And Mayfield was benched as the starter the very next game. Poor behavior from others is no excuse for poor behavior from yourself.
As long as this BS doesn't continue from him as a pro I have no problem with it.
In house and was taught by the coach, I see no wrong but a lesson learned. Oh and the "BENCHING" 2 offensive plays then he returned...lol HC did a good thing and as noted BM is no dummy he got it, lesson learned!
I still don't see the point you are trying to make outside of the fact that he is not the guy you wanted as our QB...Boo Hoo, get a good cry and then come back to us. Again what football person had this anywhere as close to you and a few as a RED FLAG. Where and when. Its only important to you cause you still can't get over Rosen dropping not Mayfield ironically for his off field and personal behavior.
Lets face it thank goodness we got the kid with a lot of heart and soul for the game. What else you got, anything? Come on Pit...if so many GMs and top personnel people won't even remotely concerned. Just tell me why should we? You really think he's psycho?
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
The thing is when someone doesn’t know how to control their emotions they do stupid things because they don’t think clearly. Stupid things like Dwayne Rudd, in celebration, removing his helmet on the field...costing us a game. Now, was Dwayne evil? No he was emotional and not thinking clearly because of it. He made an emotionally based decision. I’m sure without any thought. But that’s the point. To act like being emotionally clouded can’t be detrimental is foolish. To this point in his life Baker has the reputation he has for a reason. It’s not Pit and me just making stuff up. It’s a long history of events. IF he can’t keep his emotions in check it can have a cost. As shown above it doesn’t have to be as flagrant as s finger or a crotch grab. It can be something foolishly emotionally done in ‘celebration’ that hurts the team. Baker has shown a history of emotional outbursts. All we hope is that he learns to control that.
Portland, do you remember college, the emotion and team loyalty you would have. This kid loved his OU his fellow team mates and they loved him. Why do you think he will react and be the same way as a pro. Again you and a few seem to be the only ones concerned. Highsmith? nope, Wolf? nope, Dorsey? nope, Jets? nope, Zona? nope, Any top Personnel guy in the NFL, please let me know.
Do you see my dilemma as you try somehow to convince me that this is a serious problem. I saw the entire development of the game. I saw it escalate. I saw Kansas get a flag, I saw the HC of OU teach him a lesson and the kid learns from his lessons. He got benched for 2 plays. Did this concern the Heisman committee and cost him the Trophy? Nope? NFL GM? Nope. Pit and Portaland dawgs, yep...lol come on dawgs, I know its hard but just laugh at the premise you are trying to make when so so many not named eotab have an opposite reaction.

ehhh, had to delete several posts cause we don't know each other personally and it would not be taken with humor. Lets leave at Show me.
He has to SHOW ME that he is insane and immature. He will convert his fire in a different direction as a PRO. His fire won't diminish but he will use it differently as a pro. The kid knows what he's doing.

I agree. He has to SHOW ME. He has to show me he’s able to control that in which he’s shown little control of. His emotions. Most importantly, which I both believe we believe, he has to show me wins. Just win. Please dear God, win.
Baker’s NFL record is 0-0. He isn’t playing the Jayhawks anymore. Period.
nope, but I would bet based off everything we read about him - and the GM comments, that unlike some in the building last year - 1-31 would not even be in consideration under this kid.

