I had a 1984 Chrysler Laser.
It had faulty brake lights.
As in the car would be parked, and the brake lights would randomly come on and drain the battery.
I was working at the FBI at the time, in this security job.
So, when I was in the Command Center, I would turn the camera to look at my car in the parking lot and see if the brake lights were on.
If they were, I would run out there and turn them off.
haha. Stupid car and weird job.

1988 Plymouth Firefly.
Great in the city and great for mileage.
Never got laid in it, though. Too small to be desirable for that sort of thing, (the car I mean).

1972 Ford Gran Torino 351 Cleveland 105 Miles an Hour Hah. I had one of those. It wasn't my 1st car, but it was fast, and impossible to kill. Mine was a '75 though. I moved to Cleveland to manage a Domino's, and by that point, my poor car was just falling apart. It had been hit about a dozen times. One day, one of my drivers came into the store. It was snowing like crazy. (imagine that in Maple Heights) Anyway, he comes in, and is all freaked out. He says, "Umm, Chris .... I slid in the parking lot, and hit your car." I asked him if his car was OK, and he said yes. I told him not to worry about it. What was one more dent? lol I had bought a CB for my car, and I went to the bowling alley one night to play pool, and someone busted out my window to steal the CB, and my crappy AM/FM/Cassette. (High tech back in '86/87) They used a crowbar and just ripped the dash to pieces. That irritated me more than anything else. I sat in my car with a baseball bat for about a month (on my days off) waiting to see someone breaking into a car. I swear I was going to splatter them if I saw someone doing it. My 1st car was a candy apple red 1972 Grand Prix. I loved that car. A friend of mine was a student mechanic at the JVS. He was a mechanical magician, and he loved working on my car. lol He redid the suspension in that car, rebuilt the transmission and put in a shift kit. He rebuilt the top end of the engine, and the carburetor. A few times he would come see me at work (we worked together) and he would say "You got $20? There is something I want to try on your car. lol I don't really know everything he did, but that car went from fast to scary. I blew away more Mustang and Camaro fanboys than I could count. That was a great car, until some old guy ran a red light, and smashed the crap out of my car. He hit me hard enough that the engine was ripped off the transmission. It was a 25 MPH zone, and he pushed my car sideways about 10 feet. (where you could see the tire marks) He said that he was only going 25, and that he had the light. He could not have been going that slow, but they "couldn't tell who was at fault" anyway. *Sigh* My favorite car had to be laid to rest. I later bought a 1971 Grand Prix, in high gloss black. It was maybe even a better car than my original one, but it just wasn't the same. I loved my 1st one, but only "really liked" my 2nd. That car moved to Columbus with me, and back. I did everything I could reasonably do when I moved back .... changed the oil and filter, the spark plugs, cap, and wires. The only thing I didn't do was the points, so as I was moving back, with my car loaded full of all of my junk, right short of the Mansfield exit ...... my car conks out. It was, of course, a Saturday at about 4PM. No one was open, so I had to call my mom, and she got hold of my best friend, and he and his girl came down to get me. (no cell phones in those days) The culprit? The points backed out on the drive, and they tightened them back up, and I went back down to get my car. Right around Akron, the points backed out enough again to stall the car. *sigh* Fortunately it was an easy fix to re-tighten them, and get home. I think that it was about a $5 fix for the parts. I had never heard of points going like that. Maybe that's why I never loved that car quite the same as the 1st. lol Great memories, even if they weren't all great at the time.

You had a CB...lol Those were all the rage back then...
I remember my second car was a Geo Storm.
I put 12 inch subwoofers and 355 watt amp in the trunk.
And a CB up front.
I was stylin' lol That car could practically levitate itself.
And I had the animated rainbow lights around the license plate.
Up until the point I got pulled over and Mr Cop told me I couldn't have those lights. lol

I started at Martin Chevy, in Warren, and they also sold Geos. I sold mostly used cars, but the Geos were great cars for people buried in their old loan, or for those with questionable credit and/or little money down. It was crazy the rebates, dealer money, and financing available on those. The nice thing was that the dealership was always so happy to move them that they would offer huge "minis" on them. (minimum commissions) I was working with this little old lady, and she couldn't find a car she could comfortable get in and out of. I remembered that we had this hard top Tracker on the new car sales floor. I took her over there, and she could easily drive it. That was a $1000 mini. Loved it. It had some fancy graphics on it, and she said "You don't think this is too cool for me, do you?" lol Her kids said that she could drive it, and that was what mattered. I only stayed at Martin for about a year before moving on ........for some really stupid reasons ...... but she was one of my very favorite customers.

I didn't buy my Geo new. I was a poor college kid. I got it used somewhere.
My first "new" car was a Volkswagon Passat. A car I grew to absolutely despise. Terrible car. Broke down on me multiple times. I was hitchhiking on the side of the freeway in the dark, because of that damn car.
So, I hate volkswagon.
Never again.

I once bought a used VW Rabbit. I was financially embarrassed at the time, and I figured the price, plus it being a manual .... and a 4 cylinder ...... The damn thing blew up in less than a week. Literally.

1977 Ford Mustang (the hatchback that looked like a Pinto).
Favorite memory was getting rid of it. I learned a lot tearing it down and rebuilding it with my dad, but working on cars was his lov not mine. And working on the car was never a ending ordeal.

76 Buick Skylark 455 Four Barrel Mine was midnight blue with metallic flake. Not mine but like mine except the paint: Seats laid way back and she would fly! You could watch the gas needle move down when you floored that engine. Had her for two years and wrapped her around a telephone pole in an ice storm while going about 15 mph. Drivers door moved to 1/3 the way in front of the steering wheel at that speed! Crazy.

