cleveland. If he is the best player he can fit anywhere.
I don't like this move. I like Rosen. I want him to be evaluated cleanly with zero prejudice. If they don't select him I want it to be for proper reasons not this BS.

It's the NFL Draft. The ball is heavily in our court, not Rosen's. Doesn't really matter if Josh doesn't want to come here. He can learn to like it as far as I'm concerned. We got him for five years on a rookie contract. Then, we can franchise him and make it six. We can franchise him again if needed too, make it seven.

Of course we are in control and can force the issue.
And maybe we will. But they are trying to send a message.
And I believe it will be a factor. I doubt that Rosen is a consensus pick within the Browns.
This may not be a deal killer but it doesn't help.

People are too busy reading tea leaves and trying to read things into comments without actually reporting or listening to the player himself..... Michael Silver of the NFL Network on Feb. 27 refuted that report by quoting Rosen in a tweet issued by Silver. “I’ve never said anything about not wanting to play in Cleveland,” Silver quoted Rosen telling him, and added the quote: “There’s absolutely no foundation in reality in that (report).” Silver also tweeted Rosen plans to tell Browns General Manager John Dorsey at the Combine that he would be happy to play for the Browns, who were 0-16 in 2017, 1-15 in 2016 and have started 28 quarterbacks in 19 years. http://www.news-herald.com/article/HR/20180227/SPORTS/180229504

Ignoring, for a moment, of the stupidity behind Rosen being a fit in NY but not Cleveland...
As far as the fit "argument" goes, and intellectually challenging Rosen, isn't Haley a perfect fit for that? Isn't his deal that he never actually played the game, but he's studied football offenses and being a student of the game propelled him to being an OC? Wouldn't that be perfect for intellectually challenging a QB?
I feel like I'm missing something here.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

This not about then. It is about now.
Not tea leaves. Actual staged comments made where to draft Rosen from him and his coach.
Mora admitted talking to Rosen before making the comments.
So this not about imagined.
Take it as you will.

People are too busy reading tea leaves and trying to read things into comments without actually reporting or listening to the player himself..... lol, you can't get over the tea leave thing that I said a few weeks ago. Although you notice, Hue told all the players at the Pro-Days that Tyrod Taylor would be the QB of 2018. That's what he told them. So there might be some truth to what i said. And I'm not sure if this is clear or not, but i've never said that Josh doesn't want to come here. I mean, it looks like something he might have planned with Mora, but who knows. We'll figure it out at this visit coming up. But, even if he doesn't want to come here, it shouldn't matter much to us. Rosen's the top QB of the group. Barring some clear injury issue that showed up at the combine or some terrible deep secret in his past, I don't see why he wouldn't be the number 1 pick. The guy's money

j/c Jim Mora Says he was "in no way being negative" toward Josh RosenPosted by Mike Florio on April 3, 2018, 11:43 AM EDT In days and weeks preceding the draft, a prospect’s college coach is expected to be over-the-top in his praise of the player. Typically, it’s all taken with a grain of salt, because that’s what the coach is supposed to say. An assessment from a coach becomes noteworthy, then, when it’s anything but over the top. Enter the multiple statements made in recent days by former UCLA coach Jim Mora. They were far from over the top. Mora said that former USC quarterback Sam Darnold is a better fit than Rosen for the Browns. Mora told Peter King of SI.com that Rosen “needs to be challenged intellectually so he doesn’t get bored,” that “[h]e’s a millennial,” that “[h]e wants to know why,” that “Josh has a lot of interests in life,” and that “[i]f you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire.” Mora said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that “[i]f Josh manages his life off the football field and commits to being a great football player not just when he’s at the facility, but when he’s away from the facility, he is going to be amazingly successful.” Mora appeared on Tuesday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show to further elaborate on Rosen. This time around, Mora was far closer to being over-the-top in his praise. Mora also insisted that he’s been “really clear” and “really consistent” in his message about Rosen, and that his views should be regarded as “very, very complimentary” and “very, very positive.” “Things can be misrepresented at times when people decide to edit it a certain way,” Mora said. Mora went on to say that Rosen does indeed need to be challenged intellectually, but Mora said that’s not a bad thing. He compared Rosen to other cerebral quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, pointing out that former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison recently told Mora that Manning’s inquisitive nature routinely kept meetings going longer than they otherwise would have gone. “Josh loves football,” Mora said. “There’s been a question, ‘Does Josh love football?’ He loves football. He’s on record as saying, ‘If I didn’t love football, I wouldn’t play football.” Mora also said that Rosen has never indicated that he doesn’t want to play for the Browns, explaining that Rosen is a “competitor” who wants to be the first pick. “You want to be recognized as the best,” Mora said. Still, people will look at the full body of Mora’s comments and wonder whether the guy who coached him at UCLA truly does.

Look I don't want to beat this bloody.
Mora's comments were planned.
I don't see how it can not be interrupted any other way than their (preference)is to play in New York.
Not that he doesn't believe Rosen isn't the best. Or that he doesn't love football. He will not be bored as rookie trying to learn the NFL. I have never heard that Todd Haley is boring. Or that Rosen knows it all already and needs to intellectually challenged means nothing to me.
They are trying to walk a thin line of diplomacy. Say the right things and try to get to New York.

