We have a MUCH BETTER football team ... we have WAY MORE OVERALL TALENT than we have had since our return and I’m not sure it’s EVEN CLOSE ... And i’ve NEVER said that before ... unlike most I haven’t been burned in the past cause I NEVER BOUGHT IN ... last year was the most optomistic i’ve been in forever and my predictions were a floor of 2 and a cieling of 6 with my number being 4 ... no way did i see the qb play being near as bad as it was ... i understood why and it was hard to watch but i didn’t feel “burned” like most that have what i thought were way out of whack expectations almost every year ... So now there “burned” cause they believed the hype about how much talent was on our past teams ... now we actually have talent and they are “afraid” to aknowledge it .... NOT ME .... Our QB is as good as any we’ve here and way better than most ... that says more about the lack of talent we’ve had here than it does about how good TT is ... BUT the FACT is ... he’s like the gold standard compared to what we saw last year and have for way to many of the past two decades ... Our top 2 WR’s are as good as any duo in the league sans Pitt and we may be as good or better than them ... we didn’t have one reciever on last years team that would have been a top 2 WR on very many teams ... Coleman more than likely would have been a top two on a few teams only cause of how pitiful their group was ... but thats it ... NOW .... We have as good a duo as their is ... Hopefully Njoku makes a huge jump like some 2nd year guys do ... Our RBs are damm good ... Hyde is a dang good RB and Duke is Duke ... lets see what we have in Chubb ... i saw a video the other day and the RB’s were doing a “quick feet drill” and i gotta tell u ... and i’m Not one that reads much into that type of stuff ... but Chubb had GREAT FEET ... Hyde and Duke went first and then you did a double take after the first couple steps he was so good ... The OL could be a MAJOR PROBLEM ... we have two liabilities at right and left tackle until proven otherwise .... we may need to game plan to help them ... that’d hurt but its doable and we still have plenty of talent to hopefully compensate for it as best we can ... We got some talent on D also ... don’t feel like breaking it down now but that don’t take away from the fact the talents there ... No way will I not aknowledge that cause of past failures ... NO WAY ... we have talent now ... thats CLEAR to anyone that knows football .... The teams we have to play have taken notice .. especially our division rivals ... Its gonna be a FUN YEAR guys ... at least it will be for me ... No doubt. Fun gonna happen here too. I HAVE to chalk up the negative fans perception of this team and the wait and see attitude on being snake-bitten so many times. It's cool. They'll come around, it's just gonna take longer than ME. Dorsey took the Liabilities on this team and HAMMERED THEM. QB's, especially the STARTER, WR's and the Secondary. QB's are night and day. Getting Stanton was an EXCELLENT idea. LEARN TO WIN this year.

I've spoken to a ton of Bills fans since we acquired TT. They have all said the same thing - He's "OK". Plays well for stretches, holds the ball too long often (waiting for WR's to get open rather than throwing them open), makes an electric play or two with his legs and then will miss a wide open receiver leaving you scratching your head.
I'm happy with our QB situation - based on last year, we lost a ton of games simply because of Kizer throwing picks like nobodies business. Kizer flashed a throw here or there each game but he certainly didn't do anything magical ..... This year if we get the 'average' TT that he's shown for multiple seasons, then our QB play will be improved and our turnovers WAY WAY WAY down. That will lead to wins and progress. I am no rush to see BM start even though I am fan of his.... I want him to start when he's a better QB than TT, not still learning to be a better QB than TT.
Sure McCoy was a beast at RB - but there are other factors at play that influence TT's stats: WR's - coaching - play calling ... I don't see a massive drop off coming from his previous stats and he seems to be a stand up guy. Bottom line I am excited to see the new offense under Haley - I'm excited to see how TT runs and commands it - I'm excited to see (lord willing) Gordon, Landry, Coleman, Njoku and Hyde/Chubb/Duke ..... I can't think of a more talented or potentially explosive set of offensive playmakers on our team since 1999. IF Taylor plays like that and consistently leaves yards on the field, THAT will be Mayfield's opening. IF it keeps happening, gotta believe after game 8 or so Haley will call for the change. IF Mayfield's READY. We'll see how it goes.

