So basically the law is junk. I leave the gun on the seat, it gets stolen.
Officer - "where was the gun located"
Citizen not wanting to go to jail - "I locked it in the glove box"
Officer - "well, since we have no way to prove that otherwise....you are free to go" Sir your glove box shows no signs of forced entry.. who has keys to this vehicle?

Again, what does the glove box do. if the car is locked, it was broken into, regardless of the glove box being locked, no? prove I didn't break it now after the fact. . . .

I shouldn't have to prove it. As a law abiding gun owner, aren't you all about respect for the law and for the police and not being a criminal? Yet you are saying that when it comes to self-preservation, you are more than willing to lie to the police and obstruct justice... If those who boldly claim to be law abiding, get to pick and choose when they will be law abiding, then you are correct.. no laws are going to work. So I guess, nevermind.

It's perfectly legal to keep a gun in your car, unattended, if you have a ccw, and if you do it correctly. In fact, it's the law. Here in Ohio - I won't speak for any other state.
Try again.

Try again. That's the point, man. It's entirely way too easy for kids to access their family's firearms. The whole discussion is about a future law that criminally punishes parents for allowing their children to shoot up schools. I believe 75% of school shootings are done with a family member's gun.

Or freaking better yet, I'll tell you right here. If you need to leave your gun in your car, it needs to be unloaded, and hidden. Not sitting on the seat. Just as you wouldn't leave your freaking lap top sit on the seat. Damn.....common sense, and laws, go a long way for most people.

You don't read all posts before you respond? Not always.. generally there are 2 or 3 parallel conversations going on in any thread and, if I see something I wish to comment on, I do not always have time to search back through all of the related posts to make sure what I'm saying hasn't already been answered or if I have exactly the right context.. if you always have time to do that, then I applaud you. Or freaking better yet, I'll tell you right here.

Damn.....common sense, and laws, go a long way for most people. Ok, so Ohio already has the beginnings of a reasonable law.. now.. if you already answered this then I will apologize in advance because no, I didn't go back and look for it so you can snap at me again if it makes you feel better.. What is the penalty for not having it unloaded and hidden? And are there any specific guidelines to what constitutes "hidden"? If it's on the backseat with a sweatshirt thrown on it, is it hidden? If it's halfway kicked under the seat, is it hidden? Does "hidden" just mean out of sight or is it more specific than that?

I kind of think that was the point of him asking you a question If you need to leave your gun in your car, it needs to be unloaded, and hidden. Not sitting on the seat. Asking because I dont really know a lot about CCW laws. Does the law specifically say that it has to be hidden , or are you just saying that is common sense? Damn.....common sense, and laws, go a long way for most people. are you ok Arch? You have been really testy today. This stuff is not that serious , it is all just entertainment

I didn't snap at you. You even admitted that you don't read every post.
Here is what I was told, in my ccw class, a long time ago.
If you need to leave your gun in the car, unload it. Ideally put it in a locked case, and keep the magazine and all other ammo in a different area.
Sounds like common damn sense.
If my car, with a gun in a locked case in the trunk, and the ammo in a compartment in the seating area, is stolen...........how the F is it my fault? The first crime is the affector. (effector - I don't know)
Now, the gun is in my house. Someone breaks into my house and steals the gun. I'm still on the hook? Bull. Dude broke in (crime) stole my gun (crime) used to to commit a crime (2 crimes), and somehow I'M RESPONSIBLE?
Okay.
I break into your garage. I steal your car. I cause an accident. You responsible? Or me? I mean, after all, you didn't have your car locked in a freaking safe - it was only in your locked garage. But, you had the keys in it.
This world is getting screwed up.

(effector - I don't know) It is your fault for not securing your firearm sufficiently. Its like if your dog gets out and bites someone . No matter who did what , it is your fault for not securing your dog properly . Now, the gun is in my house. Someone breaks into my house and steals the gun. I'm still on the hook? Bull. Dude broke in (crime) stole my gun (crime) used to to commit a crime (2 crimes), and somehow I'M RESPONSIBLE? absolutely I break into your garage. I steal your car. I cause an accident. Sounds like common damn sense. Yes it does, but then not leaving a loaded gun sitting beside your living room chair when you have teenagers in the house seems like common sense to me too but others on here have disagreed with that. If my car, with a gun in a locked case in the trunk, and the ammo in a compartment in the seating area, is stolen...........how the F is it my fault? The first crime is the affector. (effector - I don't know) It's not, at least according to me.. that's all I'm trying to discuss Arch.. what level of care should a gun owner be reasonably expected to take.. And then the follow on to that would be, if you fail to follow those reasonable precautions of securing your guns, what is a reasonable punishment if it is used in a crime? And, it's worth pointing out here, that this conversation has been almost exclusively about criminals stealing your car or your guns... I'm more concerned about the home, kids (either yours or their friends) having access to the guns.. which seems to be the common denominator in a lot of these school shootings, the weapons these kids use are often obtained right out of the old mans closet... Now, the gun is in my house. Someone breaks into my house and steals the gun. I'm still on the hook? Bull. Dude broke in (crime) stole my gun (crime) used to to commit a crime (2 crimes), and somehow I'M RESPONSIBLE?
Okay. See my comment above.. no, the second the criminal breaks into your house, they become responsible.. you are not. Now, let's get back to the conversation we should be having... your 17 year old has some friends over, nobody broke in... one of them (yours or a friend) lift one of your guns and take it to school the next day.. are you responsible? How much should you have to protect your guns from invited guests or even relatives or other occupants of the house?

I see it's back to a gun issue again. LOL Y'all say the same stuff over and over again for years on this particular issue.
I have ZERO problems w/stricter gun laws, but if you guys think that is going to curtail the violence from our youths, than you are even more clueless than I think.
Americans love the easy answer. Don't make us think too hard. Draw lines in the sand. Guns/No Guns. Liberal/Conservative. Religious/Not religious.
We trot out canned answers w/rote memorization. It helps desensitize the situation and we fight tooth and nail to get others to accept nonsense that will not solve the real problems in our society.
Just don't make us think or accept the true horrors that are occurring in our society. Avert your eyes from the truth and shout real loud defending positions that are next to meaningless.
Meanwhile, our children our killing others and themselves in record numbers. You reap what you sow.

Meanwhile, our children our killing others and themselves in record numbers. Mostly by using legally owned AR-15's by a lunatic or a child with mental health issues. The attitude of "thoughts and prayers"... "now is not the time" ... "guns don't kill". is a much better approach.

Two threads in a row? You change the subject from gun deaths to abortion. The last thread you changed the subject from Roseann disrespecting the anthem to Obama. lmao

Unwanted pregnancies happen for a variety of reasons to people from all ages, races, incomes, and religions, they have always existed since the dawn of time.. so Pontius Pilate, I'm sorry but you can't just wash your hands of it and pretend it doesn't happen or claim that just because it shouldn't happen, that you have no responsibility when it does... the children that come from it are very real... you are opposed to abortion yet you are also opposed to funding any meaningful programs that could help these children lead decent lives...

The last thread you changed the subject from Roseann disrespecting the anthem to Obama. lmao Are you OK with murdering babies? Are you ok with them being kicked around in the foster care system their entire childhood or being raised by parents who don't want them and don't have the resources to care for them? Don't have unprotected sex. Or get fixed not to have children. Other than being raped they have the choice of protection. Where did I state this..." yet you are also opposed to funding any meaningful programs that could help these children lead decent lives? You made it up.
