You have to stop worrying about what national media pundits say or think of us. Its liberating. Some of these knobs are still using the burning river schtick on us for their stupid clickbait "articles". That happened almost 50 years ago, but its always good for a yuck with the coastal elites that dominate the national media. Well I decided I don't need their affirmation, and I also don't care about their derision.

That happened almost 50 years ago, but its always good for a yuck with the coastal elites that dominate the national media. Well I decided I don't need their affirmation, and I also don't care about their derision. I’m past that point actually and have moved on to the next step. I’m no longer even listening to our own guys. I’m done (haven’t even started this year) watching pressers from our FO. That said I know exactly what they’re saying... “We got the guys we wanted and we feel like we are going to turn this around. We’re all on the same page and excited to get started... Blah blah blah.” I also am not going to watch any pressers or other such propaganda from our players... “I feel like I’m the guy that can turn this around. I’m going to work harder than anyone. I’m going to go out and prove my doubters wrong...blah blah blah.” Same words, different mouths. Frankly anymore I just find it pisses me off more than anything. So much talk. So much rah rah. Until they produce I’ve got the entire team and FO on press blackout ignore. I’ll watch any and all practice footage. I’ll watch all the preseason and regular season games. I’ll read articles that don’t include much as far as player/coach/FO quotes. But I’m done with the rest of it. Produce. Just shut up and produce. They do that and I’ll be a fan of them. Until then I’m a fan of the Browns. And they’re just another stuffed shirt/jersey until they prove on the field otherwise. It sucks I feel this way but I think it’s the only way I can can maintain my fandom of this team.

It's funny how folks who wanted a football guy are not totally digging that we have a football guy. Some people are just never happy.

Just an observation;
If Corbett and Hubbard end up being our starting OTs' we will have the shortest average height of the OL in the League ... To go with a less than average height of our QBs'.

This is a joke right? Wentz has NFL wins to his name. Mayfield has done nothing at the NFL level. At this point it’s an absurd statement.

Mayfield > Wentz > Darnold Wentz has looked like an all pro as an NFL QB - stating or even offering the opinion that BM is better than Wentz at this point is an unwinnable debate. I agree that BM might be the best of these rookie QB just drafted ... none of them have done anything to differentiate themselves in the NFL and everyone is going off opinion on how they will transition to the NFL based on collegiate career .... but Wentz? Can't go there and have any credibility.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I’m sure you’ll disagree but if you offered all 32 nfl gm’s their choice of Baker or Wentz ... Do I even need to put the numbers down ... ...

Let's give Baker a chance. He may not be as good as Wentz, but he may turn out to be better, we'll see.

That's fair. I will bookmark this and and look forward to coming back in a couple years when you actually have numbers to put down.

http://www.giants.com/videos/videos/Head...98-2faeea07f375Hmm, so the Giants allude to the fact that Mayfield was their #1 (player, not just QB)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

You know.. I was a Rosen wanna be. Darnold was my next choice. I didn't think Jimmy and Dee could possibly allow a QB to be drafted that was even casually mentioned in the same breath as JFF. Its a BILLION dollar franchise and I thought the risks out weighed the upside. BUT.. I have to admit, after mulling it over and watching Baker these past few days and weeks leading up to the draft.. Listening to everyone that knows him coached him and played with him, I think the kids going to be a good one. We see a few media blurbs about some antic the kid pulled and next thing u know he's a punk forever. The amount of time the ownership and front office spent with him and researched him in the last couple of months is 1000 times more than fans have. I like the way he talks and carries himself. We NEED some moxy on this team and he has IT in spades. Unless he somehow starts drinking or smoking pot like JFF did , he is no worse than 95 percent of the players in the NFL OR the general public. I'm all in now and will be rooting for Baker to be the QB we have been searching for.

Here it is. https://twitter.com/ScottBarrettDFB/status/990710269033762816"I don't know that the Giants didn't have interest in Baker Mayfield. Dave Gettleman (On passing up Sam Darnold): "If they went Mayfield, we were taking Saquon. End of discussion." Interesting.

In the video at about 25sec, Shurmur clearly states they has Saquon at the #1 player in the draft. I think thier comment could easily be construed as “Even though we had Darnold as our #1 QB, we were taking Saquon even if Darnold was there”!

