In college Tayor never reached 60% completion in three years averaging 57.2%.
He was a sixth round selection for Baltimore and he didn't play much at all. He is 6' 3/4" and weighs 218 lbs. Runs 4.55.
In three years with Buffalo as a starter he averaged 62.6%.
TD to int's for the three years as a starter: 20 td's 6 int's 17 to 6 14 to 4 =======================================================
So Tyrod Taylor is the starter for the 2018 Cleveland Browns what can we expect?
Honestly I have not seen him play except for a few highlights.
He has quickness. He can avoid tacklers and run. His release is decent. He has proven in the NFL he can be somewhat accurate. Ball placement nothing special. He can escape pressure and throw on the run. He doesn't turn it over. Not many int's in his time as a starter. He is kind of reckless holding the ball when escaping pressure and running.
He is the same size as Baker but faster. He has played in like type weather that he will face here. He will have a fair amount of talent around him with some offensive weapons to work with along with good protection. Running game should be above average. Receivers should not be a problem.
Given what he has shown to date and what he will have here; we should expect he will be way better than what we have seen for us.
How will that transfer to wins? I don't know but we should be able to stay in games and win some.

He won’t have four games against the Jets and Dolphins either. The AFCN is a different animal. I don’t have time now so I pose this to others... I wonder what his stat comparisons are like against playoff caliber teams as compared to bottom dweller teams. Did he rack up his season stats against lesser teams? How’d he play against NE?

I expect him to drop back hold the ball for an eternity and then either run or overthrow his target. Buffalos defense and run game won their games despite Taylor's crappy play.

I expect about the same. 14-20 TDs, 4-8 INT's
I will say that Buffalo had probably the worst WRs in the league last year. Shady McCoy lead in receptions with 59, Clay had 49.
Did yall know that Logan Thomas played tight end for them? Like Quarterback out of Virginia tech Logan Thomas? lmao so much for "Big Arm" qb's.

It will be interesting to see how he does with much better weapons.

Assuming our WRs end up being better than Buffalo's from last year, that should cancel out the "AFC North" factor. Heck, the AFC North has moved into more of a passing division than one know for defense.

Last years stats on him don't agree with you. 62.6% Completions 2799 Yards 14 TDs 4 INT's 89.2 Rating. I know that stats don't tell the whole story, but these are respectable numbers. I'd take that from him next year.

It will be interesting to see how he does with much better weapons. Agreed. If Gordon can stay on the straight and narrow, we'll have a far better receiving core than the Bills did. 1) Gordon 2) Landry 3) Njoku 4) DeValve/Coleman/Calloway Mix in the Duke and Hyde (who is a decent pass catcher as well), and we have some things happening. I'm looking for Baker to start the week after the Bye, toward the end of the season, assuming we aren't in playoff contention. I'd like Tyrod to get this offense to gel together and become a cohesive unit in Training Camp. Baker can work his way in after the rest of the players are comfortable together. So I expect to see a lot of Tyrod Taylor. The guy's not a stud, but he's better than what we've had lately. And hopefully the players/coaches on this football team can match up to what he had in Buffalo. As a starter, he's never won less than 7 games. And while Miami and NYJ might seem weak, are they really that much less than the Bengals and Dolphins? I mean, didn't the Dolphins play in the playoffs two years ago, and the Jets just barely missed the playoffs with Fitzmagic. Over the past 3 years, the Jets have won 20 games and lost 26. The Dolphins have won 21 games. So that's like the Dolphins averaged 7 wins a year, and the Jets almost 7. Could be worse. I expect a mobile safe QB throwing a lot of short passes to Jarvis Landry/Duke Johnson. He'll help bring this offense together and finally help us get some wins. Hopefully we'll be able to get him to push the ball down the field a little more this year to Njoku and Gordon. I imagine that Haley will be able to create some gameplans that fit Taylor's strengths.

