Actually it was device who said it was a lie. My bad.
I did say it was a lie because it is.
They don’t play fair ...
There only focusing on the truthful part of his initial statement and they completely IGNORE THE LIE he told in part 2 of his initial statement .. that would be the injury part ..
As far as i know there wasn’t one ... but they won’t aknowledge that when discussing it ...

Sad but true ... ...
Not sure if you meant me or not, but since I was the one who brought this incident to the thread...
I did not say he hurt anyone. I said that I thought he was trying to since I cannot fathom any other reason to throw the ball at someone’s head during pregame warm ups. I also said that I cannot accept it as just being competitive.
The only thing I stated as fact was that he threw the ball at someone’s head during pregame warmups. I do not think that is debatable. I never said he injured someone while doing so.

I've thought about this and I will post what the hell I want. The thread was derailed. People making one personal attack after another. I tried to get it back on track and you say my post is "hogwash" and say nothing about the other football posts.
I haven't been criticizing guys like you who like Mayfield. I have simply expressed my viewpoints and I have hardly even done that because I knew some of you would turn it into a personality conflict.
Another thing......you say that Baker has been drafted and it's time to move on. Yet, you don't say a freaking word to the guys who pollute one thread after another w/the Sashi/Hue nonsense. Sashi is gone. Hue is here. Why not move on? Pffftttttt........
I am not going to reply to you and I have zero problems w/you talking up Mayfield. However, I think most posters know that my analysis over the years on the team and the players isn't "hogwash." It's not your job, eotab's job, or device's job to tell me what I can post and what I can't. So..........shove off.
Here is an excerpt from an article that includes comments from Gary Patterson, TCU's coach.
Quote:
We asked the guy that was in charge and he said, ‘I don’t know which way to send you.’
Even as the head coach I had to go through their warmup lines to get down to our end of the field. And I wouldn’t have said anything if coach Riley hadn’t made the remark that our guy wouldn’t have gotten hit with the ball if he hadn’t run through the stretch lines. TCU in 20 years has never run through anyone’s stretch lines. We don’t act that way. You’ve never seen us go out to the middle of the field and yell at each other and do all that. And we’ve had plenty of teams try to get us to do it. That’s not the way we act.
I don’t really appreciate them trying to say that we were in the wrong, because that was okay to let a quarterback throw a ball and hit a guy in the head that hasn’t played for two weeks.
Now we all know that Mayfield isn’t your typical poster-child quarterback after the Kansas crotch-grabbing antics that caused him to miss two plays last week and get publicly reprimanded by the Big 12. But Patterson went on to say that while Mayfield was at Texas Tech, where he played in 2013, the signal caller was known for hitting opposing players in the head with footballs:
Now I’m not saying that was the reason, but I’m just gonna give you a little history. Baker played at Texas Tech, and Lincoln was at Texas Tech, and I have a coach that was at Texas Tech and it was common practice. And there was a Texas Tech pretty well known quarterback that hit a guy from A&M in the head, and they all thought it was funny to throw balls and do those kind of things. And it’s their prerogative, they can do whatever they want to, we’re just not going to here.
But I’m not going to make this game, because it’s a championship game, about all that stuff. But if they want to bring it out into the open and they want to call us out they can do it. They said we were the ones trying to cause all the problems, I beg to differ.
But, we’re going to play Saturday, and hopefully it’ll be two football teams that are playing with high intensity the right way, without talking.
So, he did throw the ball at a player and it appears it wasn't the first time. Thus, I don't see how that makes me a "liar."
I will say that the said player was injured the previous two weeks and was apparently not injured by Baker's act. I did see something where Barnett would not say if the player didn't play because of being hit in the head or not.
If you guys wanna say that makes me a "liar," go right ahead. However, device has been acting like the incident never took place. But, that's okay.
Edit: I better include the link. Don't want to be called a liar again.
The incident where he threw a ball and injured another player before the game started was awful.
Ugh. This is simply not true. We've been through this before. You weren't able to show proof then and I'm sure you can't provide proof now. Stop the lies. I'm not sure why things like this are continually made up but people have their agendas obviously.
To be fair, your response does not differentiate between the throwing of the the ball (fact) and an injury to the player hit (no info.) Calling the statement a lie appears as if you are calling the entire statement a lie.

And here is more from Barnett on Baker, Texas Tech, and Baker's dad:
Quote:
Just spoke with TCU coach Gary Patterson, who, while at practice for the Horned Frogs' Alamo Bowl match-up vs Oregon, called over the coach who recruited Mayfield, DC Chad Glasgow. "When did we tell Baker Mayfield he wasn't getting a scholarship?"
"First week of January," I heard Glasgow respond.
Patterson: "I like Baker Mayfield. I think he's a good kid and that's what disappoints me.
"If Baker Mayfield wants to blame TCU for 128 BCS schools not offering him a scholarship, that's fine. But ask Kliff Kingsbury why he didn't offer him a scholarship at Texas Tech. Ask about Baker's dad [James]. He's an arrogant guy who thinks he knows everything. If people knew the whole story, they might not have a great opinion of Baker or his father."

