I have a feeling that Coleman could be one of the "surprise" cuts this year. When he is the 3rd WR ... and is quite possibly only that high because a rook is hurt .... well, that doesn't seem to bode well for a former 1st rounder. Haley says that he needs to step it up. Maybe it's just motivation .... but the Browns have had some receivers really show up this off-season. In addition to Gordon and Landry, Ratley, Callaway, Higgins, and CJ Board have all been mentioned as really stepping up, and we brought in Janis as well. (Callaway, obviously before he suffered a minor leg injury) Berry has been working as a KR, and he could be important in that role. I think that WR is going to be a super competitive group. Coleman better really get his mind and body in gear, or he could be out. Todd Haley advises Corey Coleman it's a 'make or break year' for him | cleveland.com https://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/06/todd_haley_advises_corey_colem.htmlCLEVELAND, Ohio -- Todd Haley has come down hard on Corey Coleman a few times this offseason, and has warned him that it's prove-it time in 2018. "He's been out here working,'' Haley said when asked to assess Coleman's play. "I've seen him every day. He understands this is a big, big year in his career. Year three is usually the make-or-break year of what kind of you're going to be. I've made that clear to him. He understands it, and he's working hard accordingly to try to be the best that he can be." Coleman, the 2016 No. 15 overall pick, has lined up on the outside opposite Josh Gordon in three wides, with Jarvis Landry moving into the slot. In two wides, it's been Gordon and Landry. But Coleman has gotten somewhat of a reprieve because fourth-rounder receiver Antonio Callaway suffered a groin injury two weeks ago in OTAs and has been idle ever since. If the rookie were healthy, he'd undoubtedly be stealing some of those reps from Coleman with the ones. "He's just got to keep working at it and that's the biggest thing that he does,'' said new receivers coach Adam Henry, formerly with the Giants. "He comes in early, he works hard, he's taking notes. He's doing the little things, learning the route techniques, things of that nature, just doing the things that he does well and expound on that and tweaking some things. But mentally just being in there. He's champing at the bit. He wants more, so it's just progression each and every day.'' Haley says Mayfield 'has a long way to go' and Taylor is clearly the leader Henry still believes Coleman has big-play ability. His first two seasons were marred by broken hands, and he's been limited to 56 catches for 718 yard and five TDs combined. The last time Browns fans and Haley saw him in a game, he was dropping the potential gamewinning pass against the Steelers in the finale that would've prevented 0-16. What's more, the analytics site profootballfocus.com ranked him 102 out of 116 qualifying receivers. "The skillset is he's a guy who can make plays down the field, and so you have to utilize that so right now, just installing the offense, that's the thing,'' said Henry. "With the new coordinator, new quarterbacks, things of that nature, it's not like we're out there scheming or gameplanning for a particular opponent, so we're just trying to make sure that the guys have the install in, so there's a progression to it. He's doing the things we want him to do, he's coming along.'' Henry also believes that Coleman can benefit from being around Landry, a three-time Pro Bowler. "Whenever you have a guy who's done some things, and goes out works hard each and every day and being a leader, not as far as just motivational, an emotional leader but also a guy who goes and works hard and prepares (it helps).''
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

"It's a make-or-break year."
I think that says it all. I don't think we'll cut him UNLESS his body language is "Whatever, I'm Corey #$@!%& Coleman".
The nice thing, as Browns fans, is the complete 180 in terms of our hopes for CC. Past three years we've had our fingers crossed hoping Coleman can be the man, now we have an elite duo and our fingers our crossed for his sake, not really ours.
I hope the kid can come closer to his potential, if he can do that in a Browns uni, it may very well be true that we have the best WR corp in the NFL. I think Haley is just putting the cards on the table because it's truly time to "put up or shut up".

He wasn’t worth the high draft choice but I hope he at least proves to be serviceable. So far he’s shown little.

Good to hear that he's working to improve. Be great if his big body starts performing well on the field. Seems the coaching staff is stepping up themselves.

I'd think we'd trade him before outright cutting him. While he'd not get us a first (though Grigson is back in the league, we should call Seattle), I'm sure we could get a 5th or 6th for him.

I guess he could be a surprise cut but as it stands now, according to reports....
1st Team Wrs
Outside-- Gordon & Coleman. Slot- Landry.
That's solid. I'm assuming #4 would be Callaway, but considering his past, I think it would be kinda stupid to cut Coleman even if you like Callaway more when you don't know what direction he'll will go down in his rookie year. PLUS, Coleman is still on his rookie deal. PLUS, if Coleman does do well, you can pick up his 5th year option which a a reasonable price tag.
Barring any crazy situation, I think when our OC says it's a "make or break year" I think he means the season, not until August or September.
We'll see.

Competition.
At this point his first round resume doesn't mean a thing.
You are here to prove yourself one way or the other.
Dorsey, Haley they are not vested in Coleman. They are going to keep the best players.
I wish him well. It can only help the team if he lives up to where he was drafted.

