IN my mind, the only one that's even come close in consideration for "best player available" against Mayfield was Barkley.

I just can't decide if I figure Barkley is like Trent Richardson or like Jerome Bettis, either way, I say take Mayfield and go from there.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

It's an edited picture. The original is Brett Favre getting his draft call from the Falcons.

Fingers crossed out pick works out a little better than that did for the Falcons lmao. fingerscrossed

The Browns could not screw up this draft any worse than if they select Baker (Johnny Manziel 2) Mayfield. What a disaster this draft is going to turn out to be. I am disgusted if true.

I projected the picks like this.

1. Darnold
2. Barkley
3. Rosen
4. Trade.....This is possibly why we are hearing Baker @1....

In the last 48 hours, I heard from 3 people in the NFL whom I respect. One said Browns will take Josh Allen. One said Sam Darnold. One said Baker Mayfield. #100yearswar.

Please God let the Browns take Darnold or Allen. Not Mayfield. We tried that once already when we took Manziel.

Daniel Jeremiah, who religiously, had been talking about Darnold all of 2018 going to Cleveland just changed his final mock to Baker Mayfield......and a trade down.

I agree this could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Having the #1 overall pick and taking a joke of a QB with real franchise type QB's on the board might be more than I can take.

I get the "try to make the Jets trade up to #1" ... but even if we DO go back to #3, there's no way Darnold gets there

He is a midget and a clone of Johnny Manziel. We had that joke played on us already.

So, Dorsey isn't telling Hue, his old lady or anyone else but he's telling JT?! It sounds like it?! What does MAYBE taking Mayfield sound like? A turd dropping into a toilet? NOBODY is letting ANYTHING out! This franchise has had so many leaks in the Hue era that I'm sure Dorsey is doing whatever is needed to keep it quiet.

I would be extremely uncomfortable with drafting Mayfield. However, I may be holding his lack of on-field adversity against him too much. I probably shouldn't hold it against him that he's on a good team. At the same time, I really worry about him being on a not good team, i.e, ours.

When he dealt with adversity at Texas Tech, he left the team and went to Oklahoma. (There was more to the situation-scholarship, etc.)

If he deals with adversity here, which seems inevitable, will he sign a second contract or go mercenary? Do we want a bunch of franchise tags like Cousins? Will his uber-competitiveness lead him to want to be on a better team?

I could also see him going the way of Matt Leinart. Great QB when his team is head and shoulders better than everybody else. Much less so on an "even" field.

I could be completely off base.

I wouldn't love the pick if he's it, but I can understand/rationalize it.

That's what I'm saying. All of these people talking to Schefty know something but people in house don't? Come on. I don't care how much the the media is running with this.

This feels so much like the last-minute Trubisky buzz last year.

If it's a QB, it's Darnold or Rosen. I will actually be surprised if we take any other QB at pick 1.

MKC says it's him so I feel fairly safe saying it probably isn't. I think they jerk her chain in Berea for fun.

I wouldn't mind at all if Mayfield is the pick, but I don't see the Jonny Manziel comparisons (Not that you were making them, Grimm, just others in this thread).

Is it because he's short? Is it because he's from Texas? Is it because he's had some off the field issues? What I see is that this kid has excelled despite everything thrown at him. I'm sure he was told from day one he couldn't be a college QB because of his height. He beat them all. I like that. I don't care if he plays with a chip on his shoulder, I think they all should.

He's confident and he has ability. He's played against some of the best and played well in big games.

Give me the guy who started from nothing and made his way to the top than a guy who was always at the top and just coasted. What adversity has Rosen or Darnold truly over come? They came from top flight High Schools in Cali, probably paid to get there. Neither Allen nor Mayfield came from anything.

As for the off the field stuff, he was arrested once for charges included public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest. One time. Not a dozen, ONE.

Go look up Manziel on Wikipedia and look at the NUMEROUS incidents. There's absolutely no comparison and to make one is extremely short sighted.

I don't know who the Browns will take, but if they take Mayfield, it might just turn around the franchise because there will still be people who doubt him and the only thing he's done ALL HIS LIFE when people do that is excel. How can you not like the hell outta that?

That being said, I'd be good if the Browns took any of the QB's except Rosen. I see him as the most polished but the most bustable QB of the bunch. No Humility. That's gonna hurt him. JMO.
