I don't like the tone of the new left. They sound like the old right. Insulting and harrassing people who don't have similar viewpoints. That isn't my left. Be careful, I said the same thing a few times and they will mock you for it at every turn. Two angry reactionary white dudes commiserating about how they don't get the respect they deserve anymore because they whined themselves into Jordan Peterson status is peak America. We'd be lucky to reach Jordan Peterson status... he's makin bank and changing lives for the better. He's making bank, yes. But could you explain to me how a guy who *literally* weeps when he talks about Disney movies because he thinks they're too gay is changing lives for the better? Can you point me to a clip of that? Or at least a transcript? I've heard and seen dozens of hours of Peterson and not once have I ever come across anything close to that. Not saying it isn't out there (he does have over 300 hours of lectures online prior to all these interviews and appearances) but saying something is "too gay" doesn't sound like anything he's said. http://time.com/5176537/jordan-peterson-frozen-movie-disney/

Eh, not a particularly good reference.
A) it's one long ass run on sentence and
B) Vice was notorious for it's dishonest editing and hit piece they did when he sat down for an interview.

Here's Jordan Peterson, a Kermit the Frog-sounding moron crying, which he does constantly (he can rarely get through a lecture without weeping like an imbecile) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvBm0ZUfe7IImagine thinking that dude is bright and helping people.

The real question is what is the moral answer to responding to immoral acts like hate speech, or putting children in cages? How can we morally address these issues? First, be consistent. Whether the line of demarcation is black/white, Christian/Muslim, gay/straight, democrat/republican, southerner/yankee.. be consistent. When something like that happens, you have to express the same outrage whether the person/group doing it is somebody you never agree with or somebody you are normally proud to associate with... be consistent. Second, focus your moral outrage on the act, not on the person. Make others defend the act, not the person. Generally people, even ones who bad things, have some redeeming qualities that others can defend... so make them defend this one particular act.. not the overall character of the person who committed the act. Third, keep your emotions under control.. if you get emotional it's not a debate anymore, it's a shouting and insults match.. nobody wins... even if you are right, you don't win... and you certainly aren't going to sway anybody to your way of thinking that way... Fourth, if it starts to get emotional or if the other side is just unwilling to even listen, walk away. Doesn't mean you have to give up your quest or beliefs or become inactive, just means you need to find a different path. It's like this MB, a lot of of pol threads turn into the same 8-10 folks shouting insults back and forth at each other over and over again.. when it gets to that, a lot of other people just walk away.. I don't know if it makes them feel better or what their motivation is.. it certainly isn't winning the argument and it certainly isn't changing anybody's mind.. it's just noise. People confuse inaction with civility too many times. Perhaps.. to paraphrase SC Justice Potter Stewart, "..not sure I could succeed in intelligently describing civility to you, but I know it when I see it."

That was an interview he did with Jim Jefferies. Vice didn't produce it, they merely aggregated it. But please explain how this dunce who tripped over himself on the most obvious counter argument to his point is helping people.

But please explain how this dunce who tripped over himself on the most obvious counter argument to his point is helping people. which argument are you referring to? You made the claim he was literally crying over Disney movies being too gay, then threw a bunch of quick Googled stuff up... one was about Disney, but he didn't cry, didn't say anything about gay... then throw up a separate vidoe of him actually crying... and ridiculed the guy who got emotional as he delved in to his experiences researching the dark psychology that led to ordinary people committing mass murder when they put group identity over the sovereignty of the individual in the pursuits of Nazism, and Communism (most notably in Stalinist and Maoist China). I mean, dude, if you want to make fun of a guy who weeps at the thought of how and why literally nearly a 100 million people were murdered in the last century due to political ideology.... good luck with that LOL It's Peterson's conduct in the face of that exact behavior that draws people to him.

I must have missed where he talked about Communism and Nazism or that happened before or after that specific clip. However, he has cried a lot when thinking about the young, individual male. Of course this isn't surprising with a Jungian. The surprising thing about Peterson, to me, is how little he understands of communism and nazism. Again, this is probably due to his reliance on Jungian archetypes to define his world view. I believe he claims that Germany lost the war, because they wanted to lose the war, due to the fact, that they were so efficiently organized, it didn't make sense that they would want to exterminate all the Jews unless they wanted to lose the war. Quite frankly I find his reliance on archetypes completely incompatible with his views on the individual. You cannot praise the individual, while assigning people to archetypes. Either you're an individual or an archetype, there is no in between. Even If you're choosing between archetypes, then you're not an individual, but whatever archetype you must be for that occasion. Also, didn't Jordan Peterson "suggest" enforced monogamy the other week? I thought I read about that too. Again, the Jungian can never really think about the individual.