He is the vet, he is a former #15 overall pick, he will get his opportunity but I dont think he was worth a 3rd rounder. He cant catch, he cant run a route and he cant stay healthy. Ratley is the forgotten draft pick that could be remembered when final roster spots are handed out. Kid is very precise and with better QB play, he could be special.

Cutting Coleman doesn't make much sense because of his contract, if someone is willing to trade something with at least a little value I think he is gone.

Unless we are offered a 3rd round pick ... I think that we are better off to keep him, at least for this season.
Here is my early projection;
WR: 5-6
12 Gordon, Josh 80 Landry, Jarvis 19 Coleman, Corey 11 Gallaway, Antonio PR (R) 13 Janis, Jeff #6? 81 Higgins, Rashard 89 Berry, Evan (UDFA) ^KR
PS canidates;
18 Ratley, Damion (R)^ 16 Board, C.J. 10 Scott, Da'Mari (UDFA) 84 Willies, Derrick (UDFA)

Until he gets clothes-lined, anyway. It really does seem like Laundry is turning the tide for our team though. I can't wait to cheer for him next year. His production will be a huge gain for our offense. I really hope he takes his arm and hammers us through to be a great team and that our success lasts seven generations.

I am interested to see how the new KO rules will effect the outcome of the final roster.
It could mean that your 4-6th WR might have to be one or more of the multiple KRs', or we might be forced to keeping a 4th RB over perhaps a 9th guy (young OT) on the OL...

Anyway, back to Coleman, I think we all agree that he has to get over the dropps.

Drops n' health, horrible things to both have to deal with at the position of WR and he's definitely in the realm of having to. "Surprise cut"... nah, not to me. Would I love for him to prove me wrong? Absolutely.

Kind of upside with catching and health injury issues. Certainly could be better.
Not the kind of upside a player might want. Hope he blows us all away. Could be interesting mix we have here, maybe scary good.

He's very talented but I hope that with Dorsey here he will be the last high invested WR that we get which has the words..."HANDS SUSPECT" in his bio.
That's like a QB with the words "Accuracy suspect" in their bio. Gordon, Landry, Duke, Calloway...all have excellent hands...Coleman just doesn't fit and if you ask me will be possibly our 5th WR...I don't see him on our roster not with mid First round contract money!

Browns Rumors: 'Doubts Remain' About Corey Coleman's Work Ethic, Football IQ https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2781...hic-football-iqThis offseason has created quite a bit of excitement around the Cleveland Browns (yes, the same team that went 0-16 last year), but there reportedly isn't the same type of buzz surrounding 2016 first-round pick Corey Coleman. According to Scott Petrak of BrownsZone.com, there are "doubts" about the third-year wideout's work ethic and football IQ. Cleveland offensive coordinator Todd Haley made it clear Thursday, via Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, that it's time for Coleman to prove himself. "He's been out here working. I've seen him every day. He understands this is a big, big year in his career. Year three is usually the make-or-break year of what kind of you're going to be. I've made that clear to him. He understands it, and he's working hard accordingly to try to be the best that he can be." Since being taken with the No. 15 overall pick in 2016, the 5'11", 185-pound receiver has been underwhelming. He's had 56 receptions for 718 yards and five touchdowns through his first two years. And of course, he will always have a spot in Cleveland sports lore for sealing the second 0-16 season in NFL history with a late drop on 4th-and-2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. Injuries have hampered him, though. He has been limited to 19 games as the result of breaking his right hand in each of his first two seasons. While the Browns offense has lacked playmakers in recent years, that is no longer the case. Wideout Josh Gordon is cleared to play, and Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry has been added to the receiving corps. Not only that, but Tyrod Taylor (and No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield) should also give the team a boost at quarterback. Cleveland receivers coach Adam Henry believes Coleman can still be the player Cleveland thought it was getting, as he told Cabot: "The skill set is he's a guy who can make plays down the field, and so you have to utilize that so right now, just installing the offense, that's the thing. With the new coordinator, new quarterbacks, things of that nature, it's not like we're out there scheming or game-planning for a particular opponent, so we're just trying to make sure that the guys have the install in, so there's a progression to it. He's doing the things we want him to do, he's coming along."

Coleman's contract is fully guaranteed, so that could have a part in why no one wanted to give up anything for him.
The Browns want to trade him so they don't have to pay his entire contract. Other teams want to wait till the Browns cut him so they can sign him for the minimum. (or thereabouts)
Possibly another team will have an injury at the position, and will throw a 6th or 7th at the Browns for Coleman.

Coach implies it's make or break this season. Which means put out, or get out. We traded for Landry, drafted Calloway and Rat.

I don't know how Calloway or Ratley will do but it's hard to imagine them doing as bad or worse production wise than Corey. He sure looks like another wasted 1st round pick.

None of that makes Coleman a better option if he doesn't improve a lot this training camp.
If he's not a good receiver, it doesn't matter who's ahead of him.
