So, what if he doesn't even make the Finals in LA? Is his legacy damaged? No.

It seems like the biggest thing he's gaining is the ability to film and record stuff DURING the season. It just seems like that's going to pull his attention away from playing basketball.

But the producers and directors are willing to work with him anywhere. Look at his TV producing career already. I predict that this is short-term and that he will return to CLE in 3-4 years to finish his career here. Whether it is three or four years is depending upon how long it takes us to get our salary cap in order and acquire viable talent.

So, what if he doesn't even make the Finals in LA? Is his legacy damaged? No. I made the joke awhile ago that he might be better off losing earlier in the playoffs. That way he wouldn't add to the record of being the guy that lost 6 finals out of 9. I mean nobody cares that Jordan missed the Finals 9 times or Kobe missed them 13 times. Lebron's only missed 6, but people only care about the losses once he got there.

The Bills went to four straight and lost them while the Browns have never been, which is worse? If you're using the pro-Jordan argument, it looks better to never have lost the biggest game (regarding the times Jordan lost early in the playoffs). If you're using the pro-Lebron argument, it's always better to make it to the last game, even if you lose. I guess I don't care anymore since he's not "our problem to defend" so to speak. Lebron is on the Mount Rushmore of NBA greats, I think that's all that matters.

So LA fans vandalized LBJ's mural there already huh?
Ouch... But, but, we were informed on this thread that LA has the best basketball fans... I'm not trying to be argumentative or defend LA basketball fans, but a few jackasses with spray paint don't represent the whole fanbase. I've heard quite a few Lakers fans be super happy about Lebron joining them (well, maybe they were happier earlier on because they assumed George and Leonard were right behind him too).

I currently live in LA. Everyone I know who is a basketball fan is a Laker fan. All of them are excited about LeBron coming. All of them. I am also happy although I am not a Laker. It'll be nice to bored, then remember, "Oh, the greatest player of all time is playing on channel 692, I can watch that." That was not something I was able to do recently with the Lakers. Don't mistake Kobe fans for Laker fans, they are not the same thing.

Whether it was one guy, a group or the entire city - his mural being vandalized and then the pending face lift to make him almost like "just another player" has got to weigh in on his mindset, even if the slightest.
We made him a true king, labeled him as such and etc. People may support him there in LA and I know many that do, but I don't think he'll ever be put on a pedestal like he was here in Laker land.
Then again, maybe the dude just don't care. I don't care lol...

People in LA don't care about LeBron.
They care now because they are relevant again and are playoff contenders.
If things go south, they will turn on him.

Lebron will always be considered a big fish as far as the NBA goes. Lebron will always be considered a minnow as far as Hollywood goes.
Why not build your legacy instead of making bad TV that nobody watches and nobody will remember.

I think a lot of posters are whining again.
I don't think LeBron's legacy will be damaged. He is pretty much cemented in as the second greatest player of all-time.
I also think there are more important things than what the fickle media and fans think of you. For example, I think your family's happiness is way more important. I think that quality of life is way more important. I think that opportunities to further your business opportunities are more important than what some dweeb in NE Ohio thinks about you.

I currently live in LA. Everyone I know who is a basketball fan is a Laker fan. All of them are excited about LeBron coming. All of them. While I'm not *in* LA, I'm close enough to smell it. Every Laker fan I know HATED Lebron as recently as 2 years ago. It wasn't until they got wind that he might come that they suddenly flipped a 180 and started bowing down to him. Of course they're excited he's there. Their team is relevant again. But I don't think for a second they'll excuse him if they get blown out in the second round by the Warriors/Houston. It'll be "Kobe would of done better". I"m not even sure they'll be all that thrilled if he breaks Kareem's all-time scoring record too.

He’s #2 all time ... interesting U think he’s better than MJ ... cause everyone knows the “Stilt” is #1 ... Gotta give it up for Lebron ... going right into the eye of the tiger ... would have been EASIER to go through the east ... he’s taking on a much bigger challenge going to the west ... The Lakers are not a finished product ... maybe for this year ... either way they’ll LOAD UP next year is my guess ... Plus he gets to work for Magic ... not sure how much play thats getting in this thread ... but to me that’s HUGE ...

I get that, and he has always said that his decision was about family, and winning .... but what if he doesn't win ..... or winds up even farther away from winning?
Lebron could place himself anywhere for his post basketball future. People come to him, he doesn't go to them.
So, what if he doesn't even make the Finals in LA? Is his legacy damaged? Do you mean this year or in the next four years? If the Lakers miss this year, it's hard to hold it against Lebron. He doesn't have a very good supporting cast right now and the Warriors... need I say more. However, if they don't make it the Finals for the next 4+ years, yes, that will damage his legacy some. He'll be an all-time great no matter what, but that isn't in dispute. It's GOAT or bust as far as far as legacy talk goes.

LOL at Wilt the Stilt. He truly was one of the greatest, but is older than most reporters. I watched Wilt when he was big and slow and played for the Lakers. Shot underhanded free throws. Strong as an ox.
However, I remember watching videos of him when he was at Kansas and he as skinny. Could dribble like a PG. Behind the back, inside handshake, crossing guys, etc. Amazing!
Bro, I'm not much into those ranking lists and legacy stories. Hard for me to compare guys from different eras.
Moving on..........I think you brought up a good point about playing w/Magic in control. I actually thought Magic was the best player I ever saw, but he tops no one's list. However, the dude is smart and competitive. He will do what it takes and LeBron's size and passing abilities bare more than just a passing resemblance to Magic.
I don't know if it will happen this year, but Magic ain't done. Believe that!