I don't know, man. Your side seems to be throwing the most insults.
And it bothers me because I have always been a liberal. I've always been a Dem.
I don't like the tone of the new left. They sound like the old right. Insulting and harrassing people who don't have similar viewpoints. That isn't my left. Be careful, I said the same thing a few times and they will mock you for it at every turn. You probably already know this, but I don't really give a damn about what most people on here think. LOL Gotta be true to oneself.

LOL Gotta be true to oneself. You speak your mind often, as do I. That's why we spend so much time in time out... I'm much like you in the real world. I don't go out and march or like those damn pink kitty hats, I don't tell my friends & family on the right that they are stupid, and I try to keep the peace or avoid politics in discussions with them. BUT this forum is here to express political views. It is a confrontational forum because certain posters like to express outrageous and offensive personal beliefs. There is very little intellectual or rational debate on the posts. If you try to be friendly, you get run over by a few posters on the right. If you try to bring up anything that makes Trump look bad, you get absurdity and nonsense in exchange. The left in here can either play whack-a-troll, be dismissive and condescending, jump in the mud with the mcnasties, or get run over. There are really no other options. Even when you are having a cordial exchange and all is going smooth, you get memes and bigotry tossed in by certain posters just to stir the pot. There is no way to talk rationally to these guys. I've been posting less in here because I'm sick of wasting my time. I really used to enjoy going back and forth with 40 (I really do like him) but he's lost his damn mind supporting Trump. Trump could nuke England and 40 would find a way to justify it. Then Diam would back it up with some nonsense math and Vambo would post a random meme that somehow makes everything Obama and Hillary's fault! smdh You add to that the incendiary posts by an handful of others with beliefs so far from the norms that it hurts your eyes to read them and well then you have this forum... a crap cocktail of the underbelly of politics. It's hard for me to be civil under those conditions. Like you said, "Gotta be true to oneself."

I just to stand in the middle and take my swings at both sides. Of course I don't hate anybody on either side and look forward to having a beer, diet coke, or long lunch with all the folks on here I have not had the pleasure of doing so with yet.

This is where you have a disconnect. They aren't being bullied and harrassed; they are being pushed back against for overstepping, lying and being disgusting people in general. That is not the America that I know, but if that's the approach you take then what can conservatives do? Just remember, what goes around comes around. Be careful of the behavior you wish to normalize. And people will come out to the polls.
I regret not voting now. I should have help my nose and gone. HRC was gawd awful too and I just couldn't go against my instincts with her. Always thought Trump had a slim chance and might surprise us, didn't think he would win that night, didn't have a clue how bad this was going to be. Don't beat yourself up over it. Had you voted for Clinton, Trump would have won Ohio 2,841,005 to 2,394,165 instead of 2,841,005 to 2,394,164. That and you wouldn't catch grief from people who have a distorted idea of how much a vote is worth.

I normally don't care for hostile political ads, but I have to give it to the GOP-- they nailed this one. (Might be considered NSFW although it is clean enough to make it to TV.) The Left in 2018: Unhinged https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFRHX6glTSM

I totally get, sometimes I want to engage but the posters who engage these topics particularly the ardent leftist are obnoxious to the point where even though I know they are intentionally trying to provoke me, I give in. I can't be engaging in this type of nonsense. I wouldn't tolerate someone speaking to me like that in public, why am i subjecting myself to it on this board?

Yes, it's all them.. everybody on the left was damn near Gandhi before.. If you try to be friendly, you get run over by a few posters on the right. You should try being moderate, both sides try to run over you.. it's like playing Frogger in here sometimes. If you try to bring up anything that makes Trump look bad, you get absurdity and nonsense in exchange. Maybe every time somebody disagreed with Obama they shouldn't have been called an irrational racist..... just a thought... As Haus mentioned, the behavior has become normalized and I'm not going to blame one side or the other.. and if/when the dems are in charge again, I fully expect the whole debate to spin 180 degrees...

Every one of our last ten Presidents have been liars. Not like a daily tidal wave GM, and you know that. There's never one in my lifetime who daily makes lying accusations and derogatory comments about the opposing party to support such hate and division among our people. You know all of that is true GM, you know it.

You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Put the unhinged left in the loony bin. Loony bin won't have them! That's where they came from... I would be happy if they were bound and gagged and dumped in Mexico with a note pinned to them stating that they are seeking asylum because America no longer wants them.
