It's NICE to take a break from installing this hardwood floor in this damn hot as muggy hell of a day and see some good news. BQ get in camp and get to work!

Have I slipped into the twilight zone?

In any case, Brady has a much higher upside than Frye will ever have. Frye will always be a poor man's Jeff Garcia while Quinn has the possible skills to be a Franchise QB.

"Wonder how much more Quinn got than if he would have taken the initial offer."

After a quick look and lots of guessing I assume the 20 mil in the contract we just decided to not put the easy as I call it "AUTOMATIC" excellerators on it...just make it automatic 20mil believe thats close to 5 mil up from what we were originally offering and guarantee is up 250 grand. I think we won out on the tougher excellerators for the final 10 mil rather than the Automatic ones.

dpdrunk...btw Chuck is OUR BOY not just a certain few who prop him up.

Peenie...nice spin, but I'm not buying it.

Like I said, we have seen your game before.

My take on your words above is your waiting for Quinn to play before you "trash" him.

Kind of like you already have a mind set to trash the kid???

I don't see any other way to interpret the sentence, peenie.

So it looks like this:

Number 21: Jacksonville (from Denver): Nelson, Reggie FS 5yrs, $13.1mil , $7.1M guaranteed.
Number 22: Cleveland (from Dallas): Quinn, Brady QB 5 yrs, $20.2 mil, $7.75 M guaranteed.
Number 23: Kansas City: Bowe, Dwayne WR 5 yrs, terms undisclosed

Anyone know Bowe's numbers for comparison? Looks like Quinn's are quite a bit higher than number 21's, but he's a QB, so that may be understandable.

I think I don't have a clue what the escalaters look like. I will wait and see if they are reported to comment on if we gave him too much or not. I'm fine with the signing bonus.

Tyle no dis here but, you don't really think a lot of us old posters don't understand the concept of what criteria is required for a QB to succeed in the NFL? I've been watching all the great QBs we've had i.e. Otto Graham,Frank Ryan, Milt Plum,Bill Nelsen, Brian Sipe, Bernie Kosar and they all had one thing in common great OL (Wooton, Schafrath, Hickerson,Gatski, Gain, Groza (yeah, Groza was OL), McCormack and Joe Delamielleure to name a few. The great runners were Marion Motley, Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell, Leroy Kelly, Kevin Mack, Byner and Eric Metcalf. So to most of us it is really no secret that you have to have a good foundation (OL) first and foremost with the glamor position filled in next (RB, WR, TE) to give the QB the tools to run a winning system. Of course there are intangibles such as "Presence of Mind in the Pocket", "Fearless" and complete confidence in oneself that you can make any play when called upon. Again, no dis to Mensa or yourself but, there are many very knowledgeable posters on this board that understand the game and what it takes to become a winner. JMHO

Mac..

I'm a neutral party here.. I think you've misunderstood Peens comment to mean that he's waiting to trash BQ (or anyone else for that matter) Where in fact, what he has said is to caution people from doing just that..

He said lets let the kid play before you jump all over him before he's even played a down..

Take a breath and calm down there..

Multiple people have explained to you what Mr. Ballpeen meant by his comment.

As usual, you ignore the facts and make a complete fool out of yourself.

Maybe you can find a way to blame Bush for your confusion.

I know.......I'll get you a "Peen lied, Brady died." bumper sticker!

Great! I hope they get him inked and get him taking reps ASAP! BQ is by far the Browns best chance for success @ QB. He is our guy, time to show him some love!

We all should have known this was going to happen... It's time to grow up and be big boys and girls... What is fair and agreeable to all party's has to happen... And obviously did... A win, win for all... Now lets play some ball!

I believe it's well past time that we all checked the egos at the door and start rooting for new QB of the future, like we should... Show some class don't be an ass...

Take care, be well and enjoy!

U lost whatever credibility U had when you vomited up that mess

He understands that in order to gauge a QB then he has to have
STATS to back him up , otherwise it's not worth debating.

Yea, so he actually makes an argument AND can back it up with actual numbers. A concept few people on the board actually grasp.

U mean he manipulates the stats to try to back up his point..

There is nothing wrong with us... You on the other hand I'm no sure about...

A few questions for you to answer for us Browns fans... 1. How many rookie 1st round QB's started last year? 2. Please explain why? 3. Explain why BQ wouldn't or shouldn't?