I don't understand the Baker bashing for off the field stuff.
Does he embrace the grind?
Does he have a substance abuse problem?
No.
He's not Manziel.
As far personality goes...i like his personality there is an edge to him that i appreciate and think is necessary to be the best.
When you look at the tape you see a guy that produces, he's efficient, accurate and can make adlib/second reaction plays.
He does face a transition from OUs offense to an NFL offense but other spread QBs have made the transition plus Baker will be given time to make the transition. The bashing will go away when he shows his accuracy, especially when he gets in a rhythm, and the excitement in his play. He will look like no QB we've had here in years.

Lots of stuff...all the stuff has been written about him. I am not going to try to alter anyone's thinking about him because he's one of those players you either like his game or you don't. Because I have watched Oklahoma since the 70's I know all about their team and their schemes(wish the wishbone was still around).
The issues I have are as many have ..I know he's shorter but that seems to be the main thing on my mind ,while the second is the conference he played in, meaning he didn't see top rated defensive schemes all season. But the thing is , you play who you play, you don't choose that ,except those teams before the conference play begins. Mayfield has game. Perhaps I would have chosen Darnold or Rosen but I would have had to know Rosen's medicals before making that decision. It was never about his comments but about the concussions for me. Darnold was mixed bag for me...wondering if he can clean up his game to be a complete QB. We aren't going to know for a couple of years but just my hunch , I think 4-5 of the QB's in this draft will be good.

And that's the thing. He's a genuinely good kid. A guy you can't help but like and root for. He has the fire and the passion you want on your team.
The only real question is can he keep his emotions in check when the adrenaline starts flowing. So far that's a question mark. We'll have to wait and see. Just now reading all these. We'll put Pit and about sums it up for me. I can be a little concerned but this is a kid I can cheer for!

Some of these posts are hilarious. It's like some people dislike Baker so much that they can't just take a wait and see approach. They're all doom and gloom because:
1. He got drunk and ran from police on his 21st Birthday. How many of you have been so drunk that you've done really stupid things? I know I have. In college I got that drunk a lot of times, and I also ran from police once. I was smoking weed in a parking garage when I was a freshman and a paddy wagon pulled up and asked what we were doing. We all took off running back to the dorm. I'm 36 years old now, successful in my career and family. But I guess I didn't deserve any of that because I ran from the cops once.
And he did it on his 21st birthday. I'll bet he was freaking hammered. A lot of people have way too much fun on their 21st and I think he did too. I'm not going to hate on him for that, for something I did myself.
2. He grabbed his crotch, and gave some middle fingers. Oh boo freaking hoo. He's got a nasty side to him when it comes to trash talking other teams. You think he's the only player on that field who isn't giving each other trash on every play? I'm betting he's reacting to some trash talk previously given. And I doubt he repeats the reaction in the NFL after taking all the heat for it now. You think our coaches are gonna let him grab his crotch on the sidelines. Not likely. Calm down. It means nothing now. If he starts grabbing his crotch and giving the bird, then you all can say he needs to mature. For all we know, he has matured already. Wait and see approach people.
3. He planted the OU flag after beating tOSU. Seriously? Seriously? I'm an alumni and I don't care about this. I had season tickets for 4 years! I ran onto the field after beating Michigan and stood on that very 50 yard line! Do you think I was upset about him planting the flag? No, I thought it was funny. He just whooped our butts after taking a beating the prior year, and he celebrated. I didn't care then and I don't care now. I was upset about the loss. Did anyone get upset when fans carried off the goal posts from the stadium? Or was that ok because it was fans? It's a game. I don't see this as any different from rivalry based fun.
So just take a back seat and relax people.
And Portland, if the flag thing doesn't bother me, someone who actually went to tOSU and went to all the home games and some away games, took pride in being a Buckeye, jumped in Mirror Lake repeatedly, and loved my school, then it shouldn't bother you.
Seriously, the flag thing is a non issue. And we don't have to worry about this in the pros. When was the last time we saw a Browns flag?

Hey I graduated from Mayfield High School.
Go Baker.
I am ok with Baker. I had him third but I liked a lot about his game.
I am sure Dorsey and staff looked deep and Baker was their pick. So I am a Baker fan.
I believe in Dorsey and staff. Now it all begins at zero.
The slate is clean all the draft picks no matter where they are starting from as far round drafted.
Now begins the real test. How do they play?
We have our team. Free agents and draft picks along with the former roster. We are a better team and should win games.
Hue and his coaches have to get them ready.
We have weapons on offense. We have a much improved defense.
We have a starting quarterback that has actually won games.
So let's get it on.

