CNN) — Recreational marijuana use will soon be legal in Canada after the Senate passed a "historic" bill on Tuesday with a vote of 52-29.
Canada is only the second country in the world -- and the first G7 nation -- to implement legislation to permit a nationwide marijuana market. In the neighboring US, nine states and the District of Columbia now allow for recreational marijuana use, and 30 allow for medical use.
Bill C-45, otherwise known as the Cannabis Act, stems from a campaign pledge of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to keep marijuana away from underage users and reduce related crime.
The act to legalize the recreational use of weed was first introduced on April 13, 2017, and was later passed at the House of Commons in November. The Senate passage of the bill was the final hurdle in the process.

Uruguay was the first country to legalize marijuana's production, sale and consumption in December 2013.

I've always felt that the only sensible and achievable end to the drugs problem is an abrupt end to prohibition....

human beings are experience driven creatures... we will climb mountains, orbit the earth, and go to the freaking moon looking for new experiences.....and if people will go to these lengths for exploration.....then its an absolute certainty that some people will ingest substances in an effort to experience something new..

with that said, its not far fetched to assume that people will always use drugs. and so long as people use drugs, there will always be demand for drugs...and with demand, someone will always assume the risk to make huge profits supplying that demand....

this truth is undeniable...

therefore, the only sensible plan begins with an end to prohibition and a new effort to combat the harm that can be caused with drug use...yes, harm reduction....

this is the only way to solve the worlds drugs problem...
