If you don't play in the trenches then you are not tough by football standards. He may be tough by WR stabdards but overall he is just another diva WR who barely gets his uni dirty

Oh, I think that a WR can be tough. Definitely. Try going over the middle, into the teeth of a defense, and getting drilled by a LB, S, and/or CB, if you are not tough.
I'll tell you who I think is tough, on our current team. Jarvis Landry. He makes those tough plays over the middle, and never complains about it. He blocks his butt off. He bounces right up from hard hits. He is a tough dude.

I don't know.. I might rather be a guard who stands up and wrestles with a guy my size 60 times a game than a guy who is running full speed across the field and gets laid out by another guy my size running full speed perpendicular to me..
Obviously the definition of what "tough" is in the thread is varied.. some equate it to playing with injury, others equate to a reputation of laying big hits, others equate it to playing a position that has contact on every play...
I've watched what Jim Kelly has gone through with his cancer and always keeping his spirits up and staying positive... Greg Olsen, Panthers tight end, child was born with a serious heart defect and he can admit he draws inspiration from his son... Nate Solder's baby who had cancer and he spent every waking hour by his side... that's toughness my friend.. I'd take as many hits from Ray Lewis or Dick Butkus or Ronnie Lott as I had too, just please God don't make go through that.

Well obviously we are talking toughness on the field, not on a personal level
But I think you severely underestimate the life of a G in football When I first started playing HS ball at first they tried to make me a G and let me tell you taking on a LB head on play after play was not fun at all. As a G we definitely did not stand up and wrestle with a guy. It was fire off the ball on crack helmets every snap of the ball. Unlike the WRs who were out there dancing with some DBs. I switched to DE probably before we even played our first official game and never looked back.
Through HS and a couple years of D2 college we always jokes about kickers, QBS, WRs, and some RBs being pansies. Not all RBs but the RBS who avoided contact at all costs.
Just put it this way, have you ever seen a defensive linemen or LB go out of bounds to avoid contact? Have you seen many QBs, RBs, and WRs go out of bounds to avoid contact ?

Back in the early to mid 90's Gene Williams(RG) and Steve Everett(C) hung out at a local bar in Parma and got to know the owner real well. They'd often jump behind the bar just for shoots and giggles. One night I asked Gene Williams......."who was the toughest DL he ever faced"? His straight faced answer was, bar none, Howie Long. He then threw in "but I got the best of him" followed by a grin/chuckle.
Lotta tough guys out there but if he says so then I"ll go with Howie.
Heinz Ward was a tough player, but I know that won't fly around here. Much like Steve Smith.
yeah he was tough too ... i didn't like when he'd blind side block, but he seemed to always make a big play
