After their worst month of the season, the Featherheads find themselves in 1st place. Imagine if they ever start hitting like I think they can hit. I would still like to see Lofton lead off with Sizemore moving to the 3 hole. Slide Hafner to 5 and maybe he'll start mashing again.
Sidenote: I heard Tom Hamilton say that the Indians are the first team ever to beat Johann Santana 3 times in one season - quite an achievement because that guy is a complete pitcher.

I think we all owe a HUGE "Thank You" to Fausto and C.C. for that stat.

You are correct because its not like we hammered Santana with our bats, just out-pitched him. I think we might possibly have 2 aces, at least through the 2008 season ...

Come on Indians!!!! This is pathetic. The Tigers have won only 2 of there last 10 games and we can't hit the ball for a damn.

We don't know how to bunt.
We're gonna choke and regret giving Wedge that extension, bank on it.

i think we already regret it, you shouldn't be a big league manager or hitting coach, or hell player for that matter if you can't bunt or teach to bunt. i still say we need to fire shelton, we need to do something

Firing the hitting coach isn't going to do anything. Sure, when we chopped Eddie Murray out, we caught some fire...but it's not guarnteed to happen now.
What I don't understand is why we keep shuffling the lineup EVERYDAY...even when we are hitting. If your gonna bat Lofton #2, LEAVE HIM THERE, not move him to the #7 hole the very next day. And what's with Peralta at the bottom of the order? Blake at #3? Your kidding!
The ideal lineup should be:
Sizemore Lofton Martinez Hafner Garko Peralta Blake Gutierrez Barfield......
Why is it so hard to leave it like that for awhile?! Wedge is to be at fault here, not Shelton, sure bunting is a problem, but it's not the whole problem! The starting rotation at times has been shaky, but for the most part has been fantastic with CC/Carmona/Byrd...And hell, Laffey didn't look to shabby in his first start. The bullpen has been GREAT.
The Tigers have only won 2 of there last 11 games. It's time for us to start winning, and winning NOW.
GO TRIBE!

I think its definitely time for this:
1. Lofton 2. Blake 3. Sizemore 4. Martinez 5. Hafner 6. Garko 7. Peralta 8. Gutierrez 9. Barfield / Inglett
Two guys I've seen enough of ... Barfield and Nixon. can anyone tell me how Barfield hit .280 in the NL last year? He looks totally over-matched at the plate. Nixon was a fine player for many years with the Red Sox, but I think he's done. That back surgery not only stole his footspeed, it took away his bat speed too.

i agree, lofton is a pure leadoff hitter, the only real one on the team, sizemore strikes out too much to be a lead off, but def nice at #3. i think its time to see cabrera, peralta has, does and always will suck

The bare thread they hang on to, is that the pitching really isn't all that bad. It appears Westbrook is over the hump and Fausto only gave up one yesterday.
The bats are killing us,....

Indians win 4-0, holding on to 1st place by a 1/2 game. Paul Byrd throws a complete game shutout. The more I see of Byrd, the more I admire him ... he does it with grit and guile ... imagine, with his command, if he was blessed with the stuff CC or Carmona have? I'd really like Westbrook and Lee to watch Byrd carefully, and try to emulate. Good win tonight!

Rouse was DFA'd after the game. Either Rivas, Inglett or Asdrubal Cabrera will be getting the call to replace him on the active roster.

Its Asdrubal that is taking the roster spot, per the Tribe page on the PD's website.

What? Barfield has been bad this year. Peralta strikes out too much, but is hitting .280 with 16 HRs and 56 RBI. I'll take that from my SS...

yeah i guess its one or the other, barfields D is excellent while peraltas sucks, and barf can't hit for nothing, and johnny hits for power but strikes out a ton. I think cabrera can play 3rd short and 2nd, not for sure. I know peralta has played some 3rd base too so we might see some shuffling depending on matchups

Branyan?
How many more outfielders do we need?
We have Lofton, Nixon, Franky G, Sizemore, Michaels, Dellucci, and now Branyan?
Good gravy.

Not to argue, but RB has played 3rd too. Ain't no way he gets past Casey Blake though. He's killing it at three.
Looks better without the beard too.

Cleveland Indians re-sign Russell Branyan to minor league contract Posted by Staff reports August 07, 2007 13:19PM
The Indians reached into the past again today and signed infielder Russell Branyan to a minor league contact. Branyan has been assigned to Class AAA Buffalo.
On July 30 the Indians re-acquired outfielder Kenny Lofton in a trade with Texas.
Branyan, 31, returns to the Indians organization where he was drafted in 1994. He appeared in parts of five seasons with Cleveland from 1998-2002.
Branyan owns a career average of .229 with 88 doubles, 118 home runs and 293 RBI in 688 games. He spent this season with San Diego, where he hit .197 with five doubles, seven homers and 19 RBI in 61 games before being released on July 28.
