Only the first round but It's a windy one out there! Love to see these guys challenged! Most tournaments are way to easy for them.

I'm finding the course visually boring! Complete opposite of Augusta!

My two favorites are off to slow starts (Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson)

Hey, next week is Connecticut's turn in the PGA spotlight - The Traveler's Championship.

Watching a recap right now. The wind was brutal, making an already difficult course even harder.
I'd like to see Tiger climb back into it tomorrow, inch closer and make the cut.
I like the golf course, looks a little like a British Open type course.

man, the course looks difficult

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Guy is 6'4". He can generate some power. 36 hole leader! Gretzky's greatness goes with him!

A lot of big names below the cut line. TV ratings will take a hit (or at least won't spike too high).

One guy under par after 36 holes. Tough course. I hope the wind kicks up, I like watching train wrecks.

I like watching them struggle with the rough, but not so much on the greens. If it's like a hardwood floor, I think that's unfair. Putting is hard enough in good conditions.

I like that the rough is sometimes crazy hard. You hit it that wide, here's your penalty of trying to hit it out of 2 foot high grass. But the green too?

As good as DJ looks, I wouldn't be shocked to see him choke it away. I don't want him to, but didn't he already choke away a US Open? And wasn't there a situation of grounding his club in the sand (which I think has been changed as a rule, right?).

Sorry, too many questions.

He'll NEVER win a US Open. And he's been so damn close too. Come on, that double on 18 at Winged Foot? Ouch.

He's an all timer, no doubt, but that was bush league. He's going to get crushed for that, and he probably deserves every bit of it too. That is a BIG no-no in golf. If he was that frustrated, just fake an injury on the next hole and walk off.

And so have many of the top PGA golfers.

This is the US Open, it’s a test of par. It’s a test of ability, imagination and most of all, it’s a test of course management. It’s an outdoor sport and weather conditions can change, but that is always an accepted risk. All the players, play to the same hole placements.

As long as all the players are playing the same course, with the same pins, its all fair. JMO

As much as I love to see these guys challenged you shouldn't stick the middle of the green, roll and end up 20 yards, down a hill and in the first cut! A bit unfair.

Regardless of their final score, the winner of this tournament will be the golfer who golfed their ball better than all the other golfers, as it should be.

Yeah... people need to get off of Phil... who cares if he hit his ball while moving... all of us have done it.... get over it... I wish he would have knocked it into the fans and walked off...

I can't watch the us open... make a fair course...

I think they decided not to DQ Phil because the conditions were so bad.

Could have been Phil's way of protesting the conditions as well.

I only saw the last few groups today.
I can't stand Phil, he's a phoney IMO so I hope it was worse than you guys are describing.

Couple thoughts: the drunks who yell after a tee shot are attentions-seeking little goofs. That has to stop. British Open fans do not act like fans at the US Open, no offence to Americans but it's obvious.

Course is tough, but they all have to play it. I'm sure some of the pin placements are ridiculous but that's the way it goes at the US open ... Whoever wins this will have earned it. I'd like to see Rose win it, or an unknown guy, or Dustin Johnson. There's a lot of good stories at the top of the leaderboard.

Another thing: Joe Buck is not good at golf and this crew is mediocre. I realize FOX is new to calling the US Open, but I miss Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller.

Phil's play (something I've done) should be pretty memorable for awhile.

My favorite event in recent golf history though is Sergio Garcia's Tin Cup meltdown at the Masters. That was epic.

I think the unfairness came into play when the afternoon began ... they placed pins and laid out the course to be right on the edge when the day BEGAN ... and then the wind, dryness, and weather brutally changed the course.

In total: the guys in the morning played a tough course and the guys in the afternoon played an unfair course.

Jim Furyk teed off at 1:53PM and shot a 72, 6th to last group.
Brooks Koepka teed off at 2:37PM and shot a 72, 4th to last group.
Justin Rose teed of at 2:48PM and shot a 73, 3rd to last group.

In the later tee times there were scores out there. Don't forget the wind also started to lay down towards the end of the day too. Dustin Johnson went out in 41 but came in, in 36. The guys teeing off at 12:30PM to 1:00PM probably had it the worst, it was tough all day for them.

Branden Grace teed of at 12:37PM and shot a 72.

No one is saying it wasn't hard, it's our national tournament, it's supposed to be hard. This isn't the John Deere Classic or the Tournament of Champions, cupcake tournaments for people that prefer to see these guys light it up and go low are on the schedule too.

To say it wasn't fair, is well, not fair to say.

Hey next week:

(Single-digits under par has not won this tournament since Nick Price won at 9-under in 1993.)

Don't like to use unfair. The conditions changed no doubt. You'd sure rather be in the last groups as opposed to the early though! It could be bad in the morning and nice in the afternoon or vice versa. It's an outdoor game affected by the weather and they are playing at the highest level so you must deal with whatever comes your way!
