Yep, Eastern time zone it is.

But not here, in Colorado, nor is it in California (where IGN is based). The player ratings were put up at around 11am Pacific - Noon here in Colorado, so .... around 2pm tomorrow for you.

Bodden 82?
Roye 75!!?
Peek 64!!!!!!!!!!???? Hes practically useless with that rating
Williams should be better then Thompson
Carter 69
Cribbs 56!!!!!!!!!!!!, whats the point of even having him in the game, that has got to be one of the lowest ratings I have ever seen for a person. I bet Josh isnt too happy about it.

EA sucks at ratings!!! Good thing I play PC version and the guys at Football-Freaks come out with regular updates

Winslow's catching is 86, Edwards is 87...

Thats enough of a reason not to buy the game.

I guess my boy Minter is on the free agent list..

and they screwed Cribbs big time...

I'm happy Harrison has a little more speed...

I didnt think Quinn would be a 77 speed... b/c he's faster than Frye.. he will be my starter..

the defensive line sux...

offensive line is pretty solid this year..

Sean Jones should have been a 90 overall...

calvin johnson has 86 catch NOW thats a reason not to buy the game it should be no less than 98 AND he only has 96 speed i guess 4.35 isnt fast enough

The catch rating still doesn't sit well with me, does EA research the players at all?

Winslow caught 89 and dropped 2 or 3...

Edwards caught 61 and dropped around 10 (I'm not sure how many it was, I'm 90% sure Winslow only dropped 2 or 3 because he's my favorite player and I remember pretty much everything he did lol.)

It's so obvious that Winslow has better hands...

Also, I can't believe Wimbley is only an 86, Calvin Johnson, a rookie, is an 87... Higher than a player who produced 11 1/2 sacks (I believe that was the number not looking it up.)

Needless to say I hate madden's ratings.

Roye - 75??
Peek - 64
Fraser - 61
Cribbs - 56
Bodden - 82
Wimbley - 86 (What can I say? I love the kid and think he should have been at least a 90)

Damn, they jipped us pretty badly, Cribbs a 56? OUCH! and 89 speed I don't know about that one there, and WTF is a up with Peek's rating?

Needless to say they ripped off Bodden and Jones again, did they watch the games where Bodden blanketed CJ???

Time to go to my favorite feature, playor editor. Yeah it's really weird, last year Roye was at least an 84, what happened? PLAYER EDITOR! Did they get our uni's right this time?

What about the stadium orange seats? Man any one of us could do the job better than them.

I sure hope they did.

But in a video I saw that the Brown pants are in the game. Hopefully they aren't the default away jersey like last year ....

A funny thing about these ratings. The next Gen ratings have alot to do with the overall. I play the PC version as I mentioned which is still current Gen and will be again this year and to tide me over for the next few days I put these ratings into my Madden 07 game. Some overalls are vastly different. Some lower some higher. Now keep in mind that there are alot of ratings that are not in current gen. But here is what some look like.

Eric Wright 74
Thomas 83
Roye 82
Lewis 88
Robaire 85
Carter 77
Steiner 91
Peek 72
Winslow 91
Cribbs 74
Harrison 76
Wimbley 93
Wilson 77

Everyone else I think is pretty much the same

verall Score: 5 out of 5

Pros:

* Smooth and responsive gameplay
* Great visuals
* Addictive Superstar mode

Cons:

* Lame radio announcer
* Still lacking online leagues

Football fans, your wives and girlfriends are about to hate you. Such is the engrossing quality of Madden NFL 08. While you took your team to its third consecutive Super Bowl in Franchise mode and played through a season of Superstar as Calvin Johnson, dinner got cold and your relationship is in shambles. The only thing you could do worse to your woman than buy Madden 08 would be to hire Najeh Davenport to hide in her closet.

But that's just love, right?

Right. Because with Madden 08, EA Sports finally got it right. Players move how you want them to move, teams mimic their real-life tendencies, the view from the gridiron is gorgeous, and playing with a friends is simply addicting. While the game does have some minor hiccups, Madden 08 is without a doubt the best football game to be released in several years and is a must-have for any red-blooded football fan.

It was hard to say just what made Madden so ho-hum the last few years, but the sluggish controls and unremarkable AI made the game about as exciting as a staring contest with Art Shell. In Madden 08, the controls are tighter and more responsive than ever. As a result, the game is fast, twitchy fast, but it's also smart enough that a guy like Michael Vick won't be able to scramble 62 yards in the backfield before throwing a dart to the end zone.

