Man, this sucks. The NBA has been hot for awhile now, but I don't see how this is good for the league. At least we'll be able to see the greatest basketball team ever assembled. This is interesting. I was watching a show or reading an article and there was a discussion that dynasties are good for a sport. That they create interest. I was thinking that I have a completely polar viewpoint. I enjoy parity. I enjoy not knowing who is going to win it each year. I despise dynasties and all the media hype that follows them. I wonder what most of you think? Do you prefer a dynasty type team in any given sport or do you like it when there are at least a few teams that have a legit shot to win it all? I much rather have parity and a chance that anyone can win it at any time...dynasties are boring and take away from the excitement for fans. Wheres the fun in going to a game when you know you're going to get blown out. Or dropping big money on a playoff game you know doesn't matter...Thats why the indians runs were so fun because they weren't supposed to be where they were because of the market, bball is a different deal because only 5 play at a time at both ends

Yep, we agree again. I hate dynasties. I love it when either team can win a game and when there are multiple teams who can win a Chip.

So, did the Cavs have the same exemption? Why couldn't they have kept LeBron and signed Boogie? It would require both Lebron and Boogie to want to play here.

Dwight Howard? LOL
I was actually hoping Superman would go to GS, because he might have been the only thing to stop the Warrior's dynasty.

What does everyone think the over/under is on Lonzo staying in LA...they just signed Rondo...i can't see lebron wanting to play with a marginal PG with off court drama that comes with his dad

So, did the Cavs have the same exemption? Why couldn't they have kept LeBron and signed Boogie? They did, but had to use half of it to sign Cedi Osman, so we could only offer a 2 million dollar contact. The Cavs are the worst ran organization in the NBA, Cleveland and possibly the world. The Cavs could never do this because they are morons.

Can't say he doesn't value winning above all

I mentioned earlier that I think they might trade him. I wonder if they could work something out w/Charlotte? Kemba and Batum for Ball and either a scrub or some draft pick. Charlotte wants to clear money, so perhaps it is possible. But again, I'm not a cap guy.

I wonder what most of you think? Do you prefer a dynasty type team in any given sport or do you like it when there are at least a few teams that have a legit shot to win it all? Dynasties are "good", only because it gets the casual "bandwagon" fan that otherwise wouldn't care for the sport, to tune in and watch a great team, and pretend they've been a fan all along. Sort of like how everyone tuned in to watch Tiger Woods or Lance Armstrong dominate their sports. And you also get the contrarians that tune in to see if someone can topple them. But I don't know, I think the "dynasty" has to be a little bit organic too. Who cares if a team just bent all the rules to stack a team and dominate everyone. It just cheapens everything.

I think kemba is in last year of the deal..Itd have to be a sweet deal to take on Batums contract knowing kemba could be gone and it cost you a draft pick..but there are rumors of kemba in LA

Solid points. I wasn't thinking of the casual fans. Perhaps they know that people like us who love the game will be there no matter what and they are trying to draw in new fans.
But be careful. I quit watching baseball years ago for a similar attitude. And I bet I'm not the only one.

Was it started when Lebron went to Miami to play with Wade and Bosh? What's with players thinking that hooking up with other all stars is a way to cement some 'legacy'? And, I know the owners of those few 'dynasty' teams are just as guilty. It just seems to have gotten worse recently, to my eyes. I know, LBJ went to the Lakers, a middling team at best. But just watch, they'll be signing other stars soon - just my guess. The NBA had a lot going for them......but, in MY opinion, they have caved to the teams that can/will spend the big money, salary cap be damned.

Dyansties are bad for sports if competitiveness is removed from the equation. Such is what is happening in the nba.

Well that could end the four year Cavilers-Warriors NBA Finals rivalry there.
At least James did not do that decision thing he did that now is infamous.

According to my recollection, I think it started w/LeBron, DWade, and Bosh planning to hook up. I think they were on the Dream Team together and concocted the idea. I think CP3 might have been part of that, too. But..........I'm not sure. Just a fuzzy recollection.
I remember that it turned me off and I quit watching the NBA for the most part when LeBron was in Miami. I'm not a fan of stuff like that and I think there are quite a few people who feel the same way.

I can't really blame the players too much for stacking the deck in their favor just to validate their career.

man not sure what Lakers are doing, but they let Randle go to sign Rondo, they have zero defense and zero shooting on that team...they could actually be worse this year. KCP, Rondo, Lance, McGee...that's a murders row of head cases with very little ability..throw in Lonzo and lebron might have to score 50 a game to stay competitive. Randle was really their only other consistent guy outside of Kuzma

Maybe they'll be interested in JR, since they appear to be loading up on headcases?

The only person I've ever seen say that is Bill Simmons whose identity revolves around being an obnoxious Boston fan. Of course he believes that the game is better for everyone when dynasties are involved. I think it's very stupid. I also think that competition rarely leads to a better product for a consumer. However, if I am looking for a silver lining it's that this team might be the only other basektball team that could give The Dream Team a run for their money.

Just that super talented players get this stigma of being a 'headcase' and are thus devalued on an open market. The Cavs were able to get JR Smith for free in the trade for Iman, because of that stigma. It's just hard to find work once players are branded as 'headcases', even extremely talented players like JR and Boogie.

I don't know, CHS. No doubt that Boogie has been a head case in the past, but the guy is a HUGE talent. He also did a much better job as a teammate in New Orleans before he got injured.
I find it hard to compare JR to Boogie.

I should probably preface that with, JR is one of my favorite Cavs, and I say that sort of tongue-in-cheek.
But what we're getting with JR Smith at $15 mil a year is not even in the same ballpark as getting what Boogie offers for $5mil a year.

I find it hard to compare JR to Boogie. JR is and has always been amazing. He's probably one of the guys who would've been most helped by today's 3 point game, instead of the game 10 years ago. It's funny that Boogie is suddenly a better teammate once he gets away from Vlade Divac who kept drafting stretch 4's and 5's with top 10 picks. There are no headcase players, just headcase organizations. The NBA coaching game is about managing players egos. That's why Phil Jackson gets so much love and why Tyron Lue can be such a horrendous coach without anyone blinking an eye.

Let's see if I got this straight:
Steph Curry Kevin Durant Klay Thompson Draymond Green Demarcus Cousins
That is sad.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Congrats to GSW on their 2018-19 NBA championship. Yawn.
Trade Love and anything else for future draft picks, tank for the next 2-3 years and begin rebuilding. It's the nature of the beast.
