Oh completely, unfortunately his ideas on the future of literature, past post-modernism has steered literature to go that direction.
President Gentle was certainly a look into the future by him. I wish someone would have told him that Trump would become president in a decade, to give him hope to keep on going. His fetishisation of Midwestern empathy gets turned on it's head by Donny (Of course after a me too scandal, DFW would vote Trump and begin to propagate him as some sort of Strong American leader). At least that's my take on it.

I just wanted to mention that the Democrats originated the "nuclear option" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_optionIn November 2013, Senate Democrats used the nuclear option to eliminate the 60-vote rule on executive branch nominations and federal judicial appointments other than those to the Supreme Court. In April 2017, Senate Republicans used the nuclear option to eliminate the exception for Supreme Court nominees, after the nomination of Neil Gorsuch failed to meet the requirement of 60 votes for ending the debate. It often happens that those who live by the sword eventually die by it. It just happens that the Democrats died by their own sword sooner that they ever imagined.

That's not going to end any time soon. Obama relied heavily on executive orders, which is why Trump could dismantle everything he did so easily. Trump's gonna have the same fate with his EO's. He has trouble with the legislative branch because he's an idiot who can't stay out of his own way, so he took up Obama's torch on EO's. But the real power is the courts. The Democrats never understood that, and it's going to crush them in the coming decades.

I don't know about that. The good thing you have going for you is conservatives tend to be thinkers and many have some sense of reason. Many don't walk the walk as straight and their liberal counterparts.
Kennedy was appointed by President Reagan. While a conservative, he was looked at as the court swing vote.
If a strict conservative is confirmed, my guess is CJ Roberts will be even more of a swing vote then he has already been.
I don't think reasonable minded people want a court to just ram through any side agenda.
I just wish I saw a little cooperation out of the left leaning justices.
This last vote on the President power to stop immigration for security reasons is a good example. No reasonable minded jurist can say he doesn't have that power.
They let some of his tweets talk for them, yet the order presented to them was legal, non discriminatory, or faulty.
They voted against it simply because they don't like him. I expect better out of Supreme Court Justices.
They were allowing their bias to make their rulings. If that is where the court is headed, this nation is done.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

No reasonable minded jurist can say he doesn't have that power. I don't disagree. He could've won this decision before Gorsuch was even seated if he had the bare minimum of common sense. The reason it took this long is because he's a barely literate moron who kept saying "Muslim ban" in print and at rallies to whip up the hooting rubes in attendance. Almost every strike in district courts came about because he was too stupid to not ramble on and on.

You lose me with comments about moron.
That said, we agree, he has the authority to do this.
That is really the bottom line of what this was about, and yet we had 4 Supreme's say he didn't. That is scary to me.

If you don't think Donald Trump isn't a moron, then you've not only lost me, you've lost reality.
He certainly has some savant-like tendencies, but he's easily one of the dumbest figures in american history.
The entire late 80's & 1990's was blanketed with him being an idiot failson who burnt through any dime he could inherit or get loaned while going on "Extra" or "Access Hollywood" or Letterman to bellow about what a successful businessman he was while he was losing his shorts because he kept getting duped.
Once the bank forced him to turn over decision making decisions because he was so bad at it he became a game show host.
You don't burn through the hundreds of millions he was gifted and fail so spectacularly without being a moron.
He's literally the exception to the rule "the house always wins". He had a government-subsidized casino and managed to fail at it.
Do you know how dumb you have to be to botch a taxpayer-funded casino?

Sottomayor's dissent was interesting.
The dissenting view was that 45's rhetoric and the newly-written policy were still essentially one and the same, and that a slight change in wording was not enough to change this to anything but what it has always been: a ban on a specific religion.
It was interesting to hear the reasoning from the other pov. I don't know law well enough to take a particular position, but after hearing the synopsis of her dissent, I could see it either way.
Guess that's why I DON'T wear a robe.

