OP MrTed Hall of Famer M Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 9,145 Here	The drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket has died... Served in Viet Nam, retired from the Corps after 10 years. Having experienced Parris Island, I have to say, this guy was the real deal on screen. He was the consultant for Stanley Kubrick on the movie and wanted the part of the Drill Instructor, Kubrick wasn't going to give it to him, so, having been a drill instructor he went off on him to stand up when spoken to, Kubrick OBEYED and gave him the job on the spot. Semper Fi Gunny. WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

It's a Vietnam era story he starred in where he and a group of Recon Marines have to hold out against VC on one of those small hilltop posts. "Hey, I'm a reasonable guy. Had a few dinners and alot of conversation and found he was a really good guy. My kids still laugh at the many photos I have with him from the event. RIP Gunny... Semper Fi.

That was not a good movie, the acting and effects were terrible. I thought it was shoddily thrown together, trying to capitalize on the success of "Platoon". PDF Hall of Famer P Joined: Oct 2017 Posts: 3,946	I met him very briefly on 3 different occasions when our orbits crossed during various comedy bits he filmed. Very smart guy, warm and funny. Truly versatile and professional He wrote a lot of poetry, both public and private. Those drill march chants he wrote were poems, and they've been copied by many ever since. R.I.P.
