I'm not so sure Williams didn't request Peppers as a LB/S hybrid.

I still don't think Peppers was drafted to be our FS, and I don't think there are any arguments on your side. I believe Peppers simply filled in at a position when the starter went down with injury in training camp.

I can see this take and would actually agree. Kindred came a long way his first year, while Peppers was still Peppers. I'm not saying Peppers was terrible, but I would never give up on him after one year.

8. Jabrill Peppers, S, Cleveland Browns

2017 overall grade: 45.5

Coming out of Michigan, depending on who you asked and at what time of day, you’d hear a different projection on what position Jabrill Peppers would play as a pro. One of the positions you wouldn’t often hear was “true free safety” – and ultimately that’s right where Peppers ended up for the Browns. Peppers lined up as a free safety for Cleveland on 88.2 percent of his defensive snaps through the first 15 weeks of 2017 – he spent just 3.0 percent of his snaps at free safety for Michigan in 2016 – and the results were ugly, as he finished just three games over that stretch with an overall grade of at least 70.0. An injury to Derrick Kindred late in the year caused the Browns to shake things up and in Weeks 16 and 17, Peppers played more of the swiss-army knife role he was accustomed to in college, spending just 32.1 percent of his snaps at free safety during that two week sample. Peppers posted an 81.5 overall grade in Week 17 against the Steelers and in Week 16 he posted his best run-defense grade of the year (83.0). If Cleveland can keep Peppers closer to the line of scrimmage in 2018 his grade will almost certainly be better in Year 2.

Regarding this PFF grade, its predicated on productive stats n reps.

Last year he was utilized in a position of passiveness. 30 yards off the ball n hardly any chance to make a differenc let alone a positive stat to up the PFF grade.

People complain about how poorly Peppers played FS but he was doing what he was told to do by Williams; play very deep and discourage the QB from throwing deep. We simply don't know how good he could have been if he had been tasked with playing at normal depth and given more normal FS responsibilities.

Yes, Peppers was still covering the deep ball even when the play was a screen pass...

Saying Peppers played well this season is just ridiculous. And teams had no need to play it deep against us... imagine if they did...

What a major disappointment GW is...

From this interview nobody would ever say he was the DC for a 0-16 team.... get a grip GW, you and your D sucked...

Let's pretend that the Browns will be granted ONE additional draft pick before the season starts...as part of the NFL's consideration/apology for constantly screwing with us.

Let's also pretend that you have your choice of the best college player - regardless of age or eligibility - at any and every position on the filed. I don't want the guy's name...just the position he plays.

What position do you choose to improve?

Well...this year's guys are already taken so from the next year's crop I'd say either DT or DE (seriously though, it's going to be a crazy D-line year).

Or are you just saying "what position still needs improved the most."

I'm good with both answers really. Where I was going though...would be to see where people think we MOST need an upgrade/depth/improvement/competition.