I don't think Baker will start this year outside of injury or really bad play by Tyrod. I expect Tyrod will play really smart football with short fast passes being spread around as he dissects teams in our division. The test will come around mid season when we expect him to know the offense and we try to start throwing the ball deep. Is he going to let it rip or will he just check everything down and play it safe too much.
He has never had this much talent to work with so it will be fun to see if he takes that next step as a QB. If he does then Baker might not see the field for several years as I feel there is no way they won't ride a hot QB who takes us to the playoffs.

I have a few observations regarding Taylor:
Strengths: --Very good runner --Doesn't throw many interceptions --Very tough guy who can take a hit --Stand-up guy
Concerns: --Holds the ball way too long --Leaves pocket when he shouldn't --Does not throw w/anticipation --Throws after guys break open --Not an accurate passer on intermediate throws --Doesn't read coverages very well
Summary:
He's better than we have had recently, but he is a very limited qb and won't win games for you.

I expect him to continue to take care of the ball, make the plays with his feet when needed/there and operate the offense in an average fashion... he don't need to be above average or elite, just able to operate it.
I'd be very pleased with that.

He won’t have four games against the Jets and Dolphins either. The AFCN is a different animal. You are correct, now he is playing FOR the equivalent of the Jets... I also don't get this narrative that the AFCN is still this monster black and blue defense division... that hasn't been reality for a while.. As far as Tyrod, his 5 best games last year by Rating were Denver, Atlanta, Oakland, NYJ, and Miami.. those 5 he was over 100... ironically the only one the Bills lost, was to the Jets. He did not fare well against the Pats in either game.. His completion % seems to run hot and cold.. his average was 62.6, which is reasonable... but he had a few well over 70%.. and a few down near 50%...

I think that is half the summary. The other half is won't lose games for you. That is something we haven't seen from a Browns Qb in a long long time

Until we get our RT and LT gelling along with the interior, Tyrod will be scrambling more than Haley wants for awhile. Add to that: Devalve is probably our best blocking TE on the roster - which may not be saying much - and Hyde or Chubb will have to step up in pass protection because Duke will rightly often be used as the outlet.
In short, if he can avoid injury, we can expect improvement at the position (but not quite as much as some believe).
Keep him healthy , and he'll win 2 or 3 games for us in the winter .
Maybe I'm stating the obvious.
It still amazes me Kizer was mostly upright for 15 games last year .

Fells is our best blocking TE, by far. He will probably be used to help whoever our LT winds up being, at least at 1st.
Chris Hubbard will be our RT, and he played for Haley last year in Pittsburgh. I don't think there will be much of a problem there.

For the price, Haley must be pretty confident in Hubbard at RT. He was a pretty immediate signing
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

If we continue to throw the ball 2 in every 3 plays, I don't think he will be our QB for much time.
But now that we have tanked for Mayfield, maybe we can start playing ball

I just did a quick survey of how various sites placed Taylor in their QB rankings for the last 3 years.
Pro Football Focus 2015 - 10 2016 - 20 2017 - 12
NFL . com 2015 - 12 2016 - 18 2017 - 18
Pro Football Reference (QBR) 2015 - 8 2016 - 18 2017 - 16
PFF is probably the most pure stat driven incorporating multiple factors NFL . com is probably the most subjective (QB popularity affecting results) PFR was simply the QBR category. Further invest could probably yield more comprehensive results.

I expect Tyrod Taylor to be a better version of Brian Hoyer. Who wouldn't have taken Hoyer at any point of the season last year?

I completely agree. Taylor is solidly in the middle of the pack, which is better than we've seen in years.