I disagree - or you're reading into my post something I didn't say. . . We traded a 3rd for TT. What are your realistic expectations? He's not going to be perfect. If he has a relatively high completion % and a very low interception rate - and misses 2 open receivers every game, I can live with that 100% if the team is winning and in games.
As you said - we'll see and I am excited to watch it unfold.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Its not that TT misses the two open recievers a game ... i lived in Jills country the last 30 or so football seasons ... he’s INCONSISTENT from game to game ... here’s his MO ... and i have NO CLUE what the stats say ... NONE ... this is from watching him take way more snaps than i have wanted when out with friends ...
He’ll play a great game .. complete 80 - 85% of his passes and lead a very affective O ... then he’ll play 2 or 3 games where his biggest contribution will be not turning the ball over and getting some first downs with his legs ... then he’ll have an absolute stinker 3 or 4 times a year ...
I do not know one Jill’s fan upset he’s gone ...
Where i am hanging my hat is squarely on the coaching he’s had .. since becoming a starter he’s ran O’s on a Rex Ryan coached team with a great back and d to rely on ... and then the new dude who i know nuttin about but that dude wanted nuttin to do with TT last year ... he was forced into keeping him last year and this year he couldn’t get rid of him any quicker ... thats a tough situation and I have no clue what type of coach dude is ...
I don’t think much of TT but he is the bet we’ve had and he don’t turn the ball over ... that is much welcomed after last year ...
His numbers will go up ... thats not hard ... others than completion% and turnovers his NUMBERS STUNK ... and he has MAD MAD MAN WEAPONS here and an O brain trust that will game plan to his skills ... plus its his BIG CONTRACT YEAR ... he saw what guys like Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford got in FA ...
And thats not a slam on TT ... hes a hard worker and a great dude .. I’d be pulling for him on a personal level cause hes a great kid and does things the right way no matter where he was ... i just don’t think he’s that good ... INCONSISTENT ACCURACY is his main problem in my book and that’s rarely overcome but who knows .. he hasn’t had the best coaching thus far since he left the Rats ...

They have no idea what to prepare for week one - we do. They're facing more talent than they've seen in Cleveland in a loooong time. Haley is already game-planning for the black and gold... they'll be drinking beers right up 'til game time 'cuz it's "just the Browns".

Ummm... i even said without Shazier and Bell being a hold out again we could very well SUPRISE SOME PEOPLE ... my almost exact words .... “don’t let us put the NFL on notice in week 1” .. We could suprise some folks and pull that one out ... BUT KILLING THEM is an entirely different story ... Quite frankly EXPECTING TO BEAT them is an out of whack expectation IMO ... KILLING THEM ... well I’m trying to be nicer so i won’t say what i really think .. ... Appearantly U have also been infected with the UNREALISTIC EXPECTATION BUG again this year ...

The good thing about Tyrod is he has WON games in this League, last year we had ZERO WINS in our QB room so at least we have a QB that knows how to WIN and as a bonus he has taken a team to the playoffs ...

I think we are going to kill the Steelers. I don't care about killing them .... I just want to beat them. Then I want to do it again.

If we have to point out the QB room had no wins in 17 and Tyrod did, then allow me to point out that Tyrod had 0 wins with Hue in 17, and the Browns Qb room had no chance at wins without Hue. What! Am I saying that Hue Jackson was holding the Browns QB's back? !! ((Just it is a "maybe, who knows",)) (((What evidence?!!))) (well Josh McCown did somewhat better right after he left). I don't want to go there. 2018 is a whole new season. Good Luck Browns!
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

And yet you just did. lmao
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

They have no idea how he's going to implement plays to fit this newfound talent. I would think his opening statement in discussing the gameplan will be "well, this is what they'll expect me to do".

I predict that Pittsburgh will still run their "trips formation" with three WR to one side, and we still won't stop it.... and despite us having their former OC, we won't figure out how to employ it here.

From something I brought up Sunday evening: The "times sacked" thing seemed a bit alarming and upon further digging, Taylor ranked third highest in amount of times sacked. I happened to fall on this sequence of posts this morning on my Twitter feed: I can’t remember a player in my lifetime so obviously flawed as Tyrod Taylor that nonetheless mesmerized the numbers guys. Here’s the Tyrod stat to learn: Sack%. I combine sack% and INT% since both almost equally kill drives. Sacks are almost as bad as picks — you’re almost always losing possession as a result. Tyrod is just awful in this sack% + INT% stat. But TD% can overcome this with guys like Wilson and ARod, who are also at least not good in it. But Tyrod is also terrible in TD%. I made an index of sacks%+INT% and TD% the top since 2015 is Brady, Carr, Ben, Brees, Rodgers, Cousins, Rivers. The bottom (worst first) Siemian, McCown, Taylor, Osweiler, Tannehill, Cutler — pretty good. It turns out, I’m underrating Carr. Also maybe underrating Eli. @CleggJon Tyrod Taylor rank in Sack% + INT% by year:
2015: 28th of 35 2016: 29th of 30 2017: 26th of 32 Plus Taylor’s also bad at yards per pass play, the oldest and most simple and most predictive stat (team that wins it by any margin wins the game 74% of the time since the 1970 merger) Since 2015, 37% of Taylor’s drop backs last 3.0 seconds or more. The NFL average is 23%. That rate leads all QBs (minimum 10 attempts). He’s been sacked 124 times on these plays. The over/under is 2.5 seconds. So this is bad. It turns out a sack ends up killing a drive (no first down following one) 84% of time. Better than the 100% for INTs but terrible still. https://twitter.com/MichaelSalfino

