Its going to be interesting to see who can survive this WR battle. I like Janis too. Coleman needs to stay healthy and be productive. He has skill, but he needs to show the production potential as he had shown in college.
Just the dawg in me..........

Actually, the Frisman Jackson/Rannell Hall award should go to some UDFA WR who comes in and wows in OTA/TC but then has little to no impact on the regular season. Janis is not an UDFA, and comes to the Browns with a body of work from his time with Green Bay. CJ Board is the guy who most fits the profile for the Jackson/Hall award.

plus, the difference is Janis was actually on a roster (a good one) for a few years

Question is ... Will he be given the opportunity? He has the opportunity now ... The #3 WR is a wide open competition ... i’m not sure who it would be “handed” to for Janis to be ruled out and never give a chance ... If Janis, Calloway or Coleman step up and become a legite #3 we very well could have BAR NONE the best WR group in the league .... Were right there with the best in 2 wide comparisions ... we are either tied for the top slot with Pitt or a smidge behind ... others than that ... our 1 and 2 WR’s are better than most and compare favorably with the other good ones ... Think about this for a sec ... last year i'm not sure their was a team in the nfl that would have traded their WR rooms for ours ... now ... i’d say almost all would in a heartbeat ... were very top heavy right now with J & J .... and we have some guys with some potential at #3 .. How much our WR’s have improved is only overshadowed because of how much our QB room has improved ... but to be realistic ... the WR room has IMPROVED MUCH more ... TT is not to the QB position what Landry is to the WR position ... The upgrades we made on O at the skill positions are UNMATCHED in the HISTORY of the league ...

If injuries happen.....maybe.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

I know that he is on the team, but that in itself does not equal ... equal opportunity.
I don't know if that will be the case here, but I certainly don't think that he was given equal opportunity in GB.
Just sayin my friend that there are always other factors.

I hope the Competition will bring the best out of Coleman ...

I agree there are other factors Mr. Fl ... i just dont see who it is that would be “handed” the job ... i think the 3rd WR spot is WIDE OPEN ... Your thoughts on who the #3 is or will be in your eyes ... In GB he was given shots ... he had a chance to beat out Devante Adams for the 3rd slot behind Jordy and Randall ... he couldn’t do it ... the fact he couldn’t do that worries me until I consider that Adams is a STUD ... Now what worries me is they let Janis walk knowing Nelson was gone ... now they have the stud in Adams and a declining Cobb .. after that the cubbards pretty bare .... Oh well ... this is by far the BEST “PROBLEM” we’ve had at WR maybe ever ... hopefully Janis can learn how to run routes ... if not we got one of the best gunners in the league ... GOOD LUCK JEFF ....

GOOD LUCK JEFF .... I don't think that anyone will be handed the job, but familiarity with players who are holdovers might come into the debate when it comes to that time. It's human nature to favor a longer relationship, when push comes to shove. I think that Coleman will see most of the 3rd WR reps, but Callaway will push him and I think that he will eventually take those reps away from him. He is a natural receiver. As far as a gunner ... We need a couple of them too, and our 5-6th WRs' will have to play on STs' just to make the team imo. It's going to be hard for one of the rookies not named Callaway to make the 53 man roster ... without a ST role on the team. Higgins is not known for his ST play, but at this point I see him and or Janis trying to hold off the rookies/FAs' for those final two roster spots ... assuming we will keep the average of six. Ratley I think is on record as saying that he would like to play on the ST units, and thats a good thing for him, because he is behind some veterans WRs' in that regard. So Janis might receive some competition for a ST roster position from him too. I have Ratley preliminarily projected to our PS to begin the season. With a longer term outlook on ST returning KOs' and punts ... I am not sure that it would be in the best interest of the team to have our starting SS and our 3rd option @WR exposed unnecessary on every return, if we can groom a guy like Evan Berry to be a specialist, then I think that would be ideal ... to not have to rely so heavely on players already filling other roles on the team.

1st Team Wrs
Outside-- Gordon & Coleman. Slot- Landry.
That is ONLY in 3-WR sets. If there are only 2 WR's out there, it is Gordon and Landry, with Coleman on the sideline. He hasn't done enough to prevent one of the youngsters from being able to leapfrog him - yet. A lot of you are counting on meathead being there. He might be but he very well could screw up again and be out. If he's here then fine but do not COUNT on him being there. That's a bad bet to make. Actually he has shown to be a different player this go round. I don't know how close you follow him. But he has changed. He has given up drinking. He has fixated on being a Gym Rat in the off season and not a party kid. He has actually worked hard at his trade to be the best. He put himself into REHAB for the first time. He has shown nothing but commitment this go round and probably his last chance go round.
I'll take that bet and thinks its a good one

You're basing the supposed greatness of our WR group on meathead and he didn't look so great to me when he played last year. Wouldn't you like to see him actually play like a top-five receiver before stating he is one... Maybe he gets back his old form and makes the day he reaches FA an even harder decision, or maybe all that time screwing around has taken its toll? I want to see exactly how dedicated he is to football and this team. Running off at the mouth about being the best isn't actually helping my believing he's matured. Brash and cocky we don't need. Touchdowns, those we DO need and lots of them.

Gordon looked great last year, considering he had hardly played for the past 3 years. He came in during week 11, with really bad QB play .... and averaged 18.6 yards/catch. That is explosive big play ability, especially given the QB(s).I don't even remember .... did he take part in training camp last year? I know he didn't have any catches in the preseason.
After he returned from suspension, he averaged more than 6 yards per catch more than any other WR on the team. (except Treggs, who only had 5 catches)
I am still on the fence concerning Gordon's long term prospects, but his talent is undeniable. If his head is finally right, he is a top 5 WR, talent-wise.

I’ll just forget what i saw from a man last year that hadn’t played in over 2 years i believe walk right in in game 12 or 13 and DOMINATE a few games ... i’ll JUST FORGET THAT ... I’ll just base my opinion on what TT and Baker have said about the man ... i believe it was Baker that said “he can do things other men can’t” or something to that affect .... i believe TT said “i’ve seen him do things I’ve never seen done before” ... wait that may have been Landry ... that might have been in the vid where Landry pimped him ... He’s a FREAK ... if he stays SMART he’s gonna have a year ...

Listened to the WR coach today and he said Corey has been coming in early and etc. I love hearing it. Effort was something I questioned but couldn't confirm because he was always hurt/on the sidelines both in games and in practices.
We really could use him and with attention going to guys like Landry and etc, he could make himself a target instead of having the #1 corner blanketing him and shutting him down.

I think there is definitely a different motivation with the players this year regarding competition. One, there are good veteran leaders and they are showing the younger players how to work hard and compete.