Can he do it with a bottom of the league Running game, I don't think he can. He's worst than Hoyer in my opinion, probably more consistent, but we don't know what Hoyer could do with a good running game to support him on his bad days...

the "AFC North" factor. Heck, the AFC North has moved into more of a passing division than one know for defense. Honestly, there is no "AFC North factor" beyond the Cleveland Browns being two automatic W's for each team in our division. Neither the offenses, nor the defenses - or anything else, really - are any more special than in any other division. We literally prop up all of their records by how terrible we have been.
Browns is the Browns

LeSean McCoy and the OL were the real starts with the Bills, not TT. But if he was, then we made a heck of a deal.... All i'm saying is that if you're QB is rushing for 500 yards a season, it accounts for a fair amount of your team's rushing yards. 500/16 is about 31 yards per game rushed by the QB. That helps push those rankings up the board. Lesean was clearly their biggest threat and their number two RB always had some production, but Tyrod had his share of yards and TDs. All which helped that team get ranked number 1 in rushing. He's a very good athlete you know. Not Michael Vick, but as athletic as almost any starting QB in the league. 4.51 40 at the combine and what not. It's part of his game. Pulling the ball in and running for some yards. But he's pretty smart about it and he's good at protecting himself.

I expect Taylor to NOT lose games for us and NOT hold back the development of our young passcatchers (Njoku, Calloway and co). That's the long and short of my expectations because he's a vet QB that we traded a 3rd(?) round pick for.
1. The Bills traded away Taylor 2. for a 3rd rounder
Neither of those things should lead you to lofty expectations. Baker should be doing all he can to be ready sooner rather than later.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I get what you are saying although some of the negatives I don't agree with completely. You have a purpose when you post. You think you are just posting truths but a lot are opinions posted as truths.
Lets take your last sentence. Very limited QB? Does he have limitations in what he can do...sure but his experience has him understanding these weaknesses and he avoids them its not this OH NO he cannot do this we are doomed.
Won't win games for us???? That is one of the most ridiculous statements you have stated in a while. Here, actually this pretty much describes what you see in TT and yet he went and WON THE GAME for the Bills. In his way, by sticking with what he does best. Not in elite QB fashion but methodically sticking with his prowess and guess what? WINNING GAMES.
I'm trying to think what is your motive here...Oh I get it, I know you hate the Mayfield pick and think you are this QB guru guy and your guy dropped like few do. But if you make TT look worse than he does, you can set this up so that Mayfield must suck cause he cannot beat out TT for the starting position.
I've known you for a long time. You are cunning and smart. I get it and see what you're doing...lol you have become very predictable over the years. You know what, I do miss you when you take your little vacations. It is boring. But your agenda posting is obvious. Good subtle start lol Kansas City, Mo. -- If there was any sign that Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor had changed after getting bench, it was subtle.
It was in his smirk when asked about the quarterback "competition" on Wednesday or in his evasive answer about his relationship with Sean McDermott. But Taylor made a point to keep whatever he was feeling internal. He didn't show his teammates what getting benched for Nathan Peterman did to him.
And then on Sunday, like he had been all week, Taylor was his usual self. He didn't turn the ball over while throwing for 183 yards, rushing for 27 and throwing a touchdown in a 16-10 win. He wasn't spectacular and missed some opportunities, but Taylor's return helped bring stability to a unit that badly needed it.
"Yeah, anytime you get your starting quarterback back it stabilizes things," Bills guard Richie Incognito said with a laugh. Honestly, it was just business as usual. There was a change. We were all supportive of the decision. And then to go back to Tyrod, which we know and love and are comfortable with, we didn't skip a beat. We didn't want to make it a distraction and went out there and got the win."
McDermott committed to Taylor as the starter only for the Bills' next game against the Patriots. That probably won't bother Taylor, either. The win over the Chiefs improved the Bills to 6-5. Maybe McDermott's Peterman experiment will end up costing the Bills a playoff spot, but the locker room has confidence in its quarterback again. Ver was right in his assessment of Taylor and more than fair as well. If Taylor wasn't leaving a ton of plays on the field the bills sure as hell wouldn't have benched him in the middle of a playoff run. They also would not have traded him for a 3 at the end of the year.
They were winning despite him. He can make a few plays with his legs and check down constantly. Occasionaly hit a decent deep throw.

