thank god this is finally over....let's hope he crawls back under the rock he came from.

I think Bonds is a great great player, but the record will have an asterik in my mind and any future kids I may have.

A VERY sad day in baseball.

If I was the guy that caught the ball, I will cover it with words like "Cheater" and "Steroids" in permanent marker.........and then sell it on eBay to some dumbass that will overpay for it.

well it hit and boucned to the right... then there was a HUGE scrum to get the ball... once the Mets guy got it like 6 cops escorted him out... it was pretty amazing.

Yeah, but imagine if you ALMOST had it, but the guy next to you got it?

Oh, man that would be devastating.............

I'm not exactly a supporter for Barry, but, I have to say congrats to him.

Eh.. I'm glad it's all over. Now we can get on with better late night sports programming. I was tired of the Giants on tv all the time.

I swear there's a bunch of little girls on this board...it's sad, asterisk this, steroids that...boo frickin hoo!

Until something is proved concretely, accept the fact that the record has been broken, it belongs to Barry.

It's just a game people, it's not the end of existence. Baseball isn't that great of a game to cause all these emotions...football is! In the end, whether there's an asterisk or not, does it really matter. As Barry said, I don't understand why anybody would express hatred towards someone they don't know. Truth is nobody here knows Barry, they know his public persona. So you can hate him as a player, but people hate him as a person, and don't know him...that's stupid.

Amazing part of the whole thing is the fan who got the ball will sell it for half a million dollars...

And some dumbarse will actually pay half a mil for a 50 cent baseball.

One problem.

Kings "rule"

Presidents "Govorn".

Congrats Barry!

Since when does morals and sports have anything to do with each other?

If you have such high morals...you would be incapable of hatred and name calling and what not (not you personally, I can't say I've seen you say you hate him or call him a name, although I'm sure you have)

Morals?!?!.....please!

Don't be silly... the liberal is buried behind the barn under the.... oooooh, never mind.

I just think that,

1. Barry has never been found guilty of anything by baseball or by the criminal justice system therefore regardless of what my suspicions might be, the man is not guilty of anything......

2. This whole "purity of sports" thing... it's OVER. It's been over for 30-40 years. Football, baseball, cycling, the Olympics, there are competitors trying to cheat and some are getting away with it and you may very well be rooting for them. If the Browns win the Super Bowl in 2009 and it is discovered the following year that 2 of their linemen were on steroids will all the Browns fans be clamoring for an asterisk by that Super Bowl title? Hell no they won't, they'll be reaching as deep in their bag of excuses as they have to go to defend why it didn't matter or why it didn't help.....

3. Being a "nice guy" and being a great athlete are not in any way related no matter how much the fans wish they were. Not to mention, from what I've read, Barry Bonds has NEVER been a clubhouse distraction and his teammates seem to like him which is far more important than whether Joe Schmoe (who isn't even a Giants fan) likes him or not...

and 4. It's a sports record, no matter how coveted that record might be, in the end, it's a sports record... which is fairly insignificant in the grand scheme of life and hardly worth raising ones blood pressure over

I agree for the most part nduty. I don't understand all the extreme hatred myself either. Last night I saw a guy who was extremely gratious to his teammates, to the other team, who loved his family, missed his dad and was really happy top see Hank Aaron congratulate him. He's obviously a guy who hates the press, and they seem to do everything in their power to make this guy look like a jerk.

I think it's fairly obvious he did something, but we don't know to what extent (didn't he say he took the clear?). But I don't really care that much ... he's just a product of the system. If Jason Grimsly and Matt Lawton were on steroids ... then who knows who else was on them. And I don't hear people making a big deal about Clemens strikeout record and Gagne's saves record, when they very likely were on performance enhancers as well. In fact, one honestly can't say they are 100% sure that Cal Ripken didn't use something either.

And I like what DC said as well ... if only people knew how much they were cheering their hearts out for steroid users in other cases. They don't seem to mind as much. You have guys like Lance Armstrong, who have almost as much mounting evidence against him but people still defend him to the teeth. I still don't think it takes anything away from Lance that he dominated an event 7 times against guys who were equally doped up as he was.

At any rate, this is still one heck of an accomplishment. And I was happy to see it live. Thank goodness for being on the west coast!

I sit and laugh about all these people talking about how Bonds cheated. First, what rule did he break? Please list the rule that was broken during the time he supposedly took steroids. Second, where is the positive test that he took them? Third, if you are upset that Bonds took something to enhance his performance, then for the sake of your own "morals", I really hope you were also not recognizing Aaron for having the record and Rose for being the all time hits leader. After all, both were playing in the "beanie era" where almost every player in the game was using amphetamines to get up for a day game after a night game. They were as rampant in that timeframe as steroids are today. Performance enhancement is performance enhancement. Stop the hypocrisy.

Well from everything I've learned about Barry it seems he's a very nice guy when the cameras are off. How would you be with the media if they said half the stuff they said about him?

Congrats Barry.

As a child I was obsessed with home runs and hitting the long ball. McGwire breaking the record was one of the best things I ever witnessed. Then he basically admitted to cheating to a grand jury and part of be died inside. The same thing happened all over again last night.

If the guys throwing the balls were on roids, and the guys hitting the ball were on roids, who has the advantage?

CoachB, add into the fact that HGH still isn't against the rules in MLB. One or every player in the league could be doing it and we wouldn't know. MLB isn't testing for it. The Players Union talked tough about cleaning up the game....but balked on the blood tests to catch HGH users.

It's not cheating if it's not against the rules.

Look, I'm not naive. I can see that Bonds was on something. You head doesn't normally grow in size in your 30's. However, I don't know how long he was on "it" or if he's still on "it". He's never tested positive and we know more pitchers have been caught since testing started. As far as I'm concerned, the whole era is tainted. Heck, like someone said above, all sports are tainted now. You just hope the labs/testers stay as close to the dopers as possible for each sport.

I laugh so hard when people act like that. Chances are, there's more current dopers in the NFL than MLB had in its heaviest year. There are new chemicals coming out all the time that these leagues don't know how to test for....and aren't in the steroid policies either.

I'm not going to say, "let them all juice and it'll be more even." The leagues need to keep their sports clean as possible.....but they have to make it a priority. And not testing for HGH in baseball because the Players Union thinks it's too much an invasion of privacy is moronic.

Hope you realize that's your opinion and it's worth as much as others' opinions about Barry and the HR record. Some people really care about the game and the integrity of the records. That doesn't make them 'little girls'. Besides, what's so wrong with little girls?

I love the game, but honestly... how much "integrity" is there in any of the records? We had the pre-blacks era, the negro league, the amphetimine era, the steroid era, corked bats, nail files on the mound, vaseline under the visor, sign stealing from beyond the centerfield wall, the dead ball, the live ball, the juiced ball, an ever shrinking strike zone, no helmets, helmets, elbow protection, shin protection, night games, no night games, grass, artificial turf, field turf, no domes, domes, gambling and game fixing, raising pitchers mound, lowering pitchers mound, designated hitters, no designated hitters, no drug testing, some drug testing .........

So please tell me, which records have "integrity"? Under which circumstances was "real" baseball played by only honest men?
