I'd have no issue drafting the best corner left on the board tonight. I'm not opposed but the Browns added 3 CBs in free agency.. Travis Carrie 3 years $31 million Terrance Mitchell 3 years $10 million EJ Gaines 1 year $4 million

Ward will probably be a starter right off the bat.
I hope they just got BPA the rest of the draft.

EJ Gaines was one of the most underrated CB's in the NFL last season from what I read when we signed him.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

The last time a corner was taken this high it was Charles Woodson at #4. So that is who we should compare him to. He should be that good if we took him this high... If he's only Haden good then this was a BAD pick just like the Haden pick was. We could have taken Earl Thomas...Haden never lived up to how high we drafted him. We shall see. If Ward is really THAT good that he deserved to be taken this high we got a lockdown best in the league corner for the next ten years or so. If not, then we were foolish.

So we shall see how great he can be and THEN decide if it was worth the #4 pick in the draft... I HOPE he is. I HOPE he is that kind of player. Time will tell.

Too funny. Chubb would be a sure thing? I think he's kinda small for his position.

But you're getting ridiculous with your expectations. I mean, Jesus. Should every 6th round QB live up to Tom Brady because that's where Tom Brady was picked? Joe Haden was picked at 7. He was a very good pick for us. That's what he was. He was not a failure. The pick wasn't a failure.

No doubt. If Chubb isn't Reggie White, Von Miller, or JJ Watt is he a failure??? lol.
I personally think Ward will be very solid.....Pro Bowl potential. Well worth a top 5 pick in today's NFL. I would much rather have a CB in the top 5 than a freaking RB....that was the overdraft of the night.......well him or Nelson.

Like I said, the last time a corner was taken this high it was Charles Woodson. How many years ago was that? So when we take a corner THAT high there are certain expectations. He either meets those expectations or it was a bad pick... Good doesn't cut it in the top five. Not even close. So we shall see...

OR we can just hope Ward is a very good player that will help the team for many years instead of attaching unrealistic expectations to him.

That's one of the reasons that we took Ward where we did. I like Bradley Chubb too. But to think that you're going to get everyone that you want is ridiculous. Be happy we didn't select someone like Mike McLynchy at number 4. You're of this mindset that if you don't get your exact guy, the sky is falling. Denzel Ward is a very good player. Dorsey and the organization seem to value that position. That's who they wanted. Not my choice, but it could have been a lot worse. Kicking and screaming like a baby just because you didn't get the exact player you want is ridiculous. Be happy we didn't select Josh Allen. Personally, I saw that and called the night a success

So if we drafted a Center in the top five and he was just a good solid player that would be fine? Right. There is a REASON that the last time a corner was taken this high was Woodson in 1998. TWENTY YEARS AGO. So I guess every team in the league is stupid for not drafting average "good solid" corners in the top five every year? "Good" corners are a dime a dozen in the bottom of the first and throughout the second... All I'm saying is if you take the position of corner that high, which hasn't happened in 20 years, then there are expectations to doing that.

I really wish you could call me that to my face. You wouldn't do it again I can promise you. Ward was the pick. It is what it is. If he IS great and I HOPE he really is, then that is awesome. THAT is my opinion. Don't like it? Block me. But don't be calling me names just because you are safe and sound behind a computer screen. That is a punk ass thing to do...

You take anyone that high, any position... there's expectations they better play and be worthy of the pick. I think it's in our nature to question who the Browns pick, regardless who or what they are, because they've bombed on so many people/positions and I think, honestly, it's well within your right to do so.
Faces have come and faces have gone, yet the stench of picking horrible players has been common.

Who else besides Chubb would you have liked at 4? And seriously,

Ok my first post on Ward...for most of this process I've been stating that I think Dorsey will take Ward. Only this last week I caved in to Diam and said ok Fitzpatrick...lol
But I had always thought Ward was Dorsey's guy. Cause of the speed its one thing to be a very good CB but another to be a very good CB with 4.32 speed and that is from the combine stopwatch.
Speed kills. Ward is good in coming up to make the tackle in the run game but he has good cover skills but his speed is what gives him the opportunity to face the QB when he plays man and arm bars his man so when he takes off he can easily catch up to him. When he sees the QB he will be taught to look and he can see when to break and he will be a INT machine when he does learn that gift.
As for the situational pass rusher. I don't hear those same Chubb guys begging for us to take Landry tonight early on. The kid is excellent and will not cost a #4.
I'm just curious if Dorsey was going to take Barkley, man o man that would have been sweet. Shocked Giants didn't go for Darnold. Cost Rosen a lot as he dropped to 10? Jets would have taken him.
I feel bad for the Bills. If you wish to know about draft QBs btw listen to Troy Aikmen, he was spot on in his analysis.
Pardon me as I stray. But we got a starter in Ward. The best and fastest CB we've had. He is no Gilbert. He has the vertical jump you want in a CB, he has the toughness of an Ohio State defensive player.
His draft profile has him as an INSTANT STARTER. Which btw we needed one!
Looking forward to tonight!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

im and old right guard/nosetackle, de/st....ward makes sense, fastest man on the field most sundays...i believe this is a need pick, and will start as a 3 cb...but with that in mind... how does this relate to the overall?...well we got ogbah(sp?)..when i re watch the games from last year a lil, i see the cb need....ogbah/garrett/nassib is adequate for now, cb was a need... he will cover the slot/ or faster guys...i think he could of been had later, but not without trades, i think we have done well, chubb and garret would be fun.... but if you relive the sadness, like i do(watching year old games) you will see, this was the right move

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Ward was the pick that was needed.
Our DB's were so bad last year. Ogbah and Garrett will be solid this year with our DB upgrades. They only need to stay on the field and the big plays will come.