It is what it is... I highlighted the sentence where the lie occurred. The issue is that this same incident was brought up with the same "injured" comment before and was debunked then but here we are again.
What makes you say he is so accurate? The reports? Or, have you really seen him make big-time throws into tight windows?
No ... haven’t seen him make bigtime throws into tight windows ... he didn’t have many if any to throw into ...
Its one of the questions I and most have about him ...
I watched all or almost all his games ... he was very accurate with the throws he had to make ... he had guys open and never really needed to make many tight window throws ...
He led them so they never had to slow down and there were very few Lamar Jackson type throws where u weren’t even sure who the target was ... *L* ...
IMO he was very accurate with what he had to do ...
Thats what i meant ...
I’m checking out of this thread ... its not fun anymore ...
If u want to chat with me about this PM please ... I’d LOVE your input ... I for one VALUE your opinion ...... i get the feeling PM’s maybe the only way i talk football anymore ....

I'm not on here much at the moment. Mostly coz there isn't much football talk. If you are expressing thoughts and observations about BM that you haven't expressed before - sorry if you feel I jumped on you.
For the most part I'll stand by the fact that all BM's short comings and issues have been debated to the point where there isn't any football talk and it's people with egos not able to let go that their guy didn't get picked.
I'll also stand by the fact that nothing new is being discussed. No new takes or fresh perspective. It's people digging into their silos to protect their opinion.
I'll also stand by whatever happened at college - and no matte who we would have picked - it's show me time. Judge the player by what he does as a Brown. Wouldn't matter if the QB we picked was Rosen or Darnold or Allen or someone else. It's also true of Ward, Chubb Callaway et al.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Thanks for answering. And yes, we can talk honestly in PMs w/out having to worry about who says what we can and can't post.
My bad Vers ... i know your not a liar ... been around here many years and we both know whats up in that department ... lying never even enters my mind when chatting with u .. its not who u are ...
I’m gone for good now .... well ...
Do me a favor if 88 rips me in here ... let me know in PM’s so i can come apologize to him again ...
If this kid fails its not going to be because of lack of effort or focus .....
No clue how this is going to play out but the kid has a chance .... accurate, smart and a great work ethic .... that gives u a shot .... here’s to hoping ....
That's it in a nutshell - including the "here's hoping" part. And it'd be the exact same paragraph more or less with Darnold or Rosen as the #1 pick ....
Posted earlier today. FYI.

