Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy says he's retiring effective July 31. Kennedy stepping down would mark a second high-court pick for President Trump.

I can understand this. Definitely should at least be optional. I mean not on local channels.

The 6 o'clock news is fine for a Supreme Court justice announcing their retirement.

It is big news. But not earth shattering.

Leave soapus-interuptus for local weather warnings, imminent local danger and royal weddings. (and royal baptisms)

I just hope Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn't die. She looks like a corpse in most photos/clips. 6-3 with a couple alt-righters would be the end of any resemblance of a court representing the population. Being conservative is already not representative of the majority of Americans.

2+ years? Will it take 60 votes?

From what I understand, it takes a simple majority in the Senate, 50 votes.

It can be filibustered though and then require 60 votes.

Unfortunately, Garland was nullified under the Biden Rule.

McConnell referenced the Biden Rule, an idea that dates to 1992. Back then, Biden warned against hypothetical Supreme Court confirmation hearings during a contentious presidential election, saying it would be "not fair to the president, to the nominee or to the Senate itself."

He is correct, they used the nuke option to get Gorsuch though. It now only takes the 50 votes.

Criminal and civil distinctions aren't altered by whether or not charges are state or federal.

Also, you might want to stay away from "other threads", considering this morning you had to yet again run away from another one with your tail between your legs.

Here is the federal law, 40:

Quote:
(b) Improper time or place; civil penalties Any alien who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to enter) the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty of—

(1) at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or

(2) twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of an alien who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under this subsection.

Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed

Is this a civil federal misdemeanor, or a criminal federal misdemeanor?

Take your time, and read carefully. Let me know if you have any trouble with the bigger words.

See, you still don't understand the difference. rofl

You talked and talked your way around it over there but we see you. tsktsk

Then you ran away from the thread.

I did not run away from a thread, I simply got tired of talking to you.

40: ALL RACISM IS WRONG! DO YOU HEAR ME? ALL RACISM IS WRONG!

PDR: Then why do you post YouTube tribute videos to a guy who has been fined repeatedly for refusing to rent apartments to blacks, or let them deal him blackjack cards?

40: I'm done with this conversation.

The 40 cycle:

1) say something that draws the ire and mockery of everyone (ex. - "anti-white racists are trying to keep white people out")

2) get all heated, using lots of emojis and bold yellow ALL CAPS writing to scream a phrase over and over(ex. - "ALL RACISM IS WRONG!!!"

3) "I'm done with this conversation"

It's a pretty simple question, 40. And, it's the darndest thing...you always get tired of a conversation *right* when it comes up -

If you oppose racism in all of it's forms, then why do support a guy who has multiple fines for blatantly racist activities, alongside a long dark history of racist remarks and actions?

Honestly, dude, just grow a pair and admit that the guy's reactionary racism appeals to you. You're not fooling anyone, and it would lead to so much less embarrassment for you.

40 definitely has a reputation as a subtle ironist who delivers witty barbs through Swiftian-impression, and NOT as a gullible and easily duped person who struggles with basic education skills and speaks before thinking.

The point is that your reputation precedes you, which limits the ability to stretch irony (which you weren't really doing, anyway).

A good example was the day everyone was making fun of Stephen Miller, which made you mad, so you said "In high school I liked to pull girls hair until they screamed". It fell incredibly flat, and you got made fun of even more, and then you tried to counter with "No, no, it was ironic, I was doing irony".

But when you're a guy with a long history of saying very bizarre things that express admiration for rapists, pedophiles an all-around creeps, trying to do an ironic emulation comes across as sincere, not ironic.

In the same respect, you're kind of widely known as a laughingstock on the boards. I mean, is this guy trolling by inventing an incredibly gullible and simple character, or is he really like that?

So when you try to pull, "oh, I was being ironic, to mimic", it's either going to fall flat, or seem like you're trying to hastily cover a small error.

A good example for me is if I tried to pull off an ironic joke or statement about being incredibly drunk or high, it probably wouldn't work, and would lead to concern, because my reputation preceded me and prevented any sort of ironic statement in that regard.

The last 3 years of his life were an active push against irony because he thought it was ruining people by making them overly callous and accepting of dogged fates.

President Gentle in "Infinite Jest" is probably the closest approximation to Trump before Trump, though.
