Josh Rosen - QB - Player

Profootballtalk reports UCLA QB Josh Rosen isn't attempting to avoid the Browns in the draft.
There's been chatter for months that Rosen will try to force his way around the Browns, but he doesn't have many options. The quarterback-desperate franchise owns the first and fourth picks. Were they to draft Rosen and he were dead set against playing for them, his only recourse would be sitting out a year and re-entering the 2019 draft. That will not happen.

Mora saying he needs to be intellectually challenged says alot.

Yea.. I agree. Who wants a thinker and student of the game that constantly questions why things are done a certain way.. Reminds me of Peyton Manning and who needs that crap.

It's the NFL Draft. The ball is heavily in our court, not Rosen's.

Doesn't really matter if Josh doesn't want to come here. He can learn to like it as far as I'm concerned.

We got him for five years on a rookie contract. Then, we can franchise him and make it six. We can franchise him again if needed too, make it seven.

People are too busy reading tea leaves and trying to read things into comments without actually reporting or listening to the player himself.....

Michael Silver of the NFL Network on Feb. 27 refuted that report by quoting Rosen in a tweet issued by Silver.

“I’ve never said anything about not wanting to play in Cleveland,” Silver quoted Rosen telling him, and added the quote: “There’s absolutely no foundation in reality in that (report).”

Silver also tweeted Rosen plans to tell Browns General Manager John Dorsey at the Combine that he would be happy to play for the Browns, who were 0-16 in 2017, 1-15 in 2016 and have started 28 quarterbacks in 19 years.

Ignoring, for a moment, of the stupidity behind Rosen being a fit in NY but not Cleveland...

As far as the fit "argument" goes, and intellectually challenging Rosen, isn't Haley a perfect fit for that? Isn't his deal that he never actually played the game, but he's studied football offenses and being a student of the game propelled him to being an OC? Wouldn't that be perfect for intellectually challenging a QB?

I feel like I'm missing something here.

I honestly don't think both Haslam and Woody will sign on the Rosen draft...

lol, you can't get over the tea leave thing that I said a few weeks ago. Although you notice, Hue told all the players at the Pro-Days that Tyrod Taylor would be the QB of 2018. That's what he told them. So there might be some truth to what i said.


And I'm not sure if this is clear or not, but i've never said that Josh doesn't want to come here. I mean, it looks like something he might have planned with Mora, but who knows. We'll figure it out at this visit coming up.

But, even if he doesn't want to come here, it shouldn't matter much to us. Rosen's the top QB of the group. Barring some clear injury issue that showed up at the combine or some terrible deep secret in his past, I don't see why he wouldn't be the number 1 pick.

Jim Mora Says he was "in no way being negative" toward Josh Rosen

In days and weeks preceding the draft, a prospect’s college coach is expected to be over-the-top in his praise of the player. Typically, it’s all taken with a grain of salt, because that’s what the coach is supposed to say.

An assessment from a coach becomes noteworthy, then, when it’s anything but over the top. Enter the multiple statements made in recent days by former UCLA coach Jim Mora. They were far from over the top.

Mora said that former USC quarterback Sam Darnold is a better fit than Rosen for the Browns. Mora told Peter King of SI.com that Rosen “needs to be challenged intellectually so he doesn’t get bored,” that “[h]e’s a millennial,” that “[h]e wants to know why,” that “Josh has a lot of interests in life,” and that “[i]f you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire.” Mora said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that “[i]f Josh manages his life off the football field and commits to being a great football player not just when he’s at the facility, but when he’s away from the facility, he is going to be amazingly successful.”

Mora appeared on Tuesday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show to further elaborate on Rosen. This time around, Mora was far closer to being over-the-top in his praise. Mora also insisted that he’s been “really clear” and “really consistent” in his message about Rosen, and that his views should be regarded as “very, very complimentary” and “very, very positive.”

“Things can be misrepresented at times when people decide to edit it a certain way,” Mora said.

Mora went on to say that Rosen does indeed need to be challenged intellectually, but Mora said that’s not a bad thing. He compared Rosen to other cerebral quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, pointing out that former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison recently told Mora that Manning’s inquisitive nature routinely kept meetings going longer than they otherwise would have gone.

“Josh loves football,” Mora said. “There’s been a question, ‘Does Josh love football?’ He loves football. He’s on record as saying, ‘If I didn’t love football, I wouldn’t play football.”

Mora also said that Rosen has never indicated that he doesn’t want to play for the Browns, explaining that Rosen is a “competitor” who wants to be the first pick.

“You want to be recognized as the best,” Mora said.

Still, people will look at the full body of Mora’s comments and wonder whether the guy who coached him at UCLA truly does.

If you base talent on someone's politics you'll lose every time.

I can see how you can think that, I do not understand how you can be so definitive. That is probably because I have seen Jim Mora the last several years at UCLA. He is an idiot who doesn’t know what he is saying most of the time. Thus the further explanation of his comments three different times.

The statements were clearly planned ahead if time. mora himself said he talked to rosen in advance about it. There us no question there.

How to interpret those statements is wide open and can be significant more multiple different reasons ir completely irrelevant.

But you are trying to look five years into the future to question what a player will do then. Guess what? If we're winning he'll be glad to be here.

You do understand the question you're asking holds true for anyone we may draft, right? Miss Cleo, is that you?

But there's ZERO evidence this is the case. Zero.

I'll deny people just making up BS to push a false narrative. Let me ask you a question. What indications do you have that ANY of the top choices at QB will sign a second contract with us?

Just got a text about the Patriots and interest in Josh Rosen... whew.

Pats now have two firsts and two seconds after the Cooks trade.

Wonder how they think they'll get from #23 to #2?

I don't know. Possibly trading a player to go with the picks?

Along with the #23 they just picked up, they also have the following:

Maybe if they pull a Ditka / Ricky Williams and send their whole draft. Or they might have to throw in Gronk, too. Or maybe BB is just trying to replace Nate Solder.

I'd agree with that. People change. In five years his opinion could totally change.

Not only that, but bad things happen. And you offer him a contract before his rookie contract runs out, and it's pretty enticing. Especially after you see what happened to Teddy Bridgewater.

This has to be smoke, right? The price would be insane.

Firstly, they'd have to move to #2 (It seems almost certain that Darnold will be a Brown) because both New York teams are primed to take a QB at #2 and #3.

Secondly, there is also rumors the Bills are "desperate" to trade up for a QB. They only have McCarron, and they've got a serious ammunition advantage over New England - unless the Patriots want to add players, but I see that as unlikely as their highest value players (Brady, Gronk) are talking retirement.

Unless, of course, we've all greatly underestimated the value of these quarterbacks, and Rosen is assumed to be falling further than predicted.

I'm not denying the interest in Rosen, I just don't see how the Patriots have any real shot at moving up to get him.

Not only that, but I just don't see them doing this. It's not the Patriot way.

Their way would be more like, Mason Rudolph and develop him.


What is the real kicker is that we're getting linked to Josh Allen lately and the Patriots are linked to Josh Rosen now. I mean, jesus christ. If that's not a big red flag, nothing is.

Yeah I don't see it either. Buffalo has so much more to offer in any trade scenario ... unless Belichick is part of the deal?

I would think Billy would look at a QB like White ..
