HOUSTON - Johnny Manziel was hospitalized after suffering a reaction to an increased dosage in lithium, according to a statement made by the former Texas A&M star.
According to reports, Manziel was playing at a golf tournament in Humble at the time he had the reaction.
Here is his full statement:
"Thank you everyone for your concern and kind messages. Unfortunately I had a reaction to an increased dosage in Lithium which I take for me Bipolar disorder. It was a scary moment and I'm especially grateful for the staff at the hospital and all that they've done in the last 24 hours." I had no Idea JM was Bibolar

Question for healthcare providers here: Lithium's pretty heavy duty, isn't it? Back in college I did a quarter of work-study at the Brecksville VA for a Psych course I took, and Lithium was what they gave the schizophrenic patients. I didn't think it was a "retail" type prescription, more of an in-patient treatment type drug, but I don't really know.

It’s very effective in treating bipolar disease. It is something that needs to be monitored closely as it can cause toxicity...especially when used with alcohol. Not saying JM was... It's really hard on the kidneys if you don't take in enough fluid (non-alcoholic of course). Also, the therapeutic range has a narrow window and can vary greatly from individual to individual....levels have to be checked regularly and dosages adjusted. Anymore, it's only used as a last resort as there are much safer alternatives for mood stabilization.

He could now be a Pro Bowl NFL quarterback. But like Yogi Berra said "The game's 90% mental..."
As all Brown's fans are probably aware, he's still the last Browns' QB to win 2 games.

JM was never going to be an All-Pro QB, imo. I don't think he can - or ever could - even play in this league. He has the combination curse of being much too small, too slow, thick as a brick mentally, and a perpetual teenager emotionally.

I still don't think he could make it in the NFL Oh I think he could have made it... probably not pro-bowl, maybe not even franchise type guy... but if he did everything right, I think he could have been in the league for a long time. He's less than an inch shorter.. and had a slightly faster 40 time than the guy we just picked up from the Bills to begin turning around our franchise... There is absolutely no reason for me to believe that Manziel couldn't have been at least as good as Tyrod Taylor...

I think Manziel could have been a star. He had the arm, he is a smart kid. His demons, diagnosed medical issues and drugs derailed him.
I was high (no pun) on manziel, he had a lot of raw talent. He looked freaking amazing on the field for the Browns when you put into context he was doing cocaine and drinking every night. Doesn't he have one of our most recent wins lol.

I really wish when we had this guy his mental state had been recognized and treated.. We all know how a mental disease affects a person.. I'm pretty sure we all know that when someone struggling with a mental disease acts in ways that are odd and unacceptable to most people. Surely seems when a person suffering from such a disease gets the right help and medicine..they can become a totally different person that fits into society in a more accepted way. Im glad to read where Johnny isn't drinking anymore and has found the help needed for him to fit into such a judgmental society.. I hope he does his best in the CFL and has a successful career. Mental disorders are nothing to laugh at..make fun of or push a person to feeling less than they do. From Athletes to non Athletes I can only hope those that struggle with one can find the right help needed for them to have some peace in life. As far as JM and the time he spent as a Brown.. Not being able to change the past...so the what if isn't worth the talk...But just if he had control of it then....

Manziel will see his first CFL action for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a pre-season game this Friday. The 'Cats have uniforms near identical to the Steelers (I don't know, or care, who had them first)...

I can't believe how this kid crashed and burned yet still makes headlines in the environment where he indeed crashed and burned.
Each time I see his name I'm reminded of another top pick failure. I also get concerned over Baker and his immaturity issues over and over again each time I see Manziel's name.

Yeah, Montreal is a pretty nice city. I haven't been there in a long time, but I enjoyed the culture and history of the city. Seemed like a classy city to me.

i'll never believe a place in quebec is better than cleveland. you guys should all just to move to buffalo if you won't allow to me to dump on french canadians. montreal is a beautiful city, but there are much better french colonies in the western hemisphere. obviously new orleans being the crown jewel, and the french carribean being a great 3 day weekend get away.

Montreal IS a beautiful city for sure, especially Old Montreal, and the people there are very nice. You hear about the French being rude but I've never experienced that.
And the women there are outstanding.