Living an hour outside Buffalo for the last 20 football seasons .. i know way more about the Jill’s than i’d like ... *L* ...
Vers has a very good assessment of TT ... he’s also correct in that most on here over rate him ... here’s the twist ... and no i don’t think TT is the one term solution and i do believe he’s overrated on here ... but this does need to be brought up ... its going to make him more productive ...
Everyone talks about his lack of weapons in buffalo ... thats partially true ... he had Robert Woods til last year who is a very underrated reciever ... he had a fine year last year in St. Louis and he’s better than most know .. he also had Shady as a reciever .. SHADY IS A RECIEVING WEAPON ...
While at the same time ... TT does throw a nice deep ball and he had no one to go deep too once Watkins got hurt ... he certainly had no one like Gordon to throw deep too ...
Anyhow what no one ever mentions is the coaching he’s had there ... he played for Rex Ryan who is the Chuck Knox of this generation for two years .... *LOL* ...
Then he had McDermott who is a D guy and made it clear from the day he was hired he wanted TT out ... he got STUCK with him last year ... literarally ... he wanted nothing to do with him ...
He goes from that to Haley and Hue ... with JG and Landry ..... its got to make him more productive ...
Our coaching and the skill sets of our talent should help quite a bit in masking some of his weaknesses ...
I’d say he’s COMPETENT and INCONSISTENT ...
U don’t want to get behind with him in a game .... hes not a guy u want to put in a position where he has to come from behind ...
His skill set is much better suited to playing with a lead ...

Ya never would have played a game against Buffalo saying oh No they have Tyrod we have no chance to win.
I think it's exactly in the history what to expect.
16 game season, 20 tds his most in a season.
1.4 tds per game, sometimes a rushing td.
If Tyrod plays whole game
Only way Browns win is if the Browns Rb's dominate.
So, not very often.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

It would probably be important to remember that we traded for Taylor with a third rounder.
That if he was all that great; he would not have been available in trade.
If he plays like a average quarterback it is way better than what we are used too.
In addition, he plays till hurt or when it is deemed Baker is ready. If he wins he may last the season.
If Baker takes control like Russell Wilson did??

I'm pretty sure that if ANYONE thought he was a long term answer for anything, we wouldn't have bothered with drafting Mayfield.
TT is what he is... a guy that isn't going to make a ton of mistakes while he holds down the fort until Mayfield is ready. That's pretty much it. He is NFL-Middle-of-the-road and a placeholder for 2018.
STILL, he will be just about the best QB we've seen here in ages.... but, that still won't be all that good.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

That....... And he wasn't our first choice. Our first choice was Alex Smith. But Alex Smith is a pretty darn good QB. Agreed though. At this point, average QB play and a little leadership on offense from a veteran could do us wonders

Yes I believe that Tyrod Taylor can be a top 16 QB if he has a top 5 running game....
Can he do it with a bottom of the league Running game, I don't think he can. He's worst than Hoyer in my opinion, probably more consistent, but we don't know what Hoyer could do with a good running game to support him on his bad days... Tyrod's one of the reasons they have a top-notch running game you know. Not just teams having to account for him and a RB, but he makes up for a decent amount of yards. http://www.nfl.com/player/tyrodtaylor/2495240/profile Tyrod is not the type of QB that can free-up the running game. He's a game manager, won't do mistakes but won't challenge D's, that's why he was traded. LeSean McCoy and the OL were the real starts with the Bills, not TT. But if he was, then we made a heck of a deal.... Who were his receivers over his time in Buffalo? He had a lot of B or C rated receivers to work with. Watkins might have been the best, but that's damning with faint praise.

I see what you did there; Baker, sooner.

Who were his receivers over his time in Buffalo?
(I don't know)
It just reminds me that it brings up the question again of
Do the quarterbacks make the receivers or do the receivers make the quarterbacks?
It's not just a one answer question either.
His thing of 20 Td's largest total of a season, and his 14 Td's last year.
I don't think the Browns are going to win any/many games 10-7, or even 13-10, They'll have to score a lot to win even if everything is going well with the defense and even the game situations.
At this point there are 31 teams that don't have enough respect to think they are ever out of it against the Browns until the final second ticks off
So even if everything is going right
well. they'll just need a lot of TD's they have to come from somewhere, how many are the Defense going to score?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
