I could use a bit more to go on here. We are screwed consumers was about all that I got. Why are we screwed?

I only buy Spectrums internet service. Wish I had a better option...
I'll never, ever buy television again though.

It's certainly a bad thing for consumers, but really the only decision that made sense. There's about 5 other super high profile mergers that could've been impacted by ruling against AT&T.

I was still busy feeling screwed over net neutrality and being abandoned by Congress.
That is three times we lost at least as common consumers IMO: This, net neutrality, consumer protection, and also EPA. Pretty much abandoned the middle it seems.

I've read THREE articles about this and none of them disclose what the judge was paid. Weird...

I just read an article that clarifies, and says that they are buying Time Warner, (entertainment) not Time Warner Cable and/or internet services. http://www.kansascity.com/news/business/article110197917.html

I wear blinders when it comes to Corporate America any more .. Lack of choice and competition is bad for ME ! .. Hated the United /Continental merger ' The At&T /Directv merger and so on .. Comcast is looking to do a 21st Century Fox merger ( that would be a disaster on so many fronts )

I could use a bit more to go on here. We are screwed consumers was about all that I got. Why are we screwed? Anytime two large companies merge like this, it makes competition smaller and smaller for consumers. Meaning, more and more a monopoly is taking place, thus higher rates to consumers as less competition = less options = companies can charge whatever they want for their service.

I couldn't agree more with the monopoly take, and how bad they are. Not really worried about this one though, or Comcast/21 Fox for that matter.
As much as people hate Amazon nowadays, they'll be the one that sets benchmark on the cost of content... and they'll keep it very low for consumers.

So I own AT&T stock. It pays a nice dividend of 5.76%. I bought in on it’s recent dip well below it’s five year average. Since my buying in it’s been slowly gaining value back. With this news of the merger the stock prices are falling again. It’s down this morning over a dollar a share. Not concerning to me as I’m in it for a longer haul and fully expect it to make me money in the long run. I just found it strange that this merger seemed to effect the stock value in a negative way. One would think AT&T has further solidified itself in the world of communications and entertainment with this merger. Not sure why this news would drop the stock price. Anyone with more experience with this type of thing have any input?

Time Warner won't save AT&T from 'continued erosion' in core businesses, says analyst-MoffettNathanson downgrades AT&T stock from a neutral to a sell and lowers its price target to $28 from $35 to account for the acquisition. -While the deal is a positive for AT&T's income statement, it's a negative for the balance sheet, MoffettNathanson says. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/13/time-warner-wont-save-att-moffettnathanson-downgrades-to-sell.html

Thanks. Well as I said I’m not too concerned. I bought at a super low time. Didn’t go in too deep. If it continues to decrease falling below my current share value I’ll likely continue to dollar cost average in. AT&T isn’t going away. I’ve got time for it to recover market value. Ultimately it’s dividend payouts are better than bank interest on similar money.

Anyone with more experience with this type of thing have any input? Im in banking, not investing....so my advice is in generalities and not anywhere near expert level. But typically, any time their is a merger investors look at it as uncertainty and have a short term negative effect. I would probably ride it out (which it sounds like you are), and don't worry too much.....yet But again, just an opinion, not advice.

Well yeah. TWC was bought by Charter a few years ago, hence the name change to Spectrum. This is all about content, what the cable providers can offer you.
I don't know if it's good or bad for consumers.I have a suspicion that if you're not with ATT,your cable company will be paying more for HBO,and the like, and so will we. This is not going to be last mega deal.Comcast won't sit on the sidelines for very long.

That didn't take long. Comcast offers $65 billion for Fox. I'd link it,but I'm too lazy. This one may not go thru, aas Comcast already has NBC.

Also Disney already has a deal in place with FOX. I know that agreeing to a deal isn't a done deal these days .... but still.

As soon as I watch the rest of my recordings on the DVR we are getting rid of all but the internet (have 2 seasons of TWD to watch). We only had Direct TV so we could watch the games with the NFL package. Since I quit watching NFL and NBA don't need it anymore. We have a Fire Stick, Netflix, Amazon and can get local stations over the air so have plenty of options.

Have not taken the time to look at the Fox deal .. Is it in total or is there a break up of Fox Entertainment and Fox News ?? Comcast getting a hold of Fox News would be a huge coup for the Left , just saying ..
Note : I look at these through old , old , non tech EYES ,lol ..

Somebody should tell one of these monopolies to run their business like a business.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but didn't Trump say that if he became president he would find a way to kill this merger?