What we have to be sure of...is not of course the draft and the first contract. But will he be the kind of player to want to make the Browns his home for his career. Will we be able to sign him to the 2nd contract???
He's a liberal, check NY/NJ. He will have a platform with a gazillion media outlets. If its a soapbox he wants he wants NY...Question would be does NY want him....I think either way he will be on Giants or Jets.
If we take Mayfield, will Giants take Darnold, got a feeling they will. But Jets would definitely take Rosen.
This is a great QB draft class. Why I say things are falling in place for us. Usually with the Overall #1 pick its a sucky draft class like last year. Trib the first QB taken last year probably would be around the 5th QB taken in this draft.
Finally we are in the right place at the right time and how good was that trade with Texans that we took a lot of heat for last year. Not only will we get the 1st shot at QB but probably also the first positional player as well with great talent there not some high risk guys.
Things are finally falling in place for us!
Its been a long time coming. Go Browns! woof! woof!! woof!!!

I can see how you can think that, I do not understand how you can be so definitive. That is probably because I have seen Jim Mora the last several years at UCLA. He is an idiot who doesn’t know what he is saying most of the time. Thus the further explanation of his comments three different times.

Don't make stuff up on my opinion.
I didn't make the theme of Rosen being a better fit for NY.
What I did state and you seemed to glide by it cause of course you are pimping him.
Is will we be able to sign the 2nd contract where the choice becomes his?
That would be such a shame finally get the franchise QB and then he gains his freedom and goes elsewhere? It is something that we have to think about. That my friend is something I am putting into the pot of yea and nay.
Cause I personally think there are 3 QBs in this draft that will have great careers. Which ever Dorsey takes is fine with me. Its not my way or the highway. But if Rosen is not comfortable making the Browns his home, we have to be careful about that 2nd contract. I personally could give two dinks about his politics. That was me just wondering where HE WOULD FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE.
So not basing talent on politics. I'm not that shallow...Hal.

The statements were clearly planned ahead if time. mora himself said he talked to rosen in advance about it. There us no question there.
How to interpret those statements is wide open and can be significant more multiple different reasons ir completely irrelevant.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Then what are you worried about. I am a human being who would like to look into that 2nd contract. If the kid is giving all indications that he will go FA and we get nothing. I get it, this is your guy to pimp. Its something you wish to brush under the rug. But it is something to think about.
You can ignore it if you wish. I choose to ponder about it a bit. You will deny me that option?

But there's ZERO evidence this is the case. Zero.
I'll deny people just making up BS to push a false narrative. Let me ask you a question. What indications do you have that ANY of the top choices at QB will sign a second contract with us?

Another one with this BS link stuff.
Look if you don't know or read that Rosen made an anti Trump remark then so be it.
Look if you wish to ignore this entire 2 pages of Mora and what he MEANT to say. Go right ahead. No evidence? Then please delete the 2 pages of no evidence I been reading. Look just cause you put your head in the sand and say...nope I don't see it. Go right ahead. If there are 3 who are neck to neck then it is something to look at. Who is more apt to be a Browns FOREVER??? Why not look at it. Oh right, it don't come up looking good for Rosen. I got it.

Along with the #23 they just picked up, they also have the following: •Round 1, Pick 31 (31st overall) - Assigned Selection •Round 2, Pick 11 (43rd overall) - From San Francisco* •Round 2, Pick 31 (63rd overall) - Assigned Selection •Round 3, Pick 31 (95th overall) - Assigned Selection •Round 4, Pick 36 (136th overall) - Compensatory •Round 6, Pick 36 (2010th overall) - From Oakland •Round 7, Pick 1 (219th overall) - From Cleveland http://www.patriots.com/news/2018/02/26/patriots-2018-nfl-draft-statusMaybe if they pull a Ditka / Ricky Williams and send their whole draft. Or they might have to throw in Gronk, too. Or maybe BB is just trying to replace Nate Solder.

You do understand the question you're asking holds true for anyone we may draft, right? Miss Cleo, is that you? I'd agree with that. People change. In five years his opinion could totally change. Not only that, but bad things happen. And you offer him a contract before his rookie contract runs out, and it's pretty enticing. Especially after you see what happened to Teddy Bridgewater.

Benjamin Allbright ‏ Verified account @AllbrightNFL Just got a text about the Patriots and interest in Josh Rosen... whew. This has to be smoke, right? The price would be insane. Firstly, they'd have to move to #2 (It seems almost certain that Darnold will be a Brown) because both New York teams are primed to take a QB at #2 and #3. Secondly, there is also rumors the Bills are "desperate" to trade up for a QB. They only have McCarron, and they've got a serious ammunition advantage over New England - unless the Patriots want to add players, but I see that as unlikely as their highest value players (Brady, Gronk) are talking retirement. Unless, of course, we've all greatly underestimated the value of these quarterbacks, and Rosen is assumed to be falling further than predicted. I'm not denying the interest in Rosen, I just don't see how the Patriots have any real shot at moving up to get him.

Their way would be more like, Mason Rudolph and develop him. What is the real kicker is that we're getting linked to Josh Allen lately and the Patriots are linked to Josh Rosen now. I mean, jesus christ. If that's not a big red flag, nothing is.