The answers to these questions should clarify some things...

I still can't get that ND Michigan game out of my mind when it comes to Brady. I still hate ND. I am glad he is signed, and hope he becomes the greatest QB to ever wear the orange and brown. LOL at some of the takes in this thread. You guys are better than this. No need to rush the kid. He is way, way behind. Let Charlie or Derek take the beating while the line Jells.

Just for you attack dog

QB Ratings from our leading passer since our return
1999 - 73.2 - Tim Couch
2000 - 77.3 - Tim Couch
2001 - 73.1 - Tim Couch
2002 - 76.8 - Tim Couch
2003 - 74.6 - Kelly Holcomb
2004 - 76.7 - Jeff Garcia
2005 - 76.9 - Trent Dilfer
2006 - 72.2 - Charlie Frye

Amazing how they all had about the same QB Rating isn't it.

Winning % from those 5 QB's
37.3% - (22-37) - Tim Couch
36.4% - (4-8) - Trent Dilfer
33.3% - (6-12) - Charlie Frye
30.8% - (4-9) - Kelly Holcomb
30.0% - (3-7) - Jeff Garcia

Amazing how they all won in the 30-40% clip isn't it.

Jeff Garcia's QB Rating
88.3 - while in San Fran
76.7 - while in Cleveland
65.1 - while in Detroit
95.8 - while in Philly

Amazing how Garcia had poor #'s in Cleveland and Detroit and good #'s in San Fran and Philly. I wonder if the talent around him had anything to do with that.

Ever wonder why Steve Young and Vinny Testaverde put up such poor stats in the 1980's playing for Tampa Bay and then after they went to other teams they started putting up good stats.

Who knows if Frye will become a solid NFL pro or not? I'd like to see him play on a team with a solid O-line and a running game before I make that final evaluation.

It seems like some of you want to move on to our 6th leading passer in 6 years. That strategy is working well isn't it.

Let's see if that actually happens today.

Come on that was Vintage Mac...

btw did you see the difficulty of the beginning of our season - no way we throw an Underprepaired BQ into a battle like that.

If you really are looking forward to BQ stepping in sometime this season.

Look at the break as one possibility and look for a weak spot in our schedule where he can come in and have some positive feedback from the results.

JMHO

I am thinking week 12 looks like a pretty good time to plug him in. Comes after the 2nd Balt and Pit games and the games week 13 through 17 do not include any teams with dominant defense.

So unless we are in a playoff run I see BQ starting week 12 vs Houston. This gives him 6 games of experience this year and a chance to have a successful season next year.

Quinn ends holdout, agrees to five-year deal with Browns
By Larry Weisman, USA TODAY
Quarterback Brady Quinn, the 22nd overall selection in the NFL draft, reached agreement Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns on a five-year contract with a base value of $20.2 million ($7.75 million guaranteed) and a maximum of $30 million.

Representatives for the 22-year-old out of Notre Dame say the base value and the maximum are higher than everyone taken before him except for the top eight players.

If above is true, I think the Browns were very fair and generous under the circumstances. JMHO

Quinn's signing leaves two first-round picks — Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the top overall pick, and Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, the No. 14 choice — without contracts.

Just for you attack dog

Save those numbers for a naive person WHO DOESN'T KNOW FOOTBALL..oh wait..you have them already

Unlike you a few of those QB's weren't going to do much anyway..Garcia was NOT A FIT HERE because of that genius coach/gm called Botch..

Couch..I'm not going down that road..because he had his own defencies along with a poor supporting cast and Holcomb is a career backup..get that??
Trent Dillpickle was NEVER A QUALITY QB..he cannot read coverages and we have a youngster who is the spitting image of him..Anderson..

Ever wonder why Steve Young and Vinny Testaverde put up such poor stats in the 1980's playing for Tampa Bay and then after they went to other teams they started putting up good stats.

No, because they had talent within themselves which I could see although VT is not what I would call a great QB....say did you ever figure out Testaverde has the most common type of color blindness?
Shades of the colors red and green look yellowish to him.
But I guess a stat wouldn't show that huh?

Who knows if Frye will become a solid NFL pro or not? I'd like to see him play on a team with a solid O-line and a running game before I make that final evaluation.

Well you can wait n wait n wait n wait..it's not happening..wait he is a solid backup already..
