He's not going to be playing right away. He may not play this year. (meaningful downs, that is)

We'll see what he has to say about that.......

I mean, if he clearly shows in training camp that he should be the starter and is ready to the responsibility, are we going to tell him no?

Although, it is a good demonstration of his pin point ball placement

I'm not so much concerned with what we as fans can or can't get over. I'm more concerned with the general pattern. Sort of like putting a puzzle together. And let's face it, we're all hoping that none of this really matters at this point.

What I'm looking at is that if these same things had happened, or do happen in the NFL, it will result in suspensions. That will most certainly have a negative impact on your team.

We all hope things like this don't persist going forward. But I think those posters trying to brush this off as nothing are a little to quick to try and dismiss it as a non event.

Well, if a rookie, playing in a brand new offense outshines TT, do what you have to do.

That would say a lot about the TT pickup, wouldn't it?

Not really. TT has been about a .500 average starter in the NFL. He is what he is and when looking at what he was paid in the grand scheme of QB pay these days we didn't overspend.

It would tell us a lot more about Mayfield than TT.

That's literally every player that is drafted in the first round.
tell that johnny.

When do you think this picture was taken?

Christ, Pettine and Farmer both look like they've soiled the bed.

To be fair, that's the first time they met Gilbert and Manziel.

We shall see.

Hopefully he understands what being a professional is all about, and that the opposing defenses will certainly be trying to get under his skin.

I'm looking for that moxie that Philip Rivers has. I also hope he understands that he will be the face of the franchise, and he's being paid as a professional. So he has to manage his emotions so they don't hurt the team

There was basically only one off the field issue. Manziel, if anyone with a brain would have looked into it, was horrible off the field. The team literally could have just talked to his dad.

I just feel like this is history repeating it's self.

Manziel was a known partier who didn't work hard. Mayfield had one off the field incident, which is bad and worse than any of the other QBs, but everyone at Oklahoma loves him for his hard work and care given to others.

This podcast is a great listen if you want to find out about Baker Mayfield's background. They interview his high school coach, Lincoln Riley, Dede Westbrook, and Jim Ross (the WWE announcer and huge Oklahoma fan) and ask them about Mayfield. If you come away from this thinking Mayfield has any character flaws then I don't know what to tell you other than you are active trying to dislike the pick.

I don't dislike Mayfield.

Saw a profile story where he befriended a little girl with leukemia who later died. He went to her funeral. It was a touching story and a great gesture by Mayfield.

I think he is a good player. I just don't think he is better than Darnold.

I will pull for him. I want the team to succeed.

This is exactly how I feel except substitute Rosen for Darnold.

Listened to this last night. It's hard not to like the guy.

I'm sure everyone in our division will hate him though, and that's alright by me.

He'll be like our very own Tony Romo, lol

EDIT: Or if we can switch sports, maybe our own Draymond Green

The Oklahoma System is not an orthodox system, but it's not basic by any means.

And he had that thing down.

One thing I am not going to do is doubt that guy. I've said that all along. Because, he's disproved those doubting him his whole life.

I meant the "other film". Running from the cops. Beaning an opposing player in the head with the football. Grabbing his crotch while flipping off and cursing at the opposing team. Trying to plant his team flag in turf at O.S.U.

See, it's almost always the case that coaches talk up their players. But they can't erase the film.

They talked about all that stuff on the podcast (besides beaning the opposing player in the head). The on field stuff they, rightly or wrongly, just chalked to competitiveness. Running from a cop they blamed on immaturity.

For me the flag thing is a 100% non-issue and I might even like it a little bit.

There's also all the film of him showing remorse for many of those things that he did. Supposedly he was crying in his jail cell, worried about what he was going to tell his parents. Not his career, but how he disappointed his family.

He seemed genuinely remorseful after the KU incident

So there's that..........

I mean, check this video out of Lincoln Riley talking about him. The guy struggles to come up with words

He ‘plants a flag’ or other such nonsense in the pros I hope an opposing LB lights him up. I’d say that about anyone. I hate the Cowboys but when TO did his stupid stomp on the Star routine I loved watching him get blasted. That crap isn’t NFL appropriate. Grow up. Do your job. Play hard. Respect your opponents. Get paid. Act like you’ve been there.

As log as you don't mind the penalties and suspensions the NFL imposes as a result, you're fine.

Being competitive and having fire are a great thing. Yet I've seen a lot of players who have that and the self control not to do stupid things. They aren't necessarily the same thing.

You have people talking about him and that's fine. I don't think he's a bad kid. But there are clear cut examples that in game situations, he sometimes lacks self control. It's been a real issue no matter how much people like the kid.

That's a good point.

Dorsey has no issues taking players with character concerns.

What do you think about the t.d. celebrations today? This, from your post, sums up my feelings:

I said before the draft that Mayfield was a good QB and he is. He will be one of the best QBs we have had in awhile. I still think it was a mistake to draft him though. He has character flaws that will have a chance to destroy his NFL career and his small size could lead to injury that shortens his career especially with the way he like to run his mouth off during the game because that will have defense gunning to head hunt him.

I can only hope he grows in maturity fast enough to avoid ending his career early. This is the absolute worst division he could have been drafted into.

Still he is a Brown now whether I like it or not so I will support him until he gives me reason not to. I wish that he has a great career with us and proves against all the odds against him to be successful.

Jason White (Sooner Heisman QB), Colt McCoy (a winner), and finally Kase Keenum (who took 5 years and 3 teams to have a good season)...

Go Browns.

I honestly wish guys would hand the ball off to the ref and go celebrate on the sidelines with their teammates. If that was good enough for Jerry Rice...

There is also very little they can do, under the CBA. It's not like the old days, where a player could come in, year round, and work with the coaches. (if they chose to)

I don't think it's really a question of trust. Sometimes you have to make judgement calls. I'd say that every QB in this draft, as it almost always is, had some questions surrounding them. You have to look at their game film, interview them, check into their background, consult your scouting department and make a judgement call.

There my never be another incident with Mayfield. This may turn out to be a non issue moving forward. I'm sure we can agree that we both, along with all other Browns fans certainly hope that's the case.

But you most certainly do not base your #1 draft pick on "what he tells you". And you most certainly do look at his past actions.

What I do trust is that Dorsey selected the QB he felt was best. I see reasons why he would be the selection. I also see that there are risks involved that can't be overlooked. And that Dorsey made a judgement call. Whether that was the right call or not is yet to be seen.

As you state, you certainly look into their background. I'm simply pointing out obvious reasons why there are some red flags in that background. Nobody can honestly deny that.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
