"The Jets already traded three 2nd rd picks to potentially get their 3rd ranked QB. Let's see if we can get them to trade even more including next year's first rd pick for their #1 guy." -The Browns All this Mayfield smoke, it's getting difficult to breathe. These guys are paid to generate as much talk and interest in this thing right up to the end. The dry spell to training camp approaches.

This has always been an odd take for me... "Hey, we're going to take so and so unless you want to trade with us for him." That really doesn't make sense to me. Not saying it doesn't happen like that, but it doesn't jive with me. I think they better way to sucker a team into wanting a player is saying that you have an offer from another team that wants the player we think you want, what will you give us for the pick?

I think it will be Baker ...
I have no reason or logic to back that up ... NONE ... its certainly not based on anything ive heard or read the last few days or weeks ...
Its just how i think it will go .... based on NOTHING .... *L* ...
I want Sam but think tabber will be extremely happy (as opposed to just really happy if we took Sam) ... tonight after the first pick is in ...

sounds like a done deal. if it doesn't work out and Darnold ends up as a franchise guy in New York ... we'll never live this day down
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

All the stats show Mayfield to be the best QB in the draft. The analytic guys and (supposedly Wolf and Highsmith) are most likely pushing for him. If Mayfield is the pick, and all signs are pointing to it being him, then I am just proud of Dorsey for overlooking the arbitrary height requirements that have been put on QBs. He’s taking who he feels is the best player. Let’s be real, if Mayfield is two inches taller he’d be a near slam dunk first overall pick.

Why would anyone think Mayfield is a joke of a QB?
He is a midget and a clone of Johnny Manziel. We had that joke played on us already. 6’ is not a midget. Johnny was a scrambler, Mayfield is a pocket passer that can run. The comparison to Johnny is bunk BS. Rosen is the best prospect in the draft but teams think he is one concussion from retiring. Darnold and Mayfield are neck and neck to me but Darnold has turnover issues. Just like Kizer turned over the ball in the red zone at ND, he did it in the NFL. Not sure if Darnold can correct his issues. That is a huge red flag. Mayfield has issues as well, but he is accurate and a winner. I like him.

Don't you love the craziness of this Draft???
First it's Darnold as a lock Then in creeps the whispers about Josh Allen Then it's back to Darnold. DARNOLD VS. ALLEN Did someone say Rosen? Nope, no one is talking about Rosen at all. Ooo, look over here at the "trade down posts"...STOP it...I'm thinking it's gonna be Darnold. DARNOLD VS. BARKLEY Barkley? Chubb? Ward? What's going on? Ok...my friend's cousin's mailman says Baker Mayfield. MAYFIELD!!!! Wait, now the Browns don't want Darnold at all (fumbles) so it's ALLEN VS MAYFIELD. It's the day of the draft and everyone is talking about Mayfield. They've cooled on Allen.
Oh it's defintely Mayfield.
And the card is in!
Barkley.

The Weeden pick was a panic move, the Manziel pick was dumb just based off of who else was available at that point in the draft. The Mayfield pick, if it happens, is at least well thought out and vetted. I can talk myself into Mayfield pretty easily. I’m just happy it’s not Josh Allen.

After the 2017 season ended Dorsey made some comments on how he spent his 2017 summer after the KC Chiefs and Dorsey parted ways on June, 11, 2017 and before hired by the Browns on Dec 7, 2017...Dorsey commented about spending extra time watching Mayfied play.
Dorsey was able to evaluate 6 of Mayfield's games link before the draft evaluations began. I got the impression that Dorsey liked what he saw from Mayfield but Dorsey has not said a whole lot about Mayfield.
It would not be a total shock to me if Dorsey picked Mayfield...

