Now that's an interesting development .

Grandstanding...must be up for election.

She just won her seat like 3 months ago.

Her next election will be in 2.5+ years.

Not wanting to waste money on the whims of an imbecile is hardly grandstanding, especially in a state with several possible actual needs for the National Guard.

Trump should Federalize the Oregon National Guard and order them to arrest the Governor.

This week in "40 Doesn't Understand the Meaning of Basic Words or Phrases".

Nope, she won a special election in 2016 to complete the 4 year term. She is be up for re-election this year.

And to fish, I wouldn't call it grandstanding, she doesn't agree with the use of Oregon National Guard (if the request is made) resources for border control. What will be interesting to see is how the request of these resources are made.

edit: I'm guessing 40 means federalize instead of nationalize. In other words Title 10 Active Duty (though arresting the governor won't happen)

The 2018 Oregon gubernatorial election will take place on November 6, 2018, in order to elect the Governor of Oregon. The person elected will serve a full four-year term, after the 2016 special election, where Governor Kate Brown was elected to serve the last two years of a four-year term.

Deep down Trump is a very weak and cowardly man, and it's clear that there's a hole in his soul that leaks the possibility of fulfillment.

He needs constant attention and validation, and will absolutely debase himself if it draws eyes.

He never wanted to be president. He wanted to lose and become a talk show host, where he could rant to a sympathetic echo chamber.

When he won the job, he was unprepared for the fact-checking that never applied to a bombastic moron game show host/real estate developer.

He's said as much in several interviews - that he thought winning the job would bring him admiration. He resented the admiration (I think undeserved, you disagree) Obama got, and thought becoming president would afford him the same. He was truly unprepared for the crack to the jaw that was people seeing him as the same dumb clown he always was. He thought the office would erase that, and it didn't.

Like it or not, he made a reasonable offer for the DACA people during the SOTU, they should’ve used that as a starting point and gone from there.

I'm a fan of Kate Brown. She became Governor under unusual circumstances. She was the Secretary of State when our previous Governor stepped down amidst a scandal. She was then elected in 2016 to continue serving the four years and will run as full term Gov in 2018. Given the politics in Oregon (as explained in, curiously enough, the 'Roseanne' thread), I don't see anybody realistically getting in her way.

So Trump becomes the 3rd president in a row to send national guard troops to the Mexican border (Bush 2 and Obama both did as well)... sure wish I had the time to go back and see what some of the longer standing politicians said about the first two...

They'll all say it was a lame effort to raise their approval ratings for midterm elections. It didn't end well.

I've already pointed that out but it seems nobody is interested. From everything I've gathered Bush sent 6,000 and Obama sent 1,200. The last request I heard Trump wants to send 4,000. Right in the middle of the two.

And the mission of the National Guard will be exactly the same as it was under Bush and Obama. They will not actually engage in arrests or the apprehension of illegals.

Are you sure? From what I read yesterday, they had the number of arrests the troops made as well as the quantities of drugs they seized.

I just know this this was widely reported. Hey, none of us really know what's true anymore. Not until after it happens. And even then it depends in large part who you listen to.

They cant actually patrol the border or make arrests or really do anything outside of admin stuff ...

They do the admin stuff freeing up the border patrol agents to go patrol ... more boots on the ground because of them ... just not their boots ...

Here’s what i dont get ...

All were allowed to do is catch and release ... until we can at least catch and detain until deportation ... i’m not sure what good this is actually doing ....

My man’s doing something ... other than doing something for the sake of doing something .... i’m not exactly sure what it accomplishes ...

Ok but these folks are mostly being caught within a short distance of the border.. sad to say but it's a game of red rover on the border.

And I don't know how long you want to detain them but think about that number.. 50,000 in a month.. where do you detain them, how do you do it without creating a humanitarian crisis? how much would that cost? Heck, odds are we would end up giving them better accommodations and food than they had when they left.. you'd have them coming across the border trying to get caught just for a nice week in confinement and a few free meals.
