Some seemed pretty stirred up by the change before today's big teaser mystery reveal. What do you think about the change? Good business decision? I rad it was temporary as far as branding.
Really indifferent myself, but seems half-witted to me, and critics were really ramped up in a few posts elsewhere.
Lot of money to be an iconic brand just to corrupt or dilute or confuse it. Eat up! Thoughts?

I think they are diluting their brand by trying to bring lunch/burgers into it.
Stick with what you are good at and known for.

I love breakfast for dinner, but if I want a good burger I probably go for carryout at 5 Guys or else a good bar burger (grilled onions, grilled bun) and a beer. I have a feeling IHOP is about to learn the lesson that Coca Cola learned with New Coke a few years back.

I have a feeling IHOP is about to learn the lesson that Coca Cola learned with New Coke a few years back. Changing their name and rolling out additional burger options isn't the same as changing the formula of Coke. If the name change is temporary, then it's nothing, just a publicity stunt. If they're also combating slowing pancake sales because of the carb-conscious folks by expanding their menu, then it could be a smart decision. If you were staying away from pancakes because of the sugar and carbs, finding out they have an expanded menu might bring you in. I have a feeling it's more about just causing a stir across social media. I do find it funny that some are now boycotting a restaurant they enjoy because of a letter. Oh well, people like to get outraged about anything.

They are not changing their name .... it's an ad campaign. IHOP reveals the mystery of IHOb http://money.cnn.com/2018/06/11/investing/ihob-ihop-burgers-name-change/index.htmlHowever, they have people talking .... so it's working.

I missed the part about it being temporary. I thought, why would a company whose name was nearly synonymous with pancakes and breakfast mess with that perception? On second thought, it will probably boost their lunch and dinner trade.

I think that they are relatives of Applebee's and they are menu wrangling for more visits per and new customers. I won't go for burgers at the hob, but I gathered this brainstorm didn't play well with some regulars. Wish them all luck. Just wanted to see the psychology and reaction of customers to this move. Seems counter-intuitive.

Speaking of burgers... 5 Guys FTW!
Was in LA last fall and checked out an IN & OUT... Incredibly average compared to 5 Guys. Place was beyond packed, I just don't get it.

Many fond memories of IHOP. For instance, stopping in for breakfast at 4 am. Sometimes while driving all night. Sometimes before going home to bed. "That's right. Leave the coffee pot and back away slowly." Their table syrup varieties were always fun. Boysenberry? My favorite IHOP meal was Potato Pancakes.

used to just love their chocolate chip pancakes. Didn't there used to be an IHOP on Mayfield Road in South Euclid or Lyndhurst?

to me IHOP is just garbage food. We have a mom and pop's place here in south bend that makes omelettes and pancakes that are just head and shoulders above IHOP. http://americanpancakehouse.net/home/2840410If your ever in the South Bend, IN area try them out they are amazing.

I had the same takeaway. It was a fast food burger and fries. Not sure what all the fuss is over. We have a place in Portland called Killer Burger. A thousand times better. Granted it isn’t fast food, but with the lines at In and Out it isn’t much slower.

We drive across Indy a lot, I'll keep that in mind. In general, any mom and pop place will be 95% better than a Denny's, Ihopb or Bob Evan's. It's hard to screw up breakfast food.

What a wretched idea. Gagged just reading it.
I like a good burger, but I don't need some kind of scavenger hunt for the flesh. Putting it under kale, chili, sauces, almost raw egg yolks, 10 condiments, four herbs, veggies, slaw, and whatever else just isn't MY burger. Cheese of choice, bacon, and burger, toast me buns!
Give it me straight, doctor! I can take it!
Some of these burgers look like you were ashamed of 'em, like they need a dowry to bribe people to order them up. Steak, salt, pepper.

I could care less. I never went to IHOP and I wont be going to IHOB.
The queues going in and out at the "In & Out" in southern Oregon are ludicrous. You can just about see the lines from the freeway. And, I too would choose a mom and pop/local over the corporates any day.

I like IHOP at any time during the day.. I get that mom and pops are usually better (sometimes they are also horrible) but when you are driving or in a strange place, you don't have time to look for a mom and pop or don't want to take the risk.. IHOP is as good as any place.. the reason places like IHOP do so well is not because they are great, it's because they are consistent, where as a Mom & Pop might be amazing, might be horrible..
I will say though, the most fun I've had with the whole IHOP thing has been watching Wendy's rip them apart on Twitter...

Portland has a saying..."Keep Portland Weird". It isn't the strange cats riding a unicycle playing bagpipes while wearing a Darth Vader mask (yes, he exists here). That saying started because of all the Independent shops and relative lack of billboard advertisement. People would visit and think it was "weird" that there was no corporate this, that and the other that made them familiar in every other town in the US and also makes every town bland. It made Portland different and it made it weird. Long live the Weird Portland that champions the mom and pop and independents!

I loved it when Burger King tweeted that they will now be known as "Pancake King". Wendy's trolls other restaurants better than anyone, though.

So is it Mexican breakfast food? I just wondered what you might like and order there. We are about to open one here in town which supposedly will feature Mexican breakfast, but I have yet to see a menu or heard it spelled out. Now hiring.
If we go to try it, do you have recommendations?

That BK move was hysterical. Clever.
Does this shake out with OB serving burgers twixt pancakes with cream? Disgusting, but I never believed sandwiches made with glazed donuts were real until i saw them. Figured you had to lose a bet to eat one of those. LOL