Hey Diam. Maybe go read for yourself.
I said I agreed 100% with the post you made.
Oh well.
I don't think he is reading this thread anymore, but I will pass the message along for you.
I just want to end this. I am not a liar. I do not think my takes are horse crap. I like to talk football. I am NOT knocking you or making fun of you for liking Baker. I would appreciate it if you would reciprocate and not belittle me for my opinions on the subject.
It's a message board. I think differing opinions is a good thing and that censorship is not. It's not like we are talking about it on every damn thread like we have some other subjects.
I was perhaps mistaken about the injury thing. Perhaps not. The dude did miss the next two games.
I was not trying to lie to anyone.
The real point is that Mayfield threw the ball at the opposing team BEFORE the game.
What the hell do you think his intentions were? "Hey, let's play catch, guys?" Or was it something more sinister? It was a punk move. Period!
I am happy we drafted Mayfield.
But I agree with your post completely. Of all the things that Mayfield has done that were "Questionable", this is the worst one IMO.
It's a jerk move. There's no doubt about it. Mayfield's in the heat of the moment and angry at Kansas and he does that (after the cheapshots, etc.) I get it. He goes and runs from the police when he's drunk, well I've done something similar. I get it. Throwing the ball at the opposing player's head during warmup was a jerk move.
If I was interviewing him before drafting him, this is one of the biggest things I'd bring up. Explain that one. It's certainly better than Roethlisberger with wasted girls in bathroom stalls (rape or whatever it was, cause if it wasn't rape get a damn hotel room man), but it's still very lame.
Maybe he was really pissed about TCU running through their warm-ups. Either way, he's the QB. He's supposed to be the one with the composure and poised before the game. He should be focused on the gameplan and what he has to do to be successful. Not on where the opposing players are at during warmups. Leave that for someone else
EDIT: And i'm happy you brought up the point of the injury. I asked the question I did because I was looking for clarity in Device's thought process. I've read the same stuff you did (as it's something I looked into because it bothered me the most). Read about it months ago, and it was discussed on here months ago too.
Niko Small, the player who he hit with the ball in the head, missed the next two games with a concussion. It's not unusual for concussions to be diagnosed after the game the player who got the concussion just finished.
There's no way to say Mayfield caused this injury, but there's no way to say he didn't.
Either way, it wasn't good. It's not something you hear about from Top 5 pick QBs. But Baker isn't your average Top 5 QB either. He certainly doesn't fit the box.
Still, I'm happy with the Mayfield pick. There's things I really like about the guy. Second rated QB for me. This event was something I really didn't like though
I think I was wrong about that. The guy suffered a concussion, but it wasn't proven to be from being hit by the ball. It may have been what caused it, but it's not a fact.
I think the kid didn't play the previous 2 weeks they didn't say why...but he wasn't hurt Physically that is by the throw. Was curious if I missed that.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
Btw there were complaints about TCU running through opponent warmups prior to that incident.
I'm trying to find this on Google, and i'm not finding anything about TCU running through anyone's warmups (other than that one incident).
One thing I will say in Baker's defense, he might not have meant to give the guy a concussion or hurt him. When Ndamakong Suh steps on a guy's knee or something, he means to injure him. Baker might have just decided to hit him in the head with the ball, without thinking anything would come from it in terms of the guy's career. The guy was in full pads and helmet. He might have just wanted to send a message by making him look stupid.
Either way, it was a very poor choice which certainly reflects poorly on his character. Something that I definitely hope was discussed.
“ He might have just wanted to send a message by making him look stupid.”
The only person Baker has made to look stupid through all of his antics...ie flipping the bird, crotch grabbing, throwing the ball at opponents heads, cursing at opposing fans, etc... is Baker. I don’t care if the opposing team drove a Sherman tank through OU’s warmups. Baker, along with everyone else on his team, is supposed to act like they understand sportsmanship and self control. Baker has repeatedly shown a lack of both. Maybe it changes now that he’s a Brown. I’ll be watching closely and will have no issues calling out juvenile displays of lack of self control and roasting him over it. My hope is he grows up quickly.
Well at least he hit his target. We wouldn't be talking about this if it was Kizer aiming for someones head. We have ALL have done stupid things in the heat of the moment ..and most of us have learned from it. Easy to criticize when we have no idea why it happened and what lead up to it. Get back to me when he has to admit himself into a rehab center or gets suspended for conduct. I don't see it happening and honestly.. this team NEEDS some emotional drive at the QB position.

Absolutely agree.

Honest question. If it was 10 years ago, and Baker hit Joey Porter in the head, as he proceeded to go through our Warmups and start fights every time we'd play the Steelers, would you have been upset?
Cause, at least at the time, I wanted to send Terrelle Smith to meet him at the 50 every single time.

Honest answer. What I would have wanted to happen is to go out and put a hurt on the Steelers on the field. To dominate them on the scoreboard. That is how you show your opponent up. You beat them mercilessly on the field of play. Demoralize then. Next time you meet my guess is Porter doesn’t act the fool because he was made to look a jester on the gridiron. Any other response is petty. As petty as the act that started it.
I see a very passionate leader. Something we've been lacking for quite a while... and I see some people trying to make something out of nothing. Some are even trying to make this a negative "pattern."
I go to sleep dreaming about one of our players planting a flag at the 50 yd line in Heinz Field after a Browns win. I'm tired of being a bottom feeder. I want the entire NFL to know we have arrived.
Antics are only silly when you're losing. If we go to Pittsburgh on October 28 and we're 0-7 but beat the steelers and plant flag at midfield, yeah that's just a bunch of silliness. But if we are 7-0 and go into pittsburgh and improve to 8-0 and plant a flag at midfield all of a sudden it's not that silly and the rest of the NFL better take notice.
Mayfield is certainly one of those guys you either love or hate. As much as we hated Elway in the late 80s early 90s other teams are going to hate Mayfield much the same....
I go to sleep dreaming about one of our players planting a flag at the 50 yd line in Heinz Field after a Browns win.
Well you and I don't want the same thing. And if BM acts like a punk while he's a Brown I will be very pissed off and it will be hard to root for him. I want the team to win and leave the schoolboy immature stuff to a different team. Planting a flag in another team's logo doesn't make us better and it doesn't undo the 2 decades of loses and pathetic teams we have fielded. Planing a flag in another teams logo would actually just detract from any progress - and instead of having neutrals and the media rooting for the Browns, we'd be hated by most of the neutrals.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

If Baker is able to undo the 2 decades of losing and beat Pitt or Baltimore; he can plant a Browns flag wherever he wants. Heck, he can plant that Oklahoma Univ flag on the O of Ohio State every week if he wants as well.
