Having already sent DeShone Kizer to Green Bay for defensive back Damarious Randall and Cody Kessler to Jacksonville for a conditional seventh-rounder, the Browns have now cleared the decks from last year, which seems reasonable. They’ve already acquired Tyrod Taylor in another deal and signed backup Drew Stanton, to go with whatever fortunate soul gets picked first overall. In Washington, Hogan joins Colt McCoy and Stephen Morris behind starter Alex Smith. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/04/06/browns-trade-kevin-hogan-to-washington/

So we gain 17 spots in the 6th. Worth it. He was not making the roster.

yeah, i'm surprised we got that
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Seems like more of the same plan that the Browns tried 3 years ago when Hue arrived. First thing they did was get rid of all the previous years quarterbacks and bring in RG3, and drafted Kessler in the 3rd.
Not to say it won't work, but it's not developing what you've got and getting more out of it.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Other than DK there really wasn't much to develop. The QB we draft in 3 weeks will be the one to develop and bring along slowly so as not to make the same mistake again.

Well...value-wise we got more out of Hogan than Kessler (it was a conditional 7th in 2019 if I remember correctly), so there's that.
But, really...Drew Stanton? Why did we sign him to begin with? Cleveland, sadly, needs our 3rd string QB's...

I think it's just getting rid of folks that have too much bad history so the QB room can start fresh. Plus they both had chances and did nothing with it.

Veterans with Stanton and Taylor. Come hell or high water, the rookie won't be starting.

I could be mistaken, but I think Stanton's job, aside from backing up Taylor, is to be the rookie's private mentor. So who would you rather have in that role, Stanton with 8 yrs experience in the league, 38 games/17 starts, and an 11-6 record, or Hogan with 2 year in the league, 8 games/1 start, and a 0-1 record?

2017 - Deshone Kizer, Kevin Kessler, Kevin Hogan
2018 - Tyrod Taylor, Drew Stanton, (Rosen,Darnold, or Allen)
I think we finally have a FO that understands the importance of the QB position.

Indeed, keeping the rookie 3rd string for development purposes doesn't mean the top two quarterbacks won't be injured, but it's the deepest he can be stashed without overdoing it on the QB depth.
With any luck, we'll be okay. Then again, luck has literally never been on our side. I don't think we've so much as had a single bounce go our way in twenty years.

They can still keep a 4th QB on the practice squad and activate him if Taylor gets injured. Or maybe Clipboard Jesus is still available. The problem would arise if Taylor then Stanton get hurt in the same game.

I would guess Dorsey/Jackson/Haley will have to prepare themselves for the possibility that a next-man-up situation could occur. There is only so much talent available for the rookie to sit behind.

I'm all for letting whoever we pick sit but if has to play, he better be as ready as he can. If he looks like Manziel did when he finally started against Cincy, we are truly cursed. Rookie needs to prepare as if he will start. Every week. I would also expect a #1 pick to be able to at least manage the game for us if needed. I think our expectations are so low given what we have seen. I'd expect a Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield to come in and provide better play than anything we saw last year, Day 1.

Hue doesn't know anything about quarterbacks though. Glad Kizer is gone! Good luck Kevin!

They weren't what we needed, when we needed it, but I wish them all well and hope they find a lasting position on another team.

It's not like they will have to drive for UPS or work in a factory. 2nd and 3rd string QBs make good money. They can live a really plush life if they utilize the money wisely. How hard is it to stand on the sidelines on Sundays?

I don't find it all that amazing that I'm wishing someone well, regardless of their personal situation. They are no longer with our team, so I wish them well, in whatever position they end up in. Their personal finances are no concern of mine and do not factor into my sentiment towards them.

The very fact that they are even in the NFL means that they are highly privileged. God bless them and God bless you and your family. Go Browns!

I wish him luck. Hue didn't do him any favors. Hope he gets to play some. And he will be able to say he split time in the NFL with Colt McCoy, a man I still respect. Good luck.

Why Stanton?
1. You tell me where some of the smartest QBs have come from lately.Cousins, Hoyer n Stanton. Talent? Not much but football intelligence, plenty.
2. TT is here to start, he wont have too much time to Mentor our overall #1 pick. Guess who will, Stanton.
3. Stanton isnt here to play n win. He is here to be attached to the hip of our Franchise QB!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

As they should be the Browns are all in on developing whoever we draft. Hogan would only serve as a distraction. You can't have multiple directions, this is why Kizer and Hogan had to go. All in on whoever it is, is the only way it will work.
Good to see they agree.

i think stanton has probably accepted his mentorship role way more than hogan would have (and is probably more capable of it)

We don't actually know that he will.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I think they explained exactly what his role would be and he agreed. He may have even sought them out for that role.

some teams have openings for their #2 or #3
Of course adding TT n Stanton and our immanent overall #1 pick QB.
Actually this is probably our best QB room since 99.
