http://rotoworld.comRyan Tucker-T- Browns Aug. 3 - 11:12 am et Browns right tackle Ryan Tucker will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for a violation of the NFL steroid policy. http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/08/cleveland_browns_tackle_ryan_t.htmlCleveland Browns tackle Ryan Tucker is suspended for violation of NFL steroid policy Posted by Tony Grossi August 03, 2007 11:04AM Browns right tackle Ryan Tucker will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for a violation of the NFL steroid policy Tucker will continue to practice with the team and will participate in preseason games, playing on the second and third units, according to head coach Romeo Crennel. The immediate plan is for Kevin Schaffer to move from left tackle to right tackle to replace Tucker and for top draft pick Joe Thomas to move into the starting job at left tackle. Crennel pointed out that if Kelly Butler proves to be a better right tackle, Schaffer could move back to the left side and continue to compete with Thomas. Crennel said that Tucker's status with the team would be re-evaluated after his suspension. Tucker left the team on two occasions last year for an undisclosed mental illness

Yep , it's being discussed in the Tucker thread..
Michael Reghi was at practice , and he said Rac had them gathered all around and Tucker admitted he was tested in the offseason..
Now it could have to do with the medications he's on.. I will give him the benefit of the doubt...either way he's out for 4 games.. Looks like Shaffer and Butler will get more reps there now..

WTF? Are they sure they have the right guy? Ok, time to move Shaffer over to right tackle at once!

http://browns.scout.com/2/664365.htmlIt's a rumor that has been going around for several weeks, and the Browns today confirmed that it is true. Right tackle Ryan Tucker will be suspended for four weeks, reportedly due to steroid use. Browns head coach Romeo Crennel informed the media this morning of the suspension, informing reporters that Tucker was "very disappointed" with the situation. Crennel also told reporters that Tucker has known about the situation for five days . The veteran tackle had the right to appeal, but has decided to forego that opportunity. Tucker's suspension takes effect during the first week of the season. He can continue to practice with the team and play during the pre-season, but will miss the team's first four regular season games.

No way... Did anyone else see him yesterday at camp, walking over to sign autographs? What a shock.
I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

Where the heck did this come from? Makes me wonder if this happened last year or this was going to happen last year and that is why he disappeared.
I HATE that the NFL keeps first offenses quiet for this same reason. We never know who is one step from being suspended.

Tucker you son of a .....
I'd bet that he probably lost size and strength dealing with the mental illness and needed/wanted to get back in shape quick so went on the crank.
I don't think this makes it excusable though. If you're a vet in this league, you should damn well know better.
I'm very disappointed in this and now have no problem if they axe Tucker. His mobility looked bad last year anyways.

WOW,, shocker,, I am wondering if the use of Steroids is in some way related to the situation he had last season.... Tucker is a cool guy with a clean record,, I'm betting he'll server the suspension and be back wtih the team in the 5th game,,,,,
I don't want to knock this guy,, like I said, he's always been clean so I wanna see how this shakes out before condeming him.

The way we tend to lose linemen to injury, I'm sure he'll be much needed in week 5, and I'm cautiously optimistic for Bentley at G in week 7.

Or possibly the other way around...he went into some sort of withdrawal after he tried to quit using the things.

well, that would be true IF the policy on steroids falls under the policy against substance abuse...i'm not sure whether it does, or whether performance-enhancing drugs have their own policy/repercussions...

I know I'm being a hypocrite, since I will be welcoming him back w/ open arms after the suspension, but right now, in ANGER, I say I wish he never came back.
He still has a little bit of mental illness left in him, that tiny amount we call STUPIDITY.

Good point peen...
Mental illness plus steroids... This is not an equation that adds up well here.
I saw in the other thread that there's something about it being a false-positive due to mental illness meds. I hope thats the case.
But if its not, I wouldn;t be surprised to see the Browns cut him loose.

No he had to change his meds after they made him have setbacks ...
Once more if it was due to the newer meds he should appeal it.. But if the roids were taken to get him in shape quicker, then he deserves his discipline..

If some sort of banned substance was prescribed as a viable, recognized treatment for his mental disorder, the NFL would grant a waiver.

totally unexpected. This can be a positive for us though... Now Thomas can get all the reps at LT which he needs, and Shaffer can move into the RT spot and get used to it. I love Tuck and all, but his best years are behind him, and this helps us start the youth movement, He will be great depth when he returns.

NFL adds amphetamines to steroids policy
NEW YORK (June 27, 2006) -- The NFL toughened up its drug policy, adding amphetamines to the list of banned performance-enhancers starting this season.
Amphetamines were previously listed as a "substance-abuse drug," but are now in the same category as steroids and other enhancers, which carry much stronger penalties. Next year will serve as a transition year, where a first positive test would bring a warning and put a player into the drug program.
But in 2007, amphetamines will be tested for on a regular basis. A first positive test will result in a four-game suspension, the same penalty now levied for positive steroids tests. Major League Baseball also started testing for amphetamines this season as part of its steroids policy.
Harold Henderson, NFL executive vice president of labor relations, said the league and union worked together to toughen the penalties for amphetamines after the U.S. Congressional hearings last year on drugs in sports.
"We never looked at it as a competitive issue for our players, like steroids and other things, but realized the possibility that some players would use it for a gameday edge," Henderson said in a phone interview from San Diego, where he was attending the annual rookie symposium. "The union quickly agreed with us."
In addition to the amphetamines change, the penalty for a second positive test for performance-enhancing drugs was increased from six to eight games. A third positive test still carries a one-year suspension.
Messages left with NFLPA representatives were not returned.

Thank goodness that we drafted JT. Without him we'd be in almost the same OL pickle as last years center fiasco. Will the Cleveland Browns ever get through a training camp without something blowing up in our faces? I'm beginning to think we should put Wile E. Coyote on our helmets. Would it be to much to hope, getting JT into the fray from the get go be a blessing in disguise?

Maybe will allow for our starting 5 to be more set and give them the opportunity to work together more exclusively.

With this development, I think that there is a good possiblity that last years "mental disorder" had a lot to do with Steroids---seeing as how steroids are notorious for side effects like extreme mood changes and depression.
And this is definitely not any kind of mix up. The drugs given to someone with a mental disorder and NOT going to produce a POSITIVE STEROID test.
Oh well, I think we can make due without him. And I think that this should be somewhat of a wake up call regarding the guy---maybe its time to move on.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

I really hate to hear this. I don't know and won't venture a guess to the circumstances surrounding this. But one thing I read on this thread I resoundingly agree with. Mental issues and steroid use when combined make for a possible fatal situation,no matter the circumstances.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

OK, you completely screwed that up, but I think we get the point.
But, your point is severely flawed. I have never and will never take steroids in my life. Nor would I if I was a professional athelete.
He is a professional and should act like one. This is hardly the way to do it.

I agree.
I don't think Shaffer was ever really against the move...I think his problem was more of being sort of hung out to dry.....nobody like to feel that are the odd man out of things.
Now he can go into this knowing he is the man if he gets it done and has a position he can call his.
In the long run, this is probably a good thing. Four games from now, if Shaffer or Thomas are getting abused, we can shuffle things up at that point.