This is about what I expect.
It definitely isn't all roses here. The flip side is that I wonder how our previous 7 or 8 QBs stack up against Tyrod in this same INT + Sack stat.

Good question. I'll assume Kizer didn't fare well and McCown was already on the list.

Hopefully Njoku makes a huge jump like some 2nd year guys do ...
He is just 21 soon to be 22 and is learning the game at a fast rate. As a rookie he became a mismatch on a team that had very few. This is why I'm excited we have a QB room with competent players but most important MISS MATCHES Galore. We never have been able to spread the field like we will this year. It is one of the big keys of football!

jmho Yeah the TE coach recent interview hinted he'll our red zone mismatch/target. As he should too with his size and jump. Once he becomes a better route runner, watch out.

The thing is .. when a sack kills a drive .. there is a punt afterwards.. so much better field position than after an INT. An INT in the Red Zone is also a loss of points, not just field position. A sack in the Red Zone still usually means points. In other words, you still come out way ahead with Tyrod over Kizer...

Being very athletic, I'd imagine that often he's getting sacked for a short loss instead of big losses I checked that not too long ago... sucked, couldn't find any stats online that did the math for you. Tyrod was clearly the leader in 2017, unless there was someone hiding in the pack that I missed, got sick of using the calculator. The only QBs close were Mariotta and Winston. It does say a lot. With the sheer amount of sacks and crappy Oline play in Buffalo, he was a QB that had to focus on protection first... also leading to "holding the ball too long". It's hard to be a classic drop-back-scan-the-field QB when there are protection issues on 75% of your passing snaps. You become so gun-shy that your focus is always not making a mistake. And then, the obvious, he does his best to minimize the damage when a protection is broken. It's funny to me that people insist it's too late for him to improve. Almost everything we find fault with are things that us armchair QBs agreed were "fixable" when analyzing draft QBs... and most of the things that we said were red flags, aren't a part of Tyrod's game. He's got a superior offensive line and more weapons out of the gate than his entire three years in Buffalo. There's no real reason to assume he won't improve.

Yeah, I saw your three year average. I'm talking about head-to-head with other QBs, average yards lost per sack. Can't find anything online. Tyrod was much better than average in 2017 - his the lowest of the QBs I checked, didn't check every single QB.

Can't remember reading that anywhere but if so that poster is totally missing the boat. I think he has improved tremendously over the last 2 years and by all the things I have read he is continuing his progress to become a better NFL QB. That is what I like about him the most is that he is a good efficient QB now actually probably the best we have had here since 99. But he is getting better and still learning the position. Not like a rookie but I guess what I'm saying is he isn't even close to his peak yet.
5.3 yards just guessing but that seems to be better than the norm.
Also running or mobile QBs who will escape the pocket usually are in the top 5-10 QBs on getting sacked. Pocket passers tend to move within the pocket and throw the ball away. So I think his numbers have been pretty good considering he will get out of the pocket often. Hopefully we can get efficient at the two OTs but what is important is the belly of the beast is pretty secure with our Interior and gives TT the perfect pocket to step up into as long as our OTs don't get beat inside but ride that defender outside so TT can step up into that natural gap between OG and OT.
Another thing to consider is the prowess of Duke and our two TE to provide excellent dump offs if coverage on top is excellent and the pressure comes. This team on paper is so so good. The coaches I'm sure are salivating over the prospects of their coaching this year and keeping what we can (players and coaches) together for the future why I use the word even though I get chastised for it, oh the word Dynasty in the making.
Note "MAKING" I'm not claiming we got it done already...but we are definitely going in the proper direction!

