I want to get my hubby a gift certificate to get a back massage. He keeps injuring his back at work and since his birthday is coming up I was thinking about getting him a gift certificate for a massage. IF it's a man doing it he will NOT go. I know him!
Just wondered if any guys went for a back massage and liked it. Should I get it for him?

He'll like it, and it's not a "sexual" thing at all. However, if his back hurts, he may be like me.........I can't lay on my back for more than 20 seconds without having immenxe pain........he's probably different, though.

Lisa, my best guess is that 35-40% of my clients are men at the spa. No matter how nervous they are about massage when they come in, they love it when they leave.

Why not get it for him and let him try it out? You could probably even find a place that does Couples Massage and you could both be in the same room.

I have been going to a massotherapist for years now... she is amazing I have a lot of lower back pain b/c of some bulging disc that just wont heal. It is well worth the money. I usually try to go once a month. It also is a great stress reliever. I would highly reccomend it. I would be really uncomfortable if a guy gave me a massage especially since it is supposed to be relaxing and I just don't think I could be relaxed with a guy rubbing his meat claws on me

I have gone a couple times as gifts from my wife and LOVED it. It's so relaxing- you don't want it to end. I would say to do it without a doubt. Very good gift idea.

Btw, I will let anyone give me a massage...male or female. It's so worth it. And, if there's nothing sexual about it why do guys care if they have a male Massage Therapist?

Regardless, I still say JUST DO IT!

Hank gets them all the time....... same thing though, only girls. Funny he won't let me get one from a guy though.

We have a massage table at our NJ house, it was a Christmas gift for me, from Hank...... so I could be more comfortable while giving him massages. Nice.

I would definitly do it. Just make sure they have someone there that does a good deep tissue massage if he has back problems. I would suggest also doing a pedicure for him. I took Hank once and he was hooked. I mean he only goes if I ask him if he wants to go, but he loves it. That would be a nice thing to do together. THe place near me does a couples pedicure with wine/champagne.. haven't done it yet though.

Alright enough of my babbling.
After this camp is over I will need a massage. I miss my helper.

I have a great male massage therapist at my place. He used to work with the Browns, now the Cavs. One of the best in the area, and I can assure you, if LeBron goes to him, than many other guys really don't care. Massotherapy is great, regardless of the sex of the therapist - as long as you have a good, State-certified therapist.

PA doesn't have license requirements -- that's why I moved back home from Philly to go to school. Just be sure they have some schooling, BG. Anyone can hang a shingle and say they do massage.

As a man, I can tell you this. If ANYONE can give me a good professional massage, I really don't care if their male of female. It's a theraputic thing, not a sexual thing. I don't think he will mind either way, but there are exceptions.

Massage is great, but a one day thing is just a start. It can be contagious. I was lucky enough to have a pro in the staff when I played foot ball, he was a short heavy guy, but it didn't make much difference, he was good, and he really helped with a chronic obliques problem.

I bought my hubby his first massage, he loved it. He even had a male therapist. Since then, he's had a female therapist and REALLY liked how she worked him over. She really got into his hip and lower back. So now he goes to her all the time.

I think he will enjoy it. And you should join him too!

I have only had female. It just worked out that way, but the second one that I had was great. She was able to massage pretty deep. I had a LOT of knots in my back, and didn't have nearly as much tenseness as I normally had for about a year afterwards.

Michelle, I have a lot of problems with muscle spasms in my lower back. Aligning my spine is useless because the muscles just push it out of place. Would massages help something like this at all?

Well, you are correct about the muscles pulling you back out of place...and it certainly couldn't hurt to try massage. It won't happen overnight, but I'll bet your back didn't get screwy overnight either. Give it several REGULAR sessions to see how you feel.

Do it, it's amazing . I don't know what I'm going to do with myself here after next week. My job pays for someone to come in twice a week to do it onsite. It usually takes about every two weeks to cycle through everyone. Sadly though, next Thursday is my last day because it's time to move up to Montana.

Here's what you do...keep getting them on your own. Do you get chair massage at work?

Pdawg...no, not supposed to be in California. That's next week.

shadow for me it's a comfort thing... I just am not comfortable with a guy touching me especially when I'm trying to relax. It's not like im homophobic or anything I just feel more relaxed when I female is touching me then a male.

LOL...which is somehow sexual in your mind. Massage is about so much more than what gender is touching you. But, you're not alone in your feelings...many men feel the same way. Most women will allow either gender to massage them (unless they are uncomfortable with a guy for deeper reasons).

I'll bet you would think nothing of having a male doctor or physical therapist, eh?

Look at it this way.....you can use it if he doesn't.

My wife gave me a certificate a couple of years ago for a massage knowing darn good and well I wasn't going have some stranger rub my back.

That reminds me, her BD is in a few days.....better go pick her up a gift certificate for a chainsaw.

UNREAL. Please don't bring up fake massage B.S. on a thread discussing Massage Therapy. It's not even similar.

Nope, they have the bench to lay down flat to do a full body massage. She is certified and will do whatever we want or ask for. On those days, a particular room is dedicated just for that. We have extreme downtime at work. We usually get paid for 8.5 hours (9 hour day) and only actually work about 4. Thus there is plenty of time.

I've had massages from both sexes. I actually prefer the male as he concentrated on the areas that needed work.

If I could afford it I'd get a daily massage. 45-60 min will relax the tightest of muscles.
I can't even afford monthly

Make sure they are a Certified Massage Therapist

actually, believe it or not... I don't have a male doctor either. I think for me it is honestly a trust issue. I don't trust guys at all. All my friends are women and all my dr dentis massage therapist and everything professional like that are women.
