Major takeaway besides Plutko's stellar performance: Miller and Allen both looked really sharp.

Yea, we at least need to get that part of the bullpen pitching well. I know we have some ?????? out in the pen but we need those guys to be reliable.

EE and Yonder's season numbers aren't great because of how they started but both have been hitting better lately..

Teams often go an entire season without a 1-0 victory.

The Indians last one was over a year ago - May 7th, 2017.

A win by Clevinger (and 1 inning hold by Miller and 1 inning save by Allen)

And so, the 'stros are once again our guests.

The Tribe's 4 starting pitchers against Houston this weekend:

Mike Clevinger
Cory Kluber
Carlos Carrasco
Trevor Bauer

Well, this is as good as Cleveland gets.

That's really the key question isn't it?

Alonso and Encarnacion you would expect to get going at some point.

Kipnis looks bad at the plate. He is just not making good contact.

You almost expect zero from the catchers.

Center and left are not producing.

I like Gonzales at third or they should trade for Machado and just go large.

Their window to win is now. They have to make moves because they will have big free agent problems coming soon.

Right now the lineup is weak to many places to get easy outs.

I had the game on TV and the Cav's game streaming on my desktop on mute. I was anxious to see the new pitcher.

All I can say is... Plutko started out and made me feel the way after Josh has been starting recently, but then he picked up. Few walks and that walk for the bases loaded was hard on the eyes but he got himself outta it. I'll take it.

The bullpen even finished it out for us.

If Eddy E. and Alonso show up in the second half ( which is what you would expect ) You only need one out of three ( Lonnie/Naquin/Zimmer ) to show up on any given day ..

I can't speak about Alonso because he's new here, but I recall the same conversations last year about Edwin. He started slow last year too, and then picked up the pace in late May/early June, finishing pretty strong. Even Kipnis has been squaring up some balls and driving them to left-center, so far for long outs, but maybe he's finding his stroke.

I meant right field.

Still believe they will need to make a bold move.

Either an outfielder or third. A hitter with some power.

Surprised Kipnis was not moved in the off season.

I would like to see Rameriz at second and Gonzalez at third for awhile.

Here's the thing guys - we're going to win this division because there's just no other team in in the Central that's in our stratosphere. Then, once you make the post-season, you can throw Kluber, Carrasco, and Bauer at whoever you play. That's a great starting staff if everyone is healthy. What we need to do is find our best lineup offensively, and add to it if we can, then FIX THE BULLPEN. Trade prospects if you have to - I don't care who - Mejia, McKenzie, Bradley, Bieber - because this is the year it needs to happen. 70 years since our last MLB World Championship is long enough.

Funny in today's game (Thursday)against the Astros with nobody on and no outs against the shift Alonzo butted down toward third for a base hit.

No problem. He executed it just fine.

Painful to watch this bullpen and anemic bats. Left the game behind.

rightfully so, he wasn't that great, he could eat innings but seemed like he was always in trouble. He wouldn't help this mess either, only add to it, he's been horrid this year for the rockies

Shaw was incredibly effective last year.

Look at his ERA home (in Colorado) and on the road. There is about a 5 run difference. Last year, in his 79 appearances, he had 26 holds. He blew 3 saves on the season, last year. He was not perfect, but he was a high end reliever, and if we still had him, we would be far better right now.

I was wrong about Yonder Alonso.

He hit his 10th homer yesterday.

This is his 9th season and he never hit 10 or more homers in a season until last year when he hit what seemed a fluke 28 homers.

I've seen it too many times playing fantasy baseball where a player has a fluke good year and then is overvalued the following year but never repeats his "career year".

Trevor Bauer out-pitching Gerrit Cole so far today. Indians lead 3-1 going into the bottom of the 5th. Bauer has 8 K's so far. I read in today's PD (Pluto) that Cole and Bauer were teammates at UCLA, drafted #1 and #3 respectively in the 2011 MLB draft. Also interesting to note that when Cole and Bauer were juniors at UCLA, Adam Plutko was a freshman there. How good do you suppose that pitching staff was?

Bauer now with 13 K's after 7 IP. Indians hanging on 3-2. If I was Bauer, even after 110 pitches, I'd refuse to come out of this game yet. (He was still throwing 96 MPH in the 7th.) Just get it to the 9th, and take your chances with Cody Allen. Hamilton just said it looks like Bauer will come out for the 8th - nobody warming up in the pen.

And the wheels come off in the 8th. Bauer gets a quick out and then gives up a double and a walk. After 127 pitches, he's gassed. In comes somebody named Evan Marshall and he gives up three straight singles ... Houston 5 Indians 3. AAARGH!

Biting my nails again. No confidence intros bullpen. But scoring to get back in, extra innings, just crazy.

Who woke up?

Go, Tribe! Wahoo!