I have two different ones:
'53 Ford 3 on column -- having to stop and go under car to untangle the shift levers so I could get into gear. Happened often and no fun in the winter. That sometimes became a passenger penalty depending who it was.
'58 Pontiac Catalina -- going around the bridge curve from I271N to I90 W - would floor it, windows open, and with the downpointed exhaust near the outside curb the noise was like a rocket kicking in - when there was some trash it would create a cloud.

1996 Ford Taurus. It was the ugliest green I've ever seen

1972 Chevy Monte Carlo. Dark brown with tan vinyl roof and bucket seats. I loved the look and idea of it, however, it broke down ALL. THE. TIME. I had it for four years and eventually sold it for a maroon 1981 Honda Prelude, which drove me all over the US and all over Eastern Canada inc. up into Nova Scotia. Only thing I ever had to replace on the Honda was a starter motor. Always dependable.

I got my first job at 15 years old washing dishes at a restaurant in Grand Rapids, OH. There was no machine. Just me and three sinks. I got paid $2 an hour. I saved every penny until I had saved enough to buy my first car. An orange 1977 Toyota Corolla SR5 Liftback. It was 11 years old. Had about 90,000 miles on it. A rusted out quarter panel on the back. It was ugly but it ran great and it was mine. I loved that stupid thing. Sadly one day I made a left turn across traffic and didn’t see the oncoming Ford Escort until it was too late. My car was totaled. Ironically the next car I bought was a 1983 Ford Escort. Biggest pile of garbage I’ve ever owned. I spent more time under the hood than behind the wheel. I hated that damn thing. Was glad when it finally blew its head gasket. Good riddance. Last Ford, only Ford, I’ll ever own.

My first car was a Subaru Legacy Wagon. I'm not even sure of the year or specific model. I bought it for $900 with my girlfriend, so that we could drive around our college town. We ended up selling it a few months later for $1200 and made a profit on it. The first car that I owned out-right was a Saturn coupe, that again, was so memorable that I can't even remember the model or year. I owned that car long enough to do job interviews out of college, get a real job, and buy my 1995 Mitsubishi 3000 GT.

Mine was a 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo, burnt orange in color, that I bought in 1984. I loved the swivel seats. Had that car until 1994 when I purchased a new '94 Ford Thunderbird.

The back seat of my 68 Ford Fairlane was littered with 8-track tapes. Wasn't much else going on back there in my teen years. So it goes, sometimes. But it was a fast car. 302 V8 that gave you whiplash when you punched it. I wonder if the guy in the tricked out 67 GTO remembers the time I almost ran him into a parked car when he challenged me to race at the red light on W58th and Clark. I was lmao when I heard his tires screeching as he slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting the car parked in the curb lane about 500 feet from the light.

Not sure this is exactly an answer to you thread title because it is not a favorite memory. Saying that, "my first car" my dad bought for me to drive. I had enough money to buy my own at 16 but my dad would not let me.
I assume he was afraid I would kill myself in a faster car so he bought me a 1973 AMC 4 door Ambassador. It was banana yellow, white vinyl top & brown interior. We referred to cars like this as a dog. I think went 0-60 in about a week. It is amazing I ever had a date with this car.
I will say that I was always able to drive my friends when their parents would not let them drive because it was too foggy, snowy, to far to drive etc, I always could. So I guess it was a positive memory. My favorite car was my blue 1977 T Bird. It was huge by today's standards.
By the way, GM Dawg I loved the Grand Prix. My best friend had one like that, just red.

My first car was an '89 Chevrolet Celebrity 4-door. It had a 2.8L V6 and 3-speed auto. Bought it when I was 16 for $900, which was every dollar I had ever earned. I was so proud of that car at the time, I seriously thought it was so cool. I had headlight covers on it, Beretta Z26 wheels, a rear spoiler from an 80's Firebird, a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler, and 12-inch subwoofers that would rattle the whole car. It wasn't very reliable, but I loved it. I have lots of great memories and some pretty wild ones, it's hard to narrow it down to one favorite story in particular. I'll have to give it more thought

My dad gave me my first car when I was 15. To young to drive it I spent my time cleaning it up and otherwise working on it. It was a floaty boat. When I turned 16 I "upgraded" to a 1963 Rambler American. LOL
Favorite memory: The Rambler was a unibody, meaning it had no frame. Over time the floorboard rusted all the way across from left to right about where your feet were. That weakened it so that when applying the brakes the car would hump up at that rusted spot. The memory part is that I once had a girl in the passenger seat and when I braked to turn a corner the passenger door swung open with her hanging on it. That scared the crap out of both of us but we laughed about it an hour later. After that she sat closer to me and farther from the door. Looking back I can't believe I kept driving that death trap.

My first car was a 1972 Olds Cutlass S. It was green with a white vinyl roof, and of course fake hood vents. I paid $350($1 per cubic inch) for it in 1981. Favorite memory was actually just buying my first car. It seemed like a big thing at 18.

After 80,000 miles, or so, you could pretty much count on major mechanical work being needed. That was, of course, if the body was still intact. (especially in northern Ohio) I read an article that said that the average age of a car in the 70s was 5 years. My '71 and '72 were past their expected life spans by the time I bought them. (by almost double)

Found my only pic of my vega. I bought it when I was making a little above minimum wage as head cook at Bob Evans. Had a part time job at Hardees too before my Bob Evans job and was going to high school.

'77 Triumph Spitfire $4500. total/out the door. I was 21 years old. Damn, that car was a chick magnet. I swore I'd still be driving it when I retired. Made it 11 years... then had to sell it to pay taxes (ouch). Bucket list item: get a fully-restored one as a retirement present. Fave memory: 10-day vacation to Wash DC/east coast.