Many would argue that after eight years in the league it's farfetched to say "not even close to his peak". And that was the general mentality I've been reading, that because he's been in the league we shouldn't expect to see a great improvement. I'm not saying there were posters insisting he can't improve, bad wording on my part.
I suspect that he knows he leaves too many yards on the field and is working to improve in that respect... that's the big knock on TT.
5.3 is very much better than the norm. I ran across a couple historical graphs and average is about 6.5 for the last 15-20 years. At the end of the day, minimizing damage is great... taking 45 sacks - not so great.

As noted 45 sacks is not an alarming number considering he is a scrambling type of QB. Not a stat guy but probably one of the best of that "TYPE" is Wilson I think he gets rid of the ball well once he is out of the pocket.
But Diam will tell you: As I noted this fact to him about Randall Cunningham and he was pretty surprised. QBs with that kind of mobility will get sacked at a pretty high rate its the nature of the beast.
BM is not a runner oh if you give it to him he will take it and he knows what to do with it and can make the best out of the space if given. But he is a heads up throw the ball and throw it well like Wilson and like Rodgers. Once out of that pocket TT has to learn to throw that ball (past the LOS) to the ground anywhere rather than take that sack. Once he does that 45 number will shrink considerably.
Thought 5.3 would be better than the norm and that is indicative that he does not stay in the pocket (his OL sucked) but he gets closer to the LOS when being sacked to bring that yardage down to 5.3...now we have to have him learn to throw that ball away as noted or better yet to Duke and/or Devalve as I think we will create some amazing space for the dump off!

The yards lost per sack isn't a meaningful stat imo.
Sacks are drive killers regardless. Any way it's chopped up Tyrod needs to cut down on his sacks.
How? -Tyrod's maturation as a passer, possible self scouting and making a point to improve on this weakness of his game
-scheme designed by Haley to get the ball out quicker like he did with Rothlisberger another QB that held the ball and took too many sacks
-better talent at WR...talent that will actually get seperate from coverage....there is no stat that shows directly how WRs inability to get open effects QB scrambles/sacks but there is obviously a correlation
Tyrod can and should improve when it comes to sacks. But he's unlikely to ever have Drew Brees sack numbers. Russell and other mobile QBs still have higher sack and "time to throw" numbers then stationary QBs it just comes with being a playmaker and extending plays (Baker included).

I look at Ben Roethlisberger, and his performance from Arians to Haley.
Arians allowed Ben to hang in the pocket forever, to try and make a play.
Haley changed the pass offense completely. Ben wasn't hanging in the pocket all day long anymore. Haley sped him up a lot, and his sacks dropped greatly.
In Roethlisberger's 1st 8 season, (under Arians, and others) he started 113 games, attempted 3313 passes, and was sacked 314 times. He was sacked once every 10.6 passes. In other words, it's a lot. He also threw 109 INT. (one INT every 30 pass attempts) He threw 165 TD passes in his 1st 8 seasons.
Under Haley, in 6 seasons, and 85 starts, he attempted 3180 passes, and was sacked 163 times. I don't have to do the math to see that he was sacked a whole lot less, despite throwing the ball a whole lot more. However, to demonstrate the difference, I will. Under Haley, Ben was sacked once every 19.5 pass attempts. He threw 74 INT. (one INT every 43 pass attempts) He also threw 165 TD passes in 6 seasons under Haley.
He helped Ben see that he didn't have to kill every play, and that it was OK to take the sure play and get the ball out of his hands quickly.
I am hopeful that he can do the same with Tyrod, and give him "sure plays", that he can take immediately, instead of trying to wait for the perfect play and get sacked. I think that RPO type plays will simplify reads for Taylor, and will help him. We'll see.

When you have WRs like Landry who you can count on to get open it speeds up the passing game too because he becomes that automatic passing target if your main target isn't open.

Not necessarily, Aaron Rodgers sat back for a bit Aaron Rodgers also had Brett Favre ahead of him. Big difference between Tyrod Taylor and a Super Bowl MVP. (no offense to Tyrod) Also, Tyrod is signed for this year only. We would have to sign him to a new deal, and he isn't going to come back for less than a 3 or 4 year deal, with big guarantees. Now maybe he won't get that on the open market, but if he plays well this year, I bet he gets a nice deal. I also doubt that he wants to come back with the expectation that he should be the backup in a year or so.(if not immediately)

Yeah, this is a big leap of faith on my part. I haven’t been this excited for a season in 10 years.
I think Tyrod can be a better QB than he has shown, which isn’t bad to date. He has weapons around him, which I believe will inherently make him a better QB.
Then I see a franchise tag, leap of faith