We lost a pro bowl LT... are we a better team? We still depend on Gordon for a season... We still have the worst HC in the league and one of the worst DC's... Don't think we are going to win many more games... Player wise this was a typical Sachi draft, without the excuse of the trades.

Seriously, the flag thing is a non issue. And we don't have to worry about this in the pros. When was the last time we saw a Browns flag? We just see it all differently. I don’t like my players to act like asses when they do their jobs. Running around like 4 year old swinging their arms, flipping off opponents, grabbing their crotch, etc. Act like an adult. Act like a pro. Do your job. All that crap is a reflection of the player, and of the team. To me it says you can’t control your emotions. As I’ve already said, to me the biggest slight you can give your opponent is to act like they don’t exist. To act as though each TD is so expected that there’s no reason to run around and act like you just won the lottery. We will likely never agree on this. I’ll never like excessive celebration or childish antics on the field. I lived in CBus for 11 years. Attended the Columbus College of Art and Design. Lived on Hudson and High, just off of Pearl Alley on 17th, just off 4th and 23rd, and eventually/lastly Grandview. I may not have attended OSU but I lived and breathed it. The flag planting garbage didn’t rub me wrong because we lost. It rubbed me wrong because it’s wrong. I would have been embarrassed if the Buckeyes had done the same. I don’t like disrespecting opponents. You beat them. That shows your dominance. Not a crotch grab, a finger, or a flag. That is a reflection of the lack of respect for sportsmanship. Again, we’ll likely never see eye to eye on this. As I’ll never like it. Even if we’re winning.

I actually don't mind much of this behavior, but in some positions. Wr's, Linebackers, CB's, safeties, etc
In QB's I think they have to be cerebral and don't let emotions get hold into them.
Cool headed would be a attribute I would look for in a QB, not crotch grabbing, diva, money sign, put a target in my back type off QB.
With this type of personality, better be best friends with your OL, and considering most lineman don't like this type of behavior...

One thing we can certainly count on. Every player on every one of our opponents teams will be messing with him. They'll be taunting him and trying to get into his head. We'll quickly find out how well he handles it.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

KWII, Manziel, Gordon.... I disagree - the kid has been a leader on every team he's played on. His motivation is to win. He's gritty and determined (imo) and unquestionably football smart and I think he will be fully aware of what helps the team and what hurts the team .... I fully expect a different style of leadership from him in the NFL than in college. Especially if he sits for a little bit ... he needs to be clearly the better NFL QB for him to be the starter, I am all for having him sit.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Bone I agree with most of your posts and especially your last one. I wanted Darnold but am now in on Baker. Give him solid coaching, which we have with Haley and Zampese, and weapons which I feel we also have, if they can stay on the field, and we will be pleasantly surprised. I have faith in John Dorsey and his staff that they did the right things and will continue to do so.

Actually I think TT will be good for Mayfield. He has a lot of time in the league and has a slightly above .500 record in the NFL. I'm pretty happy they signed Taylor rather than an older QB with diminishing skills.
Let's face it, Mayfield has an average arm and average escapability. I believe he is more accurate than TT, but otherwise I see them as very similar QB's.

One thing we can certainly count on. Every player on every one of our opponents teams will be messing with him. They'll be taunting him and trying to get into his head. We'll quickly find out how well he handles it. Considering we lack veteran leadership, I don't think this whole affair is going to end up well... It never did for the Browns... Yes, its actually very normal for players not wanting to win... gimme a break.. He hasn't won anything is his career. AJ, DW and Tua were the winners. He is an undersized, pocket big mouth QB, he will be next on the Browns QB list. From Nick Foles, Kap, Rosen and Darnold, to name only a few we picked Mayfield... only the Browns

Big problem though, Baker says he already "knows" the NFL game, you didn't know that? http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2018/story/...-transition-nflIn Mayfield's first appearance with his new team, the former Oklahoma quarterback discussed his leadership and said the transition from the Sooners' Air Raid offense to the NFL won't be too difficult. " The game of football is the same," Mayfield said. "It's just a matter of terminology, language and how they teach it, so you're not going to find one guy who is reinventing the wheel." - Baker Mayfield See, Football at the college level is exactly the same as it is at the pro level except terminology, thats what Baker says. I can see it already, Baker and Haley are NOT going to get along. Haley is known for being abrasive, he won't tolerate Baker hotdogging it, doing whatever he wants. Everything else we have tried has failed, so maybe this works out for once. I hope it does, but im not holding my breath.