And what he doesn't know will be filled in by Dorsey and Hue. They will cover the emotion angle in depth. He'll be fine.
If that's the type of thing you want to see on the Browns sideline, more power to you. lmao
I'd be curious to know if there are any other camera angles of this exchange - there's another side here, clearly someone out there has his attention. I'm wondering if this is a response to someone else's actions (e.g. the ref only sees the second punch thrown kinda thing). Still, even in a vacuum, this is DEFINITELY a case of "much ado about nothing". I mean, seriously, if this is what people have to crucify a draft pick over, then folks just need to step away from the keyboard and get a new hobby... you're in WAY too deep, lol!!
I honestly cannot believe the amount of attention given to such a small event.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Agreed. If this is all they have to complain over, sounds to me like we made a GREAT pick!
It's unprofessional but so is not shaking hands. In the end you're crushing them, just don't grab your junk, everything else no one would have even cared.
No double standard. If Landry pulls that crap I’ll ride him like a rented mule too. The difference, not that it’s an excuse at all, but the difference is Landry has produced at a high level on the pro level. Baker hasn’t done squat. So until he wins regularly he needs to keep his hand off his [censored] and his mouth shut. Then if he wins regularly he needs to continue the same.
Ok. That's fair. And I'm not saying you, however, but I've talked to several people and read several posts of people here (you can actually read back through and see them), where people wanted Jarvis Landry, but one of their main complaints about Baker were his antics along the sideline....
It's just humorous to me the people complaining about baker grabbing his crotch are some of the same people who wanted Jarvis Landry... that, for anyone who didn't know, is a double standard.
If he can beat Pittsburgh 41-3, he can grab my crotch if he wants.
can we get this in writing?
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I could understand some of this if Baker had ever done this once in a Browns uniform. But as it is - he did it as a kid at college. I've no doubt many on the board have engaged in much more indecent and antisocial behavior at some point in time. Let's give the guy a freaking chance.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
They may have expressed some interest, kicked the idea around, etc - but I don't think NE ever would've pulled the trigger and surrendered their picks. NY would've asked so much to move from #2 to #23.
The possibility of me being wrong though is in itself a possibility hahaha.

No one has claimed he’s done it as a Brown. We’ve only voiced concern that he has a propensity towards such behavior. The concern is that a leopard can’t change his spots. This behavior is based in a personality type. You’re either a crotch grabbing, bird flipping, easily riled type of person or you’re not. Baker is. Can he reign it in? It’s not as much a given as many here make it sound. It’s not just the behavior he has to change. He’s got to reign in his personality type. That’s a harder thing to do. Just because he’s left college doesn’t mean he just switches off his personality type and suddenly becomes a different person. Nor should he. Part of his personaility is firy. Be firy. Brady is firy. Just don’t grab your crotch, or be caught on the field yelling profanity at the opposing team. That’s going to draw flags and make him look like a punk. (I’m not calling him a punk here. I’m merely pointing out how that could occur if he doesn’t change.) Can he work on it? Absolutely. And I honestly hope he does.
His mistake as that he said it was the Patriots. If it were (literally) any other team I would've thought it was possible. The cost to move up that far would've been way more than the Patriots could've afforded, and way way more than the Patriots would've been willing to give up.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Reading all your responses, it appears more to me that you hope he does it, so you can feel right.
Here's one thing I keep thinking about: Sure, Mayfield was the best choice right now. He killed Darnold on the whiteboard, has the statistics, etc.
But, will Darnold be as good (or better) when he's 23? I mean, he's only 20
And that's the million dollar question. But if the FO thinks he would, they would have drafted him. So I would say they believe Darnold will never be as good as Mayfield. Based on our pick.
Maybe, maybe not. They might not want to wait 2-3 years to get to where they are now.
It's just impossible to project how a QB is going to develop.
I like what we have.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I’m a Browns fan. I want to win. I don’t ever have to like the personality of whoever is playing QB for us. I’d hope to, but ultimately some personality types rub me the wrong way. I don’t have to like it, as long as they win.
I dont care, truly. I like guys with fire in their belly and a chip on their shoulder. If the end result is successful, do what you want. If he gets fined, not my money.
I am tired of losing with our principles. Haven't we seen enough disrespectful acts blatantly aimed at our team? Aren't you tired of certain teams seemingly always head hunting our teams and getting away with it because we have to be the good guys?
I don't think Baker is wired to accept certain things he perceives as a slight to him and his team. I for one applaud certain aspects of his in the moment actions. It gets his team fired up and the fans too. How long do you want to play good guy ball with high character guys that don't wanna shake the apple cart? It is time we had a qb or whomever that will fire this team up and get results. Half the time we just look like a team going through the motions without any spark with no tangible leader and that is what we lack and if Baker can be a solid qb and add this fire, I say bring it!!
I am tired of watching the Browns play games and fight moral victorys because we didn't let our emotions out the bag.