I think it is a done deal - make it happen Baker. Just might be and that's good with me: The drumbeat of Baker Mayfield to the Browns at No. 1 tonight is getting strongUpdated 10:11 AM; Posted 9:39 AM By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The buzz on Baker Mayfield to the Browns at No. 1 overall tonight is getting strong. One league source told cleveland.com that rumblings inside the Browns facility among staffers are that Mayfield will be the pick because he has all of the qualities GM John Dorsey is looking for. NFL Network's Steve Wyche reported that John Dorsey showed his final draft board to staffers on Wednesday, including Hue Jackson, and coordinators Todd Haley and Gregg Williams. He said Jimmy Haslam also signed off on the final decision. The source said the Browns are also actively shopping the No. 4 overall pick and will try to move down if the player they want isn't there. Cleveland.com reported on Wednesday that the two finalists for the Browns' No. 1 pick were Josh Allen and Mayfield, according to league sources. But word began to circulate in league circles late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning that Mayfield was the choice. ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported on Thursday morning that there's 'mounting belief' among NFL head coaches and GMs that the Brown will draft Mayfield. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, a former Browns scout, projected that the Browns will take Mayfield in his mock draft, released this morning. Never saw a QB throw to more wide open receivers than Baker Mayfield. All day to throw. I still like Baker but he is not a QB that you take that high, he just isn't.
I can't see us drafting a 6 ft crotch grabber at #1 overall. I can't see us taking a small school QB with no accuracy either.
I will just have confidence that it's darnold or Rosen announced tonight.

if we take Baker I'm not sure I can do it anymore I agree this could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Having the #1 overall pick and taking a joke of a QB with real franchise type QB's on the board might be more than I can take. Taking the racist Josh Allen was never in the Browns Plans. They just leaked info the the media to create a smokscreen. The reality is that The FO has been telling us for months who they were going to take if we just listened.

If they truly want Mayfield I could see us trading out of #1 for a kings ransom or taking Barkley knowing Mayfield most likely will available at #4 ... JMHO

Here's one thing that concerns me .......
Mayfield basically blew off the Packers, and didn't even try to learn their playbook.
Was he tipped off as to who is going at 1?

Better take Darnold with #1, if not take Barkely or Chubb.
Can't think we are taking any QB , other than Darnold, with the #1 pick.
Dorsey should be shown the door if we take Mayfield, Rosen, or Allen with the #1 pick.

Barkley at 1 seems to be a sure fire pick of the draft and a play maker Because of their FA signing of a starting QB and a solid backup there will be 3or 4 QBS with good creds to pick up and learn which seems to be their plan anyway IMHO

I don't know what I'm so scared of about Mayfield.
1. He's not Johnny. 2. He is PFF's #1 QB in this draft, and he hits all the benchmarks. 3. He actually passes Bill Parcel's criteria for drafting a QB. 4. He's got the best stats of all the QB's. 5. He played 4 years and got better every year. 6. He looks to be a pocket passer first. 7. He seemed intelligent at the whiteboard. 8. He doesn't seem to stare down receivers. 9. He doesn't seem to have an injury history. 10. His teammates seem to love him. One even said "I'd follow that guy anywhere".
So why does he scare me? It's his height. And he was a two-time walk on. And his hands are small.
None of this crap should bother me at all! It's the sour taste Manziel left on me that sours me on Mayfield, just because of the height. But I know they're not the same guy. I'm just nervous.
I feel like I'm going to have to sell myself on this pick like I always do, and I don't want to have to do that. I want to just pick the guy who I want so that I don't have to talk myself into it. Or roll my eyes at MKC's fluff QB stories come training camp.

honestly i think people are making too big of a deal with his height. he's so good in everything else that the heigh isn't even a problem really.
the biggest thing that scares me, again, is the system he ran in college. now, he absolutely excelled in the system, and he can only play the scheme which is handed to him, so that aint his fault.
but it is a concern with wondering if he can actually make the transition to the nfl.
everybody around here throughout the years have said spread QB's are the hardest to evaluate.
well...

I don't understand the age thing.... He's 23. Kurt Warner was about 30 when he started playing. Same with Steve Young. Both Hall of Famers.
More than likely Baker is going to be the starter week 1 and it's quite possible we'll trade Tyrod.
He could play til he's 38, that's 15 years.... I'm ok with that.

If we take him, I hope he'll wind up being the best QB in this draft, a 15 year starter, and a Super Bowl winner for the Browns.
If we take him, and he's OK, and Darnold becomes a great QB ..... well .... then it's "see ya Dorsey".

Setting a 19 or 20 year old a year or two is one thing. Setting a 23 year old that long is another. I don't think he or anyone else is drafted to start day one.
