Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been suspended once again. The NFL announced on Thursday that Burfict will be suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season after violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy.

This will be the third consecutive season during which Burfict is suspended. He was previously suspended in both 2016 and 2017 for violations of player safety rules. He has not played a full season since 2013.

When he's able to stay on the field, Burfict is an excellent linebacker (the Bengals signed him to an extension early last season that made him one of the highest-paid 4-3 linebackers in the league); but he has developed a reputation over the years as a dirty player that often skirts the rules. As Bengals beat writer Jay Morrison noted, this is the 11th time Burfict has been suspended or fined by the NFL.

Cincinnati's defense is dependent on Burfict's talent as he is one of their few elite playmakers, but they have not been able to depend on him to stay off the league's suspension list.

Any bets we play the Bengals AFTER week 4? Hoping we get them while he's out.

How is this guy still in the league? He makes Josh Gordon look like a choirboy.

I can't believe Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis has the cajones to ask Eric Reid if he'd stop kneeling. Whatever you think about kneeling, you would have to admit that would be the most disciplined act to happen in the Bengals' history since the 80's. It's an insult to the game of football what the Bengals do.

My brother in law has left his fanhood of the Bengals to join us because they have so many criminals on their team.

We need an unlike or thumbs down button. I don’t want the third dirtiest guy behind Suh and Harrison on football on our team.

Yeah, I actually really wanted him when he was drafted. I did have a condition that we would also bring in his best friend from ASU as a UDFA. Apparently his friend was a big reason why he played so well as a Jr. He kept him emotionally in check. When his friend got hurt as a Sr. Burfict went into Hulk mode on the field and would do the same stuff he was doing in Cinci: taking cheapshots, getting flagged, being a mess on the field. If the Bengals didn't sign criminals because they are cheap, it'd be admirable to take in a lot of people who do should get a 2nd chance. The problem is that they have no support system for their players. But that's because they don't care about them, they just want cheap labor.

I don't recall Burfict getting DUIs...or getting suspended for habitual failed drug tests like Gordon

Yes, somebody who smokes some weed is obviously far worse than somebody who starts fights in practice, spears other players, twists ankles after the play, dives at QBs knees, does a wide variety of other cheap shots, and is widely regarded as one of the guys in the NFL that other players don't trust to play with or against..

Is that new rule called the "Burfict Rule"? Should it be? Fines haven't mattered, flags do not control him, so toss him. Or escalate the penalties. Unreasonable behavior, severe enough to jeopardize players' health and safety, especially cheap and flagrant shots, will demand severe and harsher disciplinary responses. Take the field away from him.

To discipline for change, you need to establish what matters to your problem. Standard NFL is not up to scale. Turn it up to 11.