If you're going to take the time to copy and paste the list of nominees that Heritage Foundation provided Trump with, the least you could do is credit the original author with a link. Someone at the New York Times put in in the work to compile the Heritage Foundation's list. Please credit them when you're copying and pasting the list someone will hand Trump while he screams at the TV. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/27/us/politics/trump-list-supreme-court-nominees.html(Also I know a guy on that list personally; Don Willett is a good dude. He was on the first Heritage Foundation list of "Trump picks", too. He would never make it, because he's intelligent and thoughtful and funny and decent; 10 minutes in a room with trump and he'd be crossed off)

I copy and pasted part of the article from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and they just gave credit to the White House, dated Nov. 17. http://www.staradvertiser.com/2018/06/27...court-nominees/Sorry for the inconvenience.

Do you seriously believe the imbecile who spends every morning watching "FOX & Friends" and screaming about who is being mean and unfair to him actually made his own list of potential judges, and that his list just so happens to match the long-standing list of Heritage Foundation judges, down to the letter? Also, I laughed out loud at "excuse me, sir, but the Honolulu Star Advertiser said Trump made the picks. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Corker, Flake, Collins, and McCain can b-slap trump here... hmmm. It could get interesting. I am preparing for a full blown emotional breakdown over Trump's pick by the unhinged Left. That part should be the most interesting.

That part should be the most interesting. You once spent a day arguing that Trump would've ran into the Parkland shooting unarmed to stop it, and got banned for melting down when DCDAWGFAN - one of the kinder and most thoughtful guys around - mocked you for it. But by all means, go on about unhinged full blown emotional breakdowns.

Trump could heal the divide by appointing Merrick Garland. A great chance to win over some dems... I was thinking that yesterday... and would have thought that reasonable except the way Dems and liberals have acted since he was elected, there's no incentive for him to. Even if he did, it wouldn't move the needle one iota in the direction of civility towards him or his supporters. You guys would instead view it as having gotten over on him. He's been given even more incentive to go Gorsuch 2.0

FOX & FRIENDS 7:15 A.M.: Jimmy Fallon made fun of President Trump last night
TRUMP, 7:27 A.M.: Why is dopey Jimmy Fallon being mean to me? It hurt my feelings and it's so unfair and I'm so mad and I'm definitely not crying
WHITE HOUSE, 11 A.M. : The President officially spent the morning watching TV

Trump could heal the divide by appointing Merrick Garland. A great chance to win over some dems... There is only one reason Obama nominated Garland, that that was for appearances. He knew that there was no chance that the Republicans would bring his nominee to a vote. The Republicans had already said that they were not going to bring any nominee to the Senate. There was no potential political hay in putting forth a nominee like Kagen or Sotomayor. He wanted to try to make the Republicans look bad. Obama didn't want Garland on the Court. It was all a political move. The Republicans just played this game better. I think this might have been the biggest reason Trump won. People didn't want Clinton making the nomination. Actually, it was a pretty gutsy move, given that Clinton was leading in polls, and she could, and probably would have put forth a very liberal nominee, instead of Garland, had she won. I shudder to think what the court could look like had Clinton won. Conservatism would have been dead for decades to come. I don't like Trump, but in this regard, I am happy that he is President.

"The right-of-center president nominating a right-of-center nominee knew exactly what he was doing. Also, I don't like the weird immoral creep who replaced him, but I'm glad he's president" is a very precise summation of what you just said.

He's been given even more incentive to go Gorsuch 2.0 The ingrained problem with trying to appeal to people's civility and morality is that some people might just not have it. ^Quoted for Truth Donald Trump and his direct underlings definitely have civility and morality. ^Quoted to offer a sponge to soak up the dripping sarcasm. We wouldn't want OSHA shutting down DT 'cuz someone slipped and fell

Trump could heal the divide by appointing Merrick Garland. A great chance to win over some dems... That wouldn't heal anything.. the dems don't want to heal anything.. giving the dems an olive branch as important as an SC seat would be like giving a chicken nugget to a gator.. it might be happy for about 2 seconds, but it's still going to eat you as soon as it gets the chance.