This new level of control is based mostly upon a slick branching animation system. Let's say you take a toss to the left with all-world tailback LaDainian Tomlinson. After following your fullback and a pulling guard, you burst into the second level to find a strong safety charging at your face. With a tap of the highlight stick, you throw a juke that leaves him hugging air, only to be met by a linebacker. You throw a quick spin move but he catches you in the act, wraps you up and is about to drive you into the ground when -- WHAM -- the free safety dives in to finish the play but misses LT and hits his teammate instead.

Suddenly you are on your way again, ready to stiff-arm, hurdle and high step to the pylon. Everything from manually catching bombs with a receiver to de-cleating ballcarriers using the hit stick feels like you controlled it, not like an animation. In short, the days of canned auto-play are gone. You could see something new and exciting with every play thanks to the infinite possibilities of these branching animations. Gang tackles, mid-air collisions, leaping over the goal line on a simple dive -- this is next-generation football.

It also just so happens that these animations are gorgeous to look at, from Reggie Bush doing his trademark summersault for six, or a Chad Johnson river dance after a score. This is because the game runs at a buttery smooth 60 frames per second. So when Peyton Manning annoyingly calls three audibles and a hot route at the line of scrimmage, it never looked so good.

Watch the HitStick 2.0 feature in Madden 08.

It even sounds good -- EA recorded many of the voices of real NFL quarterbacks like Manning and Tom Brady. You can almost make out Jeff Garcia's lisp. One of the low points of Madden, however, is the radio announcer, a generic play-by-play man that would be better suited to hosting infomercials than professional football games.

But football is really all about the players, and that's clearly where EA puts its major focus in 08. New this season are weapon categories in which stars are broken up by their abilities, be it brick wall defenders like Ray Lewis or Smart QBs like Brady. These weapons will have access to special abilities too -- smart players can see an opponent's play art about once a game, while Spectacular Catch receivers can make amazing grabs no one else can. The goal here is to make NFL stars play like stars and to exploit matchups, and in this, EA succeeded -- a great touch, overall.

Off the field, you can jump right into quick games with your buddies as well as the standard franchise mode, this time with up to 32 teams, ideal for a fraternity house full of football fans. Unfortunately, multiplayer franchise is limited to offline-only as EA has yet to match the online leagues of 2K Sports. Still, you do have the option to create players and a custom team, building a stadium from the bleachers up.

Probably the most enjoyable single-player mode is Superstar, a breath of fresh air from traditional 11-on-11 football. You take control of a created player or a rookie like Adrian Peterson and play as that player his entire career, from the NFL combine, to agent signing, to practice, to Canton. If you already created an All American in NCAA Football 08, you can import him too.

Online, the ESPN partnership is in full effect with downloadable video highlights and segments from ESPN radio. Then again, we would trade all of that in for online leagues because most of us already have, you know, cable TV and radios.

In the end, Madden 08 is simply superb. If you could only own one next-gen football, this is it. That is, unless the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader sim finally comes out. Maybe your girlfriend will get behind that one. Then again, maybe not.

There is a good review over at gamespot.com

It got an 8.5 ( They grade games very hard but anything around 8.5+ are really good games)

Problems they saw were mostly commentary (ESPN radio dude) and the fact they still don't have an ESPN-like pregame, postgame, or week in review. I wish they would do that (maybe next year)

Yeah, I just picked up my copy for the Ps3, pretty solid. Forget about it only running at 30FPS, I don't see a problem personally.

The game looks great, but I'm just not used to the funky controls, I like the ps2 madden 07 controls where sprint is actually X instead of R2.

OH, and playor editor is back! The people I edited first were Roye, Bodden, Cribbs, crap I forgot about Peek.

But anyway there are a crap load of features in this one, also a lot of things you can do play wise, before the snap on the defense and offense.

Some observations I made, they changed the stadium seats to the correct color of orange, when it rains and you try to cut back, you sometimes slip, good gand tackling, and all new animations.

The whole thing ran pretty smoothly for me. Let me know what you guys think of it.

my cousin is getting me a copy, so i won't have this until next week... you guys gotta let me know how it is

did they bring back the full training camp mode (with the drills for different positions, and then you used those drills in game situations) ?

they had something like a training camp mode in 07, but it was AWFUL

who's the voice during the game? is it just some generic guy, like last year?

why no michaels/madden? crap i'd even settle for mike tirico's non-football voice...
